Exactly, Dr Mannix Road is a good secondary route and should be done in addition to the safe segregated coastal route.
I asked for details on that route proposal if it so serve as a primary route and was deflected to "put it on the flood defenses".
We love talking about Salthill here ha ha, but it already has some of the best cycling stat's in the City, but it could greatly improved upon. Most of the suburban area of it was designed pre 1980 so has decent enough permability The blackspot for cycling in Salthill now is the Prom and the Village itself.
If he's to be consistent I presume he is now going to call for the boycott of all of these businesses too now that Galway Racecourse has also launched a judicial review.
After all, these are the actual sponsors Galway Racecourse lists on its site, so they've got a much more direct connection to that judicial review than the people who walk or travel by bicycle in Galway have with the other judicial review taken by some group most people have never even heard of.
I'm all for cycle infrastructure and public transport but those cities are not in the slightest bit comparable.
I remember seeing a naked cycling protest pass by me in Paris - it would generate some headlines if it was tried here...
I wonder if there will be more
Jaysus, don't give them ideas!!!
Dr Mannix should be the primary... I don't think you are getting how upset the other side is getting and how much they are becoming anti cycling over this...
If the intention is to alienate a larger part of the public and the councillors with them for a under used cycle lane then this is very successful but remember there will be people passing that lane empty on any bad weather day and the backlash will cause a very negative reaction to all other cycling proposals...
This will also mean the prom will never get expanded to include both set of users..
Your hearts maybe in the right place but you know little about the politics of getting things done...
If you were really thinking you could be looking at getting a cycle lane down Kingston Road (Threadneedle to Joyces) permanently for a little more money... This could be the back bone of a integrated cycle network all the way through Knocknacarra... Good luck with that if you put a one way in front of the Golf Club, they will be in no mood to help cyclists...
Where are you coming from... Black spot is the schools...
They are going to build a Super School site over the next decade and there isn't a cycle lane 800 meters... But the cycling lobby want to have lanes on the prom and shift the walkers off the prom...
Sorry this doesn't look like a pro cycling just we want a chunk of the Prom and we are going to politically lobby and bully until we get it...
Maybe you should come along to this to chat to some of the folks there
THIS VIDEO
That video is fantastic, really shows how far we've come and how much further we could take the city. Really well done to the folks who made that
Motion to kill the bike lane trial put forward
RTE news : Proposal over Salthill cycle lane to be considered
What's the point of the public consultation and 7500 people taking time to submit their feedback if 14 councillors are going to move to reject the whole project before they've even seen the consultation report??
I'll never tire of seeing that proposed setup for Salthill village - it looks absolutely class. I wish they'd hurry up with it.
Councillor Peter Keane giving an explanation here anyway, he proposed it.
City Council to consider motion to revoke plans for Salthill cycleway

I started listening and turned it off after about 90 seconds. Just makes me sick the flip flopping. This pretty much sums up the antics of our councillors
They are cowards, afraid to even trial something, and the majority of the county councillors who also recently voted to not even allow the quiet man greenway be considered on the next county development plan, are just as bad!
Their antics getting called out in todays Advertiser
In other news, paths and bike lanes from Oranmore center to the Oranmore train station are about to get underway (in red below)
The next park of this will be to provide infrastructure from the train station to the Dublin Rd (in orange below), where it will connect to the new infrastructure being added as part of the bus connects program (in blue below). That in turn, connects to the Cross City Link (in purple below).
Once thats done, it will be possible to go from Oranmore village all the way into UCHG on dedicated, safe bike lanes and foot paths.
A network SLOWLY starts to take shape
delighted, wrong place to put it anyways.
Focus should be on roads where there are schools. that's where the million should be spent in full.
Not sure about that, those safe bike paths on the Dublin Road are just part of the Busconnects Cross City. Many sections of it is just in a bus lane. Might be better waiting on the Galway Dublin Greenway that is meant to going through here nearer the coast.
The Executive really got one over them here. They have outplayed them politically.
Executive never wanted to do it, so gave them a choice they knew would be rejected.
That's why only 2 Options. Very cynical. They have made the Cllrs look like very foolish now.
Our local Gov setup here is so amateur in so many ways.
Really? I know there's a lot of on road painted crap near the junctions, but I recall it looking a lot like the SQR setup. Maybe I read it wrong.
A local mum gives her thoughts on the Salthill bike lanes in a piece in thejournal.ie. A very well written piece

A response from Irish Doctors For The Environment to the proposal to kill the bike lane trial in Salthill
That's also what I heard from someone who talked to one of the councilors. A lot of quite petty, political back-biting. Councilors who voted for it originally didn't know what exactly was planned for the cycleway and have been turned by the negative feedback they've received.
I really suspect the main obstacle to acceptance of the plans was the inclusion of the one-way section at Knocknacarra - cutting off one of the few routes for westbound motor traffic was inviting opposition.
So councilors listened to the public, and changed their minds based on what the people were saying/asking for?
Seems like thats the way it should happen. Well done everyone
Now, if the people who want a cycle lane are smart, they have a fantastic opportunity.
What needs to happen, is a realistic cycle lane needs to be demanded. Not one that closes off one of the most popular, natural, free amenities in Galway to everyone from outside of Salthill.
The cycle group need to take this opportunity, and really understand, what they want.
Is it a well connected cycle infrastructure that takes in schools, residential areas and places of work?
Or is it a scenic cycle lane that takes in views and places of interest?
The cycle group have a lot of support out there, and a council that will help them with the right plan.
It just seems that a cycle lane along the prom is the wrong place for too many people
"The cycle group have a lot of support out there, and a council that will help them with the right plan."
These plans didn't come from any cycle groups, it was created by the council with zero consultation or discussion.
The purpose of the consultation was to select the preferred of 2 designs. The cycle groups recommend Option 2 as the better of these but lots of amendments needed.
So now the cycle group should propose a better plan
