Imagine if Russia created a military alliance of nations and signed up Columbia, Venezuela and tried to lobby Mexico too? It would be an unprecedented violation of trust between US and Russia. This is essentially no different except you are anti-Russia so feel it's ok.

I'm not anti Russian though. I don't like dictators invading weaker countries. NATO is a defensive alliance and countries in eastern Europe wanted to join it because they are afraid of Russia.

Unfortunately Ukraine us so corrupt that I don't think it could join the EU in the foreseeable future. I can see what Ukraine would get from joining NATO, but that would just cause a headache for NATO. They already have members on Russian border, they hardly want another one, unless they do want a war.

Putin hasn't secured any political concessions, his diplomatic strategy is failing (I'd argue it's designed to fail judging by some of the outlandish guarantees being sought).
If his diplomatic strategy fails then he either **** or gets off the pot. He either has the option to undertake military action to achieve his aims, or is faced into a humiliating down climb which arguably could be the beginning of the end of his leadership. Which is perhaps the most worrying aspect of all of this, because he will do anything to cling on to power.

Its very useful for situational awareness, and is good at stating when something has been misinformation.

I think it is actually based in Ukraine (or used to be), Id assume the info is legit in that case.

We all knew that was lies, you only have to look at the pro Russian supporters on here to know the level of blatant lying they will go to.
Putin has nothing to gain by invading and a lot to lose. NATO would start with sanctions and will only go to war under the most extreme conditions. But there's not going to be an invasion - not unless there is some uber plan going on that we don't know about. It could turn out to be another Afghanistan for Russia if it invades. I doubt that Russia can afford this hugely expensive operation for months on end. They'll have to show their hand soon.
