It's been removed whilst the garage receives an upgrade, there will be a drive through coffee dock. It's not clear at this time whether the charger will be replaced. The planning permission does have 2 bays marked for EV charging, but the operator could be planning to install his own.
Sound Liam. IMO it would be far better if it was moved to another location around the city.
But then how will we get our entertainment waiting to hear if the picnic table is back 🤣
Lol as entertaining as it is, I’d rather not Liam ha ha. It’s a right PITA.
It’s disappeared off the eCars map, and I don’t think the other sites that were upgraded disappeared off the app while they were being upgraded!
that’s tells me eCars are shot of him, and perhaps he’s got someone else coming in (EasyGo?), or he’s going to vomit alone with his own AC charger….. the method being if the people are there for many hours…. They’ll spend a lot more in his shop!
He is unstable.
Yeah as fun is it to laugh at him from a distance, it's a lot less fun when someone is dependent on that charger
Maybe Ecars should just install a plywood box that looks like a charger so he can fence it off and feel good about himself
Or maybe they'll do the castlbellingham trick and have a "coming soon" sign there forever
Thanks, I should get on top of paying that mortgage off 😁
Anyone use the podpoint chargers in dundrum shopping centre recently?
I've used them twice in the past week and both times they've stopped charging after gaining around 1%.
Not sure if it's a problem with the car or the chargers.
I haven't but saw a comment on plugshare that payment is required. Checked on the pod point app is 30c /kWh.
No they are definitely free. Charger states that you just plug in and it will start charging. They are only 5kw but better than nothing.
I think you need to acknowledge that you're charging in the app within 15 minutes of plugging in.
You certainly didn’t have to do that in the past even though the sign on the unit said that you did.
They've change it few weeks ago. The chargers are now in podpoint app and the price appears on the top.
Few better feelings that finding an unexpected charger that's not on any maps.
Stopped at a random kitchen & interior store today, found this waiting for me. Nicely marked spaces and all.
31c/kWh and oddly has a MAX (not minimum) charge of €5.68.
We ended up having a bite in the cafe and stayed over 2 hours so good value.
Added on Plugshare and Zapmap.
Happened me too last week. Only used these as the charging was free and the parking was perfect. That just about compensated for having to take the cable out of my car. Not any longer the case, so I won't be bothered using them any more.
What rate did that ChargePoint charge you car at?
11kW. I was pleasantly surprised.
30c/kW seems pretty steep for a 7kW charger!
I wonder how much the market has been distorted by eCars. The 22kW chargers in the same centre are about the same price but I guess most cars won’t be able to benefit from them.
"The report also highlights that the European Commission aims to have 30 million EVs on the road by 2030 and estimates that three million public chargers will be needed to support them.
By the same measure, Ireland would need 100,000 public chargers, with all new being fast chargers to serve the proposed one million EVs here by the same date.
There are currently 1,900 chargers installed at 800 sites across the island of Ireland. But with the current number of 47,000 EVs on roads here the number of charging points falls far short of the 4,700 realistically needed to serve these."

3 guesses as to who said this;
"We need to deal with the legacy fleet, a fleet that continues to age due to the low levels of new car sales. We need to support all motorists to trade up to newer less polluting cars," he said.

Ha, well he's not wrong to be fair
I read a report a while ago that there was something like double the number of cars sold before 2007 versus afterwards (I wonder why 😏)
Those cars are getting to the point where they're going to be replaced, but because there aren't newer used cars to replace them that's part of the reason that used car prices are so high at the moment
So unfortunately those cars will be kept going instead of being replaced, and costing their owners a fortune in repair costs
I wonder what would happen if the government rolled out a €5k scrappage scheme for older cars, but only for an EV that costs under €30k before any grants?
Then you'd have your sub €20k new EV pretty quickly, and I bet a bunch of manufacturers would jump in with more basic spec models to avail of the grant
Problem is of course, the scheme would be so popular the government would run out of money instantly and there'd be a 5 year backlog on orders
Nobody will benefit. People will plug in and walk, no payment and no charge. I've never got more than 5.4 kW on those sockets. The current drops with the number of cars connected.
EVs already have a 5000 grant ? or up to it.
People might be tempted if cheap enough, but reading this thread https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058234198/tesla-model-3-motorway-driving-thoughts#latest , one of the best EVs costing 50 k cannot complete a trip from one side of the country and back without a stop, before you start, talking about money saving or only a trip 2 times a year, a 20 k EV is going to have no hope with less of a trip, some one sticking 15 or 20 euro a week in a car for local driving and then 40 or 50 euro for a trip limerick from to Dublin and back, at the drop of a hat without any hassle will not be incentivised enough just to save a grand a year on fuel with a lot more possible inconvenience.
If I tried to drive from one side of the country and back without stopping I'd be after wetting myself and be fit to murder someone because I'd be hungry.
You'll probably average a speed of 100km/h on that journey and you'd be looking at 4-4.5 hours without stopping. No thanks.
The issue really is that there should be enough chargers where people naturally want to stop on long journeys and also at all of the tourist destinations. I suggest that every hotel/guesthouse for example should have a suitable number of chargers available.
I can't remember many times that I have driven from East coast to West coast and then turned 180 degrees for an immediate return back home. But I have had plenty of trips where there would have been days to charge at destination but no charging available.
Practically no one does what you said( with the exception of sh1722), a normal person would like to get to there destination, airport, zoo, business meeting etc, then go to a bathroom, then drive home, a mac whopper is not something I would honestly care for, making up excuses to stop for a charge works for some I suppose,
