I thought it was just for the month of January but it looks like this is going to carry on😕
Is it a permanent fixture does anyone know? Really offputting having to listen to it. It's really loud too. They certainly did GO LOUD.
Of course it's permanent, Buear stations in the UK have been doing the "cash register" for ages
The number to enter is consistent on all the stations. They possibly use different words to enter to track the numbers of entries each station generates or even which shows/presenters can generate more entries than others.
For instance if Jessica Maciel got 200 people to enter in an hour when she was covering the lunchtime show and then Pamela gets only 100 will that be something the manager pays attention to? I made those numbers up but it would be good to know.
i hope some politician speaks out about it, its getting out of hand now every second station you tune into has it😒
"I demand all the commercial radio stations with no licence fee income immediately cut off a major source of funding!" And meanwhile, RTÉ continues it's own pay-to-enter competitions? Very unlikely to happen, I'd say, at least until advertising revenue really picks up again.
Is ray Foley due to start in feb?
Yep. His last RedFM show is tomorrow.
I imagine he'll take a week or two to get his new TodayFM show ready and then start.
I used to be a very regular listener to The Last Word.
But since it tried to get all hip and trendy, with the 5 @5 and 6@6 etc, plus Matt's new woke style, I began tuning out the odd day.
Now since The Cash Machine arrived, I have more or less tuned out 90% of the time.
There is so little content on TLW, once you take out the same weather, the same news and sports headlines, the same traffic, the cash machine etc.
Years ago, The Last Word used to be left out of promoting competitions that were running on the station, you wouldn't have heard Dunphy shilling the minute with a million competition back in the day
ever show also has its own "cash giveaway" - Fergal's "grand national", Ian's "waffle" D&D's word shite. Pamela doesn't have one yet but its just a matter of time The gambling is heavy on this station
I wonder are they allowed to have their own cash-winning competitions while this network-wide "cash machine" thing continues.
Today FM no longer exists as a stand alone company, Radio Ireland limited T/A Today FM was dissolved at the end of 2021
I may come across as a hypocrite given my previous posts - but i'm still having trouble sending a text to 57599 for the cash-machine comp, i'm with three and i'm in the mid-west anyone else??
I used to enjoy listening to it when driving, so not that often.
Now it seems any time I tune in they have the likes of Dee Reddy or Amanda Brunker on. Always some gossip column type or woke one.
Could do with dissolving that station at this stage tbh. It's unlistenable bar Ed Smith.
Eh no. Ian Dempsey, Dermot and Dave and Matt Cooper's shows are great. Ray Foley coming back too.
yep same here in the last few days! I'm also with 3, just cant text the Cash Machine competition . And you know what, I'm actually glad, its annoying me and I'll be better not getting caught up in it!
maybe 3 are intervening on customers behalf?? too many complaints from parents maybe? and have decided to pull the plug?
Unlikely, seeing as Three get some money out of it, and it's clearly marketed as an over 18s competition. Not many schoolkids listening to the radio during the day, either, to get the amount.
well why the heck can't i send then? its been like this for a fortnight...and it wasn't like i was doing it everyday either
The music is **** shite though, Its hard to listen through Dermot and Dave when the music is so bad. Even the music on Ian Dempsey which always had a bit of variety is a very generic show now.
Matt is a shadow of his former self, he has lost his spark and bite
New JNLRs out, according to their news bulleting just now. Listenership up, no specifics for any shows given.
There was limit on charitable donations from 3 top ups a couple of years ago. I think it was €30/40pm? Maybe its something similar here with the cash machine?
Today FM are up 38k each day year on year. Some show specifics are in this article https://radiotoday.ie/2022/02/radio-nova-records-an-all-time-high-in-the-latest-jnlr-results/
According to that article, everyone is a winner!!
JNLRs May 2021 - December 2021 (in the vain hope I'll be able to find this again in Search)
Ian Dempsey - 184,000 (+6,000)
Dermot & Dave - 208,000 (+3,000)
Mairéad Ronan - 143,000 (+11,000)
Fergal D'Arcy - 134,000 (?)
The Last Word - 173,000 (+3,000)
Alison Curtis Weekend Breakfast - 199,000 Saturday; 167,000 Sunday
Jessica Maciel - 198,000 Saturday (+5,000); 139,000 Sunday (?)
It’s always the way. Nobody is going to make a press release to share how many listeners they’ve lost.
Saw an RTE article pop up on Twitter timeline which says all of their stations had increases too...
With everyone going back to offices etc could there be an increase in radio listeners in general?
