The US are to deploy 2000 troops to Poland and move 1000 from Germany to Romania , announced earlier

Ah the abuse again...I note you're still not seeing the wood from the trees...I may have been generous when I used the term clueless..

Interesting how you continue to ignore the active current destruction of a country a key ally of the US and the UK...nothing to see here!

If small nations are going to start being annexed again, perhaps Ireland has a new reason to be fearful, the last thing we need is a new age of consolidation. I was more in the camp of balkanisation and globalisation, a kind of nationalism in culture only with a one world nation.

A number of strands point to the ability to invade building to the point of viability. That was not in place even a few weeks ago. Again, capability to invade does not mean will 100% invade but I wouldn't like to be in Ukraine seeking logical economic and political fallout assurances, from govt, to comfort me.

If an attack is to happen, it will not happen before the Chinese Winter Olympics ends. To do so earlier would be diplomatically foolhardy.

And where one's lands are already occupied, it would be a pure onion who would not commit 100% to all levels of deterrence.

2000's Moscow has journalists murdered, political opposition murdered, poisoned and imprisoned. Putinbots: "..."

2000's The Kremlin carries out assassinations and attacks with polonium/nerve agent foreign soil. Putinbots: "Wasn't Putin, and so what, they deserved it"

2000's Election interference in multiple countries, troll factories. Putinbots: "Didn't happen, anyway the US did this during the Cold War"

2011 Russia directly supports Assad in Syria. Putinbots: "So what, the US invaded Libya"

2014 Moscow breaks accords, annexes territory and helps rebels seize S East Ukraine. Putinbots: "So what, Iraq"

2022 Moscow deliberately increasing it's forces around Ukraine. Putinbots: "Lol, nothing will happen, besides this is the West's fault"

Putin, always the victim never the aggressor ;)

You are utterly shameless. You should change your name to The Lie.

They are not my words and well you know it...I've asked you several times to post the evidence and you've yet to do so.

You posted this so could you explain the first sentence about ‘restoring historical Russia’

    What exactly is historical Russia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

He apparently was giving out about American tomahawk cruise missiles which are based in Romania ,but America has no cruise missiles in Romania , they have defensive interceptor missles ,

Russia doesn't want any country in Europe to be able to defend itself ,he wants Weapons capable of hitting Russia decommissioned but he wants to keep his weapons that are targeted at Europe .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

It seems to depend what side of the bed Putin wakes up on. As evidenced by his windbag missive on Ukraine widely disseminated among Russian troops along the Ukrianian border.

Where did I mention my position?

I merely asked if possible troop movement by NATO is provocation, why isn't ACTUAL troop movement by Russia also provocation?

And what's your reply...We are where we are.

So where are we? Actual threatening, bullying, intimidation behaviour by Putin.

I have no faith, trust or belief in the intentions of the US or UK, but it doesn't hold because of that, that Putin is behaving like a good neighbour or that his intentions are honourable

MFPM... My last post in this thread was my first. And it was a simple question. And your response was to obfuscate and accuse me of holding a particular "position"

Your posting is disingenuous, flippant, belligerent and purile.

I won't bother engaging with you again. I don't know why anyone would.

Just on Lavrov's letter to the Irish government on security, it appears that Russia seems to think that not only do they reserve the right to dictate security arrangements of sovereign countries East of the Elbe River, they also think they can set down demands the other side of the continent too.

I'd be curious to see what the Putin cubscout league on boards think of the contents and tone of that letter.

It's difficult to defend a letter like that, but I'm sure the hamster wheels are working overdrive to justify why Lavrov took the time out of his day to craft such a communication to a militarily neutral country that for the most part, has no involvement in the security architecture of the continent and isn't likely to.

It's almost like an advertisement for NATO the hostility with which it's written.

It's just reported that the Irish Government has received a letter from the Russian Foreign Minister. The tone sounds pretty abrasive. A more or less immediate reply is being demanded. Imagine the Russians being worried about Ireland's defence and security policy (what policy?).

They could be annoyed about fact the govt. here had the temerity to belly-ache to them about running a drill with their navy using weapons inside the Irish EEZ.

We're very small fry after all, not a "Great Power" like Russia, we don't get a say in such matters and our opinions are not welcome.

In spirit of comment I posted on this thread a long time ago (before Christmas), I wonder would any of the Irish Putin lovers (on either end of the political spectrum) like a switcheroo with a Baltic state, or perhaps Sweden or Finland to be nearer to Mother Russia and its wise leader?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,807 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Ireland is such a soft touch that Russia and Lavrov would only love to continue to expose and pressurise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,189 ✭✭✭saabsaab

Might sound a bit mad here but rather that waiting for a Russian invasion when it suits Putin why not strike first? Their forces are bunched up along the border and might be knocked out by airstrikes by the US and Western allies. It wouldn't be expected and Hitler did similar at the start of his Russian campaign putting the greater of the Red army out of action in 3 weeks.

My god, I say 'your position' and you then go on a rant against me and will no longer engage with me. Either you're completely over reacting or being utterly disingenuous I don't know which.
