Order just arrived. Value was about €170 but I think that's irrelevant. Revenue check a random selection of stuff as far as I know.
The packaging gave nothing away. The sender was a German address and the item description on the customs label was "Supermarket Items". There's no value listed. The box warns that it contains glass though so it wouldn't require huge detective skills to cop it if every arriving box was inspected (but of course they're not).
Given that the sender isn't marked as mybooze I'd say it's just bad luck if you're caught at the moment. But if Revenue were to notice a lot of these, all coming via UPS, they'd step up enforcement.
Mine came through also yesterday order was 83 euro. As long as the orders are small they should be ok. The only two people i have heard getting stopped had orders over 400+ euro.
No, is the short answer.
You can, if you jump through a load of hoops with regards to registering as an importer, paying an annual fee and having a warehouse that you declare as your HQ where you store everything before paying duty etc. It's deliberately complex to discourage the average Joe from doing what should be a fundamental cornerstone of EU membership.
Alas, the VFI are second only to the SIMI crowd when it comes to lobbying the government so that they can line their members' pockets. I'd love to see it being challenged in the courts, tbh.
I had the same but declined the offer of a voucher to cover the extra cost. I asked for and got a cash refund of the amount I had to pay. I live close to the airport but it was still a pain getting the stuff after paying the charges. It also means U have a history ,,,,,next time?.
Once you settled the duties was it not then released back to UPS for delivery?
No, it's on me to collect it again.
Do they charge full Irish vat of 23% on it or just the vat difference. Id like to know how they calculated that.
The north is still available for cheap booze, just fuel cost to pay depending on your location.
And if you can get click and collect in the north its even better.
They charge 23% VAT on the excise duty that's due, not on what you've paid already.
Thanks. Last time I checked the revenue site, the excise duty on cider over 6% more than doubles. Not sure about beer.
Probably the reason why you don't see many vintage ciders for sale here.
The order arrived this morning. The packaging was very good and had supermarket items noted on the label. No evidence on the packaging that there was booze inside. They threw in a free Johnny Walker glass and a shot.
Dunnes Stores ONLY €10Sales price valid from 05/02/2022 until 15/02/2022
I thought the MUP for Baileys would be higher than that, some good news at least.
750 mls at 17% should be €10.07 or thereabouts, so just about right I guess.
It's a 700ml bottle, so €9.40 is MUP. I think that's always been the Baileys bottle size, rather than shirnkflation.
LOL it that mean dunnes just make €0.60 profit per bottle?
yea - after dry Jan, i am getting fat and fat by drinking Balieys :)
I don't think you understand MUP. Dunnes can and will still make profit within the €9.40. MUP is not a tax, it's merely a minimum price. Whatever the profit margin was on 'old prices' is still profit margin.
No because the retailer pockets all the MUP increase plus whatever they were making before MUP.
€10 was the standard Xmas "sale" price for Baileys even before MUP (occasionally you'd see it for €9) - I doubt there's much profit margin for the retailer at that price considering the RRP is €20.
Bit the bullet and paid customs as opposed to getting a full refund. Was looking forward to getting some of these bottles, so F* it.
Can't say I'll have need for this voucher anytime soon, so if someone is considering making an order from MyBooze of at least €120, and wants to save an extra €20 quid, send me a DM and you can put my voucher towards it.
