It has been up previously. Same photos too. If I remember right it was €1.2m about 4 years ago.
Not my taste but I would be quite happy to stay in a hotel like that, in fact I have. To certain extent it is a destruction of the original style of the house but you can't live in the past all the time. Some very good attention to detail
Was on sale for 2 million a year ago
Ouch!
It's a gorgeous house, very well finished when you look beyond the endless grey which wouldn't be to my taste.
But that's an easy fix. What isn't an easy fix and what is preventing me from buying this house is the lack of a garden.

This is huge money for what is basically a site .. a few similar sites near enough for €100,000 . I pass that house a few times a month and it’s basically right on the busy road and I know planning was an issue before when it went for sale because of its proximity to the barrow which can flood .. crazy money
Jesus that is mad money for a derelict house! I need my anti-depressants after looking at it!
Most of the windows have no curtains or blinds. Street light coming in would annoy me. Not to mention at night everyone can look in.
Throw out most of the soft furnishings and ornaments and it'd be nice enough. Tis a bit gaudy with all that sh1te in it.
It doesnt look like its been lived in for quite a while - wonder did the owners have to leave because of flooding.
Is that the house where he kicked it ?
No, he’d left by then. Wasn’t he living in the 4 Seasons Hotel at the time of his death?
No, in an apartment on Leeson Street if I remember correctly.
If you can afford the asking price of €1.595m, you can afford to fit curtains/blinds.
They have curtain poles above them, they probably took the curtains down for the photos.

Would it flood that high? There are steps down to the barrow across the road so I assumed it was fairly high above the river.
Not only the proximity to the Barrow but it does not have any vehicle road access - there is no way you would get pp for access on that junction and the adjacent house owns the land where that potential side access appears to be - there isn't even any right of way for the house behind that has to go through that space - or at least none shown on Land Direct, which admittedly is a bit behind in updating.
https://www.daft.ie/for-sale/bungalow-crann-nua-portarlington-co-laois/3613778 - I can't imagine any conversion making this a place you'd want to live.
Regarding vehicle access, is there not an overgrown gateway beside the traffic light? Below is from the streetview of it. It looks like it hasn't been opened in years but it looks like it is there. I can't tell if it's a small pedestrian gateway or one big enough for a vehicle.
Picture 4 shows the driveway into the house. It is just toe the right of the house in picture 9
They have in built shutters as it is a Georgian house. Have you never been in such a house?
It was auto erotic asphyxiation wasnt it?
Laois? Yeah I agree.
See I think at some stage that was two different sites and that gateway is not the original gateway plus it’s in the middle of a junction with traffic lights. Maybe planning might be possible for someone with deep pockets. This house was originally a cottage with no vehicle entrance. A money pit
Would planning be necessary if that gateway was on an old ordinance survey map somewhere? Anyway, it's way overpriced for a site on a flood plain.
Probably not originally but now with the placement of the traffic lights I honestly don’t know what way that would work.
I agree. I think the owner thinks it worth more because he hired a digger to go in and clear all the briars and grass.
https://www.daft.ie/for-sale/apartment-apartment-2-marydale-the-dale-drogheda-co-louth/3712935 - Why can't more apartments be like this? OK it's got some issues but this is eminently more liveable than the bland boxes which have been thrown up and cost the same. By no means am I saying it's a perfect apartment, it lacks storage, the food prep area is too small and the location of the washing machine/fridge would annoy me but I'd take it any day over the standard boxes.
It's amazing how quick a place can become over grown though once neglected and there's no traffic in or out. Was probably only vacant a couple of years in first pic. Sand bag at the door so must have been flooded or close to it at some stage.
Growth in this country is so fast. In the 4-5 months from when I first viewed my rural cottage, at which time the gardens were meticulously maintained, the shrubs and bushes had grown so much I had to get in a team of professionals to clear it out. Couldn’t believe how fast it got out of control
