R3 = grade was R and fat score was 3.
R3 is ideal grade and fat score.
Whats cast ewe price?
3.30 to 40 kg
If some were fat score 2 it'd be a reason for low KO. I've sold thousands of lambs to ICM Camolin and never a problem with weights.
Lambs on similar management and similar fatscore should KO the same
I agree there. I always found meal fed lambs killed out very consistent.
@Jonnyc135 did you account for the weight of the balls when you were live weighing them? There could be 2kg in them.
I must account for the same when weighing myself after a heavy christmas on the quality street lol
@White Clover, Wouldnt usually account for balls would just leave empty from and weigh in morning maybe 2-3 days before sending to get a true weight (they would go back on ad lib then till they collected). Honest gut feeling is it was my first time ever sending to this place and they just done me as a decent price was got when compared to their base quote and they just wanted cheaper lambs and docked the carcass weights. Sounds illegal but usually these places do what they like. These lambs were eating tonnes of meal and gaining close to 2kg a week, good thriving lambs dont know why there is such a discrepancy when compared to the earlier sold batch
i had a ewe put out her loo today and when i eventually managed to get het up to yard and got disenfactant , and harness ready , the moment i started to gently push it back in all her guts came out as she pushed against me. she kept pushing out against me as i tried to push it in. anyone ever encounter this much before? needless to say nothing could be done for her
Yes, mainly texels, they're able to do that without you even interfering so it was nothing to do with anything you did
Have all the ewes scanned with twins still outside, they are due to lamb from the middle of March onwards. Currently feeding them meal and beet with no forage. Would this be adequate or would they need a bale of Hay aswell? On a bare field and ewes are in excellent condition
Journal reporting a lot of lambs being imported from NI and UK for slaughter here. Anyone hear any rumors or notice anything
bit of hay would be needed .
There'd be alot of lambs coming from northern ireland all the time
Can Hoggets be sent to the factory now with one slaughter tag or what’s the story. I know u have to have them all tagged by December but for a group that is destined for the factory is one tag still sufficent post December
I stated there were increased imports over a week ago

Have a 9 month old lamb that looks like he has lost all use of right legs, look's like a head tremor as well, can only stand propped up against a wall.
I'm guessing listeria, what do more experienced people think?
He ate a handful of lamb nuts out of my hand. Have him isolated.
are they allowed with brexit etc
Is he vaccinated against clostridia diseases?
He isn't.
Do you think it is one of them.
He is indoors on silage and a bit of nuts, the last month.
In my experience it nearly always is. My guess is it's probably a strain of black leg.
Probably as legal as our cattle going north which underpinned the trade all year. Ireland is one island in brexit as well
He has been off since Friday afternoon. Would blackleg kill him quicker.
He is done for either way. Full vaccine program from now on.
Not sure, I had a Bullock a few years ago, wintered in an outside yard that got black leg. I must have spotted him early as he made a full recovery.
Is the lamb improving any bit?
Have you given him anything?
I'd guess listeria, is he blind in one eye
here's the symptoms
I think antibiotic cures it if got in time, better get a vet to diagnose, it no point in guessing
Intensive lamb is after hitting €400 per tonne here now. Lamb prices would want to be rising a bit more
Where are you dealing, We got grennans super ewe and lamb here last week €410 was on the docket but will be less when paying,
That's 20% protein with soya first on the list of ingredients, so high soya, lamb finisher was €368 on the docket
Midland Veterinary is beside me here but its grennans stuff. I think ill start looking elsewhere
They're very expensive, grennans tinnycross branch is only about two miles from tullamore. try them for a price. 0579325500
Is it possible the lambs had a worm burden that only developed & effected last batch. Earlier batch gone before it hit thrive?
How many small square bales in a standard 4x4 Hay bale? Are the small squares value for money or a rip off at 3 euro a bale compared to the rounds? Finding it hard to source good quality round bales but a neighbour has offered small squares at 3 euro a pop.
Also feeding ewes Hay in walk through troughs but notice that they pull the majority of it in under them and walk it into the ground, anyone and ideas has to how to prevent this?
