No, the opposite. My radio is on all day at home, not so much when I'm in the office. Today's figures are from May to December, when most people were WFH. Pretty much every station has an increase in listenership over that period as a result. I'd expect a drop when they release figures from this quarter.
Not a very warm welcome for Ray Foley from Ian this morning, he suggested it'll be same as the old show and asked would he bring in Muireann O' Connell to replace Ann.
Oh really? I didn't realise Ian and Ray had any beef. That's odd.
Quick enough introduction from Dermot too.
I was listening to it and didn't get that impression at all. They were chatting away and asked what features would be coming back, Foley had mentioned before himself and Ian always got on well. They also took the piss out of the playlist briefly.
Oh that seems different to what Dannyman above implied.
They have the listen back up on the app now anyways. About 20 mins before the end of Ian's show he's on.
It was professional, he wasn't singing his praises or wishing him good luck like when Anton Savage got his morning show
I agree. I thought it sounded like it was something he had to do- there didn't appear to be any sincerity behind it.
Ian stays fairly neutral in these situations with other Today FM shows and tends not to show any favouritism...does not get over excited.
Heard the Iano segment myself. It all sounded quite friendly to me!
Which is how it should be. It’s why even if the format was becoming a bit tired, in the very rare times I’ve listened to todayfm in the past few years it’s mostly been in the morning and Ian’s show because he’s an old school radio DJ and doesn’t try to been all things to all people. The issue is there is actually good talented radio presenters on today fm, but when previously commincorp tried to get them to be something they weren’t it didn’t work and was unfair to many of the presenters.
hopefully ray being back on today fm will make me not hate the station anymore.
Yeah I listened back and it sounds more than professional, sounded friendly and like they got on.
With the return of Ray Foley, I was just thinking of those who left Today FM and came back again.
I know Alison Curtis left Today FM for Phantom and came back to Today FM twice- Phantom as a pirate first and then later when fully licensed!
is there any more or is that it? Maybe consider people behind the scenes as well as presenters.
I heard Ian pissed in Rays coffee and then later on stone cold stunner'd him.
I thought it was fine too
I recall Enda Caldwell left the Saturday night planet hits show to go work in England but returned a year or two later to host a Friday night 90s show. Also Marty Millier returned as a fill-in presenter around 2008-2009 after having left the station in 2002 to join the newly launched Spin 1038. Nails Mahoney was a regular fill-in DJ during the final weeks of radio Ireland but returned in 2008 under his then name Brian MCColl to host Friday night 80s for the summer
Some people complain about Dermot and Dave laughing too much at what the other says, but at least they laugh. One of Ray and JP (the latter I think) was constantly doing some sort of asthmatic wheeze at whatever Ray said. Hopefully the show will grow on me.
I never understood the appeal of Foley the first time around. Just a mid-40s man-child clowning around, to my ear.
Listening to Paula McSweeney this evening. Her music choices seem to be hers, or at least not the same daytime playlist used by Pamela Blake when she was in the slot? I've heard Blondie, Eurhythmics, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, and a few other rockier acts than you'd normally expect in the slot since Ed vacated it. (Admittedly she's now playing Vengaboys, but hey...)
noticed this too.... its not often you hear Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken glass" on Today FM, certainly not since Ed was bumped to the late shift.
Dermot and Dave starting the show with Janet Jackson followed by Freak Power. I don't know who has gotten a hold of the playlist this week but keep it coming.
Ian Dempsey played Pumpin on your Stereo by Supergrass yesterday at about 8.30. I nearly crashed the car with the shock.
Matt sounded very pissed off just now having to do the cash machine promotion. Can't blame him
Not really a fan of Ray's nowadays but there's some variety in his playlist. Hopefully it's a part of his contract
According to his interview with Sunday business post he only agreed to comeback if he could have some say on his playlist for the show.
Well that's good news - hopefully the bosses thought it'd be worth trying on the other shows, resulting in the general better variety the last couple of days!
Matt sounds disinterested most of the time now. I'd say his heart is gone from it.
He just recorded his highest listnership in 10 years so not too sure about that.
Ian Dempsey played some Franz Ferdinand this morning.
