FG will attack FF for its willingness to go into government with SF. FF will attack FG for not wanting to talk about anything other than FF's willingness to go into government with SF.
Wasn't I said it blanch, it was Leo Varadkar I think.
I am asking will we here this kind of thing again..the sham fight between the two power swap parties.
Who in FG is clever enough to stop the rot?
2011 = 76 seats
2016 = 50 seats
2020 = 35 seats
2021 = Lost 'safe' seat in Dublin Bay South
You gave it as an example of credible debate, of the parties campaigning against each other with credibility.
So now it is a sham fight, make up your mind.
The Delaney remark was made by the leader of FG in a leaders debate. Your pedantry won't change that it was used and therefore more than credible but actually used political discourse.
The bar is that low. We might get a few movie quotes as well.
They obviously won't say that on campaign. Anyone with the slightest interest in politics shouldn't need to be told that.
Yer man Watt has some notion of himself
Well if you say something like that in a debate and then a wet week later you are sitting in government with the person you likened to John Delaney....who has no credibility? Me, who just quoted the line or Leo, who actually said it?
But that's how the game is played Francie in countries where there are no fixed alliances between parties but deals have to be done between them to form a government. You absolutely slaughter the other guy in debates and interviews but as long as you don't actually say "I will not go into government with him" then the voters understand that that option is still open. Varadkar stayed the right side of that line but Martin crossed it, explicitly ruling out coalition with both FG and SF, which left him in an impossible position after the election.
So Leo retains credibility but Martin loses his?
Roisin Shortall (SD) correct in saying Slaintecare has stalled.
Dublin Council tried to make it so all new build to rent estates with above 100 homes had 40% available for individuals to purchase. But they got blocked by the planing regulator saying there wasn't enough evidence to support it.
Here we are told the councils are in charge of housing policy.
The John Delaney remark is disngenuous but in the same league as Martin ruling out coalition with FG. Especially when Varadkar also said this
'Disingenuous'?
Both of them lied through their teeth to the electorate. Call a spade a spade.
As Pat Rabbitt said "It's what you do to win elections."
There has to be a number of genuine FF or FG members who have a bad taste in their mouth dealing with each other. Nearly half the greens did anyway.
You can be sure those cages will be rattled during the election campaign...should be fun. Unique times.
In general terms they are and are left to it but the MoE can step in if they are paying silly buggers. It is rarely used but Gormley stopped Monaghan CC from zoning for a potential population increase of 182% over a six-year period way back in 2007 and it happened with Cork CC last year over a retail plan but they appealed against it and won. That new OPR office has powers to intervene and also to provide recommendations to the Minister.
Record number of people with jobs, the government must be doing something right.
Certainly didn't expect to see 150k more in employment now than 2 years ago, given everything that has gone on.
Great news.
Really shows up the people who blame everything on the minority alledgedly 'choosing not to work' on welfare. As opposed to the workers depending on welfare.
€200 a year will allow you to read that and that's a saving of €100 a year or an introductory €5 for the first month. The site only gives up one paragraph free.
Would you go away with your positive news stories. We can’t be having that. Da Gubberment shouldn’t be shown in a good light.
Given the complete lack of comment on the article 5 hours post release, I can only assume either nobody has access to read it or else it's not as juicy as people were hoping? Anybody have it?
The only 3 retweets of the currency's tweet linking to the article are 3 journalists for the currency.
I am hearing good things about this Currency news media in terms of good independent journalism. Has anyone experience of it?
“Has anyone experience of it?” No. Who are they?
Voices - The Currency : The Currency
Many contributors.
I have access but haven't read it yet
Strangely when the Currency first reported this story the only people on this thread shouting about potential for "scandal" and asking what the big deal was were the government supporters (I believe it's called trying to get your retaliation in first)
As it's a story related to the government (and a very large public expense) this is surely the thread to post into? Though when's the last time the government cared about cost (apart from HEPA filters in schools)
A bit pricey at €200 a year. They should have made it free to read for the first year or so. De Examiner is better value with recognised and trusted contributors for half the price.
