I just don't get why they're not going lower, waist to knees. It was frustrating watching the upper body tackles on McCloskey - he's too strong and just wades through them. I think it's an area where our backs need to do some work. Get Marmion to teach them, he tackled like a lion this evening.
Connacht were never winning that game with the officials. Joy Neville will be happy enough as a Munster fan tonight because that pretty much finishes the challenge from Connacht.
World rugby are trying to outlaw these hits. The opposition coach has to be aware that there risks in tackling Lowry or any smaller player. I can almost guarantee that Connacht coach didn’t make any issue of this before match. But coaches absolutely must make sure their players aware of this. Once this gets established in the mindset of everyone, these incidences won’t happen and game will be safer for all.
Absolutely nonsense, as a neutral, that was as comfortable as win as you will see. Of course there were a couple of debatable penalties, but Ulster by far the better team. They dominated territory and possession of the ball. The only thing up for debate was whether Ulster would get 4 or 5. Connacht actually converted the few times they were in Ulster 22, but they never had enough possession in the right areas to really pressure Ulster.
Actually, I'm not down on Tuimauga (nor did i mention him). I just think Bealham, then Heff and Delahunt are several notches above the rest. Burke has made a lot of progress this year. The others have not really impressed, although it hasn't been for lack of honesty or effort.
There's still plenty left in this painful season, so we'll get to sift further for diamonds, but come the summer it will be time to behave like a professional outfit and cut those who aren't going to make it.
Don't be ridiculous. Munster fans wanted Connacht to take points from Ulster last night. We certainly didn't want Ulster to get a TBP, And all Irish rugby fans would prefer to see Connacht in the Heineken Cup next year
I can't believe people are still taking this jimdemp guy at face value and replying on that basis.
Cop on lads.
This really is one eyed viewing. Connacht were well beaten and the margin tells the story. Blaming the TMO is a distraction from the obvious gap between the 2 teams on the night.
It was a mirror image of the reverse fixture at the Aviva except that time it was Connacht who were much superior.
Telling how comfortable Bealham looked at scrumtime today with some power behind him in the row. We haven't really replaced roux yet, Fifita hasn't shown much yet
Why wasnt the late hit on porches head highlighted? why wasnt the blocking of Oliver in the first try looked at looked at? she has a history of screwing Connacht. Everyone on Twitter were saying the officals screwed Connacht in the first half. Why cant they just take a look?
I think Connacht should have Forde as back up to Carty from now on.
The discussion on Lowery's height is ridiculous, the rules don't reference height. Hit him below the neck and wrap your arms and you won't get carded.
Sorry I know I asked a while ago but just wondering any update since when the exact date and time the heinikin cup games be on? Or will be another while before this is decided.
Thanks guys
Will be another few weeks i guess. No 6 nations after next weekend for 2 weeks so might be lucky and will be some time in that period but hard to know for sure
Thanks for reply Guys, should be a cracking games and good weekends. Cant wait until times and dates confirmed so can sort accommodation for both games.
It seems unlikely that IRFU would host a game in the Aviva and then push for it to be at the worst possible time for getting people in the gates?
The reality is that this fixture is of very low interest to the TV companies. They will dictate when it’s on. Wouldn’t be surprised if both are 1pm on Saturday kick offs.
Times confirmed. Home Game Friday 8th April 8pm
Second Game Aviva Friday 15th April 5.30
Would usually get the train to the games that 8 pm kick off is a pain on the 8th
Great time for the games, really looking forward to it now. thanks guys
Worst possible times for me personally but I'm sure enough of ye will make the sportsground on the Friday 😆
You are living in a different reality. They will be Kicking off the knock out stages of Euro with a stand alone fixture
I wonder should Connacht have put out a B side against Stade and focused all the energy on the 2 URC games.
Well I doubt they pushed for that time. Complete waste of time effort and atmosphere to hold it in the Aviva.
5.30pm on a Friday. Unbelievable. I know the TV companys call the tune (Screw the fans) but I'd be trying desperately to move it to the RDS.
It's Good Friday though which means some people have that day off and no schools so more manageable than a normal Friday.
Still not a great kick off time.
I'll be honest no-one I know locally as it as a holiday.
Does anyone know if Mack did any place kicking as a pro/u20 in Australia?
I remember when he signed it mentioned him playing 10, 15 and wing. I don't recall anything about place kicking but as a 10 he surely has at some stage.
yes he did
he kicked a winning pen for the brumbies against the Reds in Super Rugby AU last season

Yes, thanks, I remember watching the vid below when he signed, he won it with the last kick of the game. That season he came off the bench twice to play outhalf (against the Rebels and the Reds):
