Killing of ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi

I just saw the footage on RTE news of the house in which it is claimed ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi blew himself and thirteen other people up, including 4 women and 6 children during an attack by US special forces.

Hardly anyone will care if these people killed by US forces or by a suicide bomb but we should care about the truth.

The US narrative just doesn’t appear credible to me.

Do you know how many Libyan aircraft were shot down? None. 400 tanks destroyed.

Numberous Libyan aircraft were attacked while on the ground at various bases , hence why they weren't shot down and many Libyan airforce pilots deflected early on in the conflict .

Yes, the Libyan forces were attacked by NATO even while not engaged in fighting, after the ceasefire had been declared.

The UN has been a total Failure since the Korean war , when Russia pushed the north to invade the south , when the North invaded south Korea Russia called for peace and dialogue all while sending Russian forces to attack UN forces trying to hold off the north .

Libya was a civil war ,bar some interventions the fighting was Libyans vs Libyans and mercenaries hired by Gaddafi ,

Oddly enough nobody can tell us what Russian military forces are doing in Libya fighting against the UN recognised government .

First, in my experience of No fly zones , they will be conditional on the circumstances which are mandated at the time by the UNSC resolution. In the case of Libya it was " The UNSC signed a unanimous resolution Nr 1973 which in order to protect Libyan citizens allowed the creation of a non-fly zone, military intervention, ( I presume that destroying a TV station was part of Military Intervention? ) and an embargo on all weapons entering Libya. In the first place this resolution was brought in to enforce a cease fire between the regime and the protesters, who were demanding the removal of Ghaddafi. Who perhaps was understandably reluctant to agree to, and to protect the civilians who were facing the brunt of the fighting.

Resolution Nr 1973 This, does not mention anything about the rebels being armed. But I'd say that if the rebels were attacking civilians, then NATO would be entitled to act to protect the civilians, same as if the regime attacked them.

Aircraft situation March 2011: Analysts estimate many of Libya’s fast jets are in fact no longer airworthy. Gaddafi has so far also lost at least three aircraft in the course of this uprising with two jets defecting to Malta and the crew of a third ejecting over the desert rather than bomb opposition targets as ordered. Personally, I have seen several fighter aircraft hardened shelters ( all bombed to bits) with their planes inside. But in other places, only the bombed out shelters remained. In the subsequent House of Commons, investigation as you said, it was roundly condemned. Obama said initially that the mission had been a success in terms of what it set out to do, to protect the Libyan Civilian population from being massacred by Ghaddafi. But failure to plan for " the day after" led to it becoming a "shitshow" as Obama put it. So there you have it.

The story's that my friends told me about Ghaddafi when I was there, were horrific. But they never mentioned that he was going to butcher half a million people in Benghazi. What they did say was that he turned his tribesmen loose on his enemies, and they slaughtered so many, that Ghaddafi winched when he heard the news. And they cheered when he was ousted, and even more so when they heard that he was dead.

I think your bias is clouding your knowledge of the subject, which appears to be very simplistic.

You are right that "Syrians" are fighting against ISIS but its a lot more nuanced than that.

The dynamics are somewhat complex but there was never really a substantial effort by the Syrian Arab Armed Forces (SAAF) to counter ISIS.

In reality over the last decade, there were multiple separate but connected conflicts occurring within Syria at the same time. Multiple state and non-state actors with their own agendas, using Syria as their playground.

Also:

The narrative that al-Mawla blew himself up, is very plausible. In fact, it is consistent with ISIS TTPs.

I never claimed the situation was not complex. I objected to a poster claiming the Syrian and Russian army never fought ISIS. If you want to characterise that as biased or simplistic that’s your prerogative .

SAAF and ISIS have indeed come up against each other, however ISIS were never the SAAF's main effort.

In the last 3 years, SAAF have become more active against ISIS "sleeper cells", but that is only because SAAF have more operational movement now. And they are not up against ISIS when they were a cohesive organisation.

It is worth examining who are part of "SAAF", its not purely Syrian soldiers.

In truth, the US-led coalition backed SDF were the ones who had the most success against ISIS.

If SAAF were significantly fighting ISIS, maybe you could comment on why the southern Damascus suburbs were controlled by ISIS for so long?

No SafeSurfer I was there for the 3 years 2013-2016. 2013-2015 were the worst years during my time there. In those years, the fighting in and around Damascus never stopped, bombs and bullets became background noise as the fighting ebbed and flowed. Do you have a specific battle in mind? In 2016 it started to calm down a bit though, as the opposition were forced out of the surrounding areas, and move to Idlib.

Yes the Russians did bomb a lot of places, but when it came to taking the streets one by one and close fighting, and finally clearing isis out, the Russians played no part in that. They kept their planes high, and their body count down. The Russians have done very well out of the war in Syria....long term access to Syrian ports and airbases..and a share in Syrias oil / gas wealth, dream time stuff for Putin. A strong voice in Syrian affairs, and at a very good price. So for sure, eliminating Assads enemy's completely was definitely not in Russia's best interests. Oh, there was one occasion when a Russian passenger jet was blown up taking off from Sharm-el Sheik, and it was blown up by an isis bomb, hidden in the luggage. In retaliation, Russian jets bombed fuel convoys taking fuel from the isis controlled oil fields to Turkey ( Ironically Assad bought fuel from them too via intermediaries ) Turkeys President Erdogan's family run the Turkish fuel business and did not take too kindly to the Russians interference in their business, and that resulted in a Russian fighter plane getting shot down while briefly traversing Turkish air space. That triggered some red hot Diplomatic activity, to prevent a war between Russia and Turkey. But I'd say that things have neither being forgiven or forgotten by either side.

Elmer, I strongly suggest that you address that question to the USC. I had neither hand act or part in drawing up or acting on resolution 1973 . When I'm discussing Libya ( or indeed other Country's that I've been in ) what I'm saying is what I have personally experienced and my views are based on that..
