There's a thread in the IoT forum but it's very quiet these days, there might be more traffic here...

How bright are those smart bulbs in Dealz?
We have some Phillips hue bulbs, in terms of brightness they are very poor. Looking for bright smart lights for the kitchen.
Got some of these too for a friends house, work well, and do variable shades of white colour and brightness via the app. Haven’t tried them on Alexa but I’m sure they’d be as straightforward as the plugs.
Did not know Dealz have different pricing for different locations I got this at 6 euro in Fonthill Dealz. Same cost for the smart plug.
Great stuff, thanks for the advice, I appreciate it, I'll post over there, looks like a knowledgeable bunch!
Thanks again!

probably best to keep this thread strictly for bargains and go to Home Automation & Internet of Things (IOT) Forum for tech advice and info? There's such choice and the tech is so new that this thread could easily get clogged up with how to posts...
Can anyone recommend what smart thermostat to go with and how installation would work? I know there was a provider that was doing a combo gas boiler service/Nest installation package before but it doesn't seem to be knocking about any more, I'd be interested in something similar in terms of a service/smart home installation that works with Google/Alexa
Seems Dealz have smart bulbs too...
Great idea for a thread OP

Yeah, toasters are the same idea too.
If anyone bought this in store today check your receipt, I was charged €99, got a refund of the difference.
I didn't realise that, good to know.
I thought most kettles allowed you, ours does. But maybe newer ones have that as a safety feature.
Yeah but the home automation thread doesn't seem to have a lot of traffic these days, hence I created this one.
"With the new version there's a dedicated button for toggling through preset scenes, which we found very useful."
Note you can do that with the v1 switches too, you just keep pressing that On button for it to switch between the four default white scenes. Of course you can program the buttons to switch to any scenes you'd like via the apps.
Yeah they work off an app and you can set up timers for each plug on the app or put them into groups.
It also integrates with Alexa.
there is a small on/off button on the side too.
the kettle thing wouldnt work for most modern kettles as they have an electromagnet on the switch which doesn’t let the button be in the on position unless it’s powered up.
Yeah, they're just offloading the last generation switches. If you've already invested in Hue switches, and just need one or two more, I'd go with these. If you're starting out I'd recommend getting the new Hue switches. With the new version there's a dedicated button for toggling through preset scenes, which we found very useful.
Just an FYI - theres a long standing bargain thread in the Home Automation neck of the Boards woods.
Also, Hue dimmers seem to be sold out in most Argos as they are being phased out for their new dimmer model.
I take it they work without a hub? Do they have a physical button on them too. For older folks in my life (parents and in laws), I tell them to just leave the switch on the lamp turned on and use the button on the smart plug. Then the other adults in the house can use the smart feature if the house is empty.
I see they're rated for 13amp too. Using one on my kettle seemed like such a lazy option (and it is) but it's great. Fill the kettle, push the button down and then sit down to have dinner and watch a bit of tv, then turn the kettle on without having to move 😁
Hue dimmer switches at 13.99. in Argos
Great valentines pressie for the woman in your life. 😋
