it's probably "coming later this year" like it was all of last year....
I had an eir sim in an unlocked android not sourced from Eir a while back.. WiFi calling worked immediately.
What do you mean flashed by eir's firmware? Firmware for what?
Some handset vendors have different firmware for different carriers. In the past, this was mainly used for branding purposes and didn't impact on core services such as phone calls. However, in Android, WiFi calling settings (server address etc) must be hard-coded in firmware for each carrier. Handset vendors do not necessarily include all carriers WiFi calling settings in every release of firmware. Some handset vendors may only include the settings for a specific carrier if the carrier sells some of their handsets. In this case you will need to flash the eir version of firmware into the handset. Other handset vendors may include the settings in all firmware. If your handset was not purchased from eir and WiFi calling worked, your handset must already have the settings. You are lucky. Which brand of handset do you have?
Surely it's just a pulled down carrier setting! Why would every cell network carrier settings in the world be hard programmed into a device..
Either way, mine is a POCO X3
Good to know that Xiaomi are including WiFi calling settings in their firmware. Unfortunately, not all handset manufacturers are as enlightened as this. I agree that it would seem to be logical for handsets to pull down these carrier settings dynamically, but it is not the case. Samsung in particular, appear to have maintained unique handset firmware for different carriers, and since they are the largest handset vendor, that has caused a lot of grief for users who migrate from one network to another. The problem is resolved if you flash the version of software for your carrier, providing it is available from your handset vendor. Users also report problems with Google Pixel phones not working for WiFi Calling.
Just to be clear - if you set your POCO X3 into airplane mode, and then turn on WiFi you can make regular phone calls via the Phone app?
I was able to yes. But I'm on gomo now. When I changed the SIM, the ability to WiFi call disappeared.
I'll add, the quality was rubbish each time I used it.. so I wasn't too upset to lose it.
Ok, so maybe Samsung etc do additional testing with each Carrier before releasing their firmware with WiFi calling included? I have never had any quality issues with WiFi Calling on Samsung.
Still no word from GoMo on WiFi calling for iPhones for people who are on the €9.99 plans like me? Is anyone who is on a €9.99 plan able to get 5G with iPhone 12 Pro Max for example?
Thanks,
M
Working fine on my wife's iPhone XR since the weekend, as is VoLTE, €9.99 plan signed up in the first days of their launch. In case it makes any difference, make sure you're on the latest iOS 15.3.1 and carrier file 49.0.
5G is not nor was it ever hinted to be officially available on GoMo, unlike WiFi Calling and VoLTE, so I wouldn't hold out any expectations it will be available any time soon.
NOT working on iPhone 11 with iOS 15.3.1 and Eir 49.0 carrier bundle. Did you do anything extra, like chatting to support to have these services activated?
No contact with support.
Are you getting the message to contact Eir when you try to activate Wifi calling?
Yes, I’m getting it.
Not sure so. She would have ordered within days of GoMo launching so would have been amongst the first orders.
Seemingly GoMo's online account portal and their shop show a maintenance page since the weekend, possibly related?
Seems not related, customer service chat said "IT Systems related issues"...
I am getting that exact message as well! Upgraded to the latest version of iOS last night. Where do I check Eir 49.0 carrier bundle?
Thanks
Bizarre! They must be doing it in batches, her dad with an iPhone 6S can't activate WiFi Calling and toggling VoLTE on makes no difference as calls still over to 3G, although he's on the €12.99 plan.
Settings - General - About - Network Provider will tell you your carrier version.
iPhone 11 Pro, unlocked & bought direct from apple.
Latest iOS
€9.99 plan
When I try to enable it, it says to contact Eir
Working for me and wife on 9.99 plan too.
Both Samsung phones.
I get the same message iPhone 12 Pro Max and I am on the €9.99 plan. Says Eir 49.0 when I look in Network settings.
Curious - how do you know if your call is being routed over WiFi on a Samsung phone? I've enabled WiFi calling and VoLTE on my wife's phone but calls are still dropping to H during the call and if I switch Airplane mode on and then turn on WiFi, it won't place the call. I take it the new features haven't been activated yet for her account? She and I are both on the 9.99 plan.
yes the user can't enable it.
the MNO does.
I'm going to send a message to Eir to say that some €9.99 customers are getting it so can I please have it!
Thanks for that!
This has just appeared for me today on Gomo 9.99, Samsung A50
What changed exactly that you realised WiFi calling was enabled?
you'll know if when you're on a voice call that your data service doesn't drop from LTE / 4G down to 3G while on the call
A telephone with WiFi icon and SIM slot number in the notification bar. If I switch off WiFi calling it turns to a VoLTE icon
Anyone else now have it who has an iPhone and is on the €9.99 GoMo package.
What exactly is the benefit of WiFi calling considering the free calls and data GoMo offer? Is purely for times when you are in a bad cellular signal area?
