FG imploding on the regional....if they dont arrest this slide and quickly (afaik labour internal polls have em at 16% in waterford city just before xmas)..they may be facing an utter bloodbath in next local/euro elections as they slightly over-performed last time out imo

Whatever about the intentions of NI, I think you wildly misunderstand UK politics to be honest. And lest it need reminding, UK politics are the only thing that matters.
The aspiration for a united Ireland reminds me of my aspiration to win the Euromillions. Would be nice if it happened but little more than a snowball's chance in hell. Planning for a united Ireland would be like me scientifically working out the best numbers to pick - a complete waste of time and effort.
Why change now, avoid any planning beyond the 4 years in power has been the government plan for the last 100 years!
Polls midterm with an election two years out really don't mean much. You might also recall we've been in a pandemic for these last two years so it means even less.

I can hear O'Briens excuses already..."biggest housing budget in the history of the state".."SF have not delivered on housing in the north".."pandemic caused massive issues with the supply" etc.
And O Brioin with rent freezes and free houses for all the spongers who want one.

Now the Greens appear to be blocking attempts to deal with the rampant number of NIMBY Judicial Reviews of mostly residential planning approvals.
So we can't build roads, can't build houses, can't exploit our own resources and we have made up carbon taxes.
The Greens are going to get a hiding if the plug is pulled. I've seen enough and would like either FF or FG to bring it down.
Another day, another government crisis says the Indo. Seems to be all whingeing backbenchers according to that. That said The Greens need to give the impression that they support the housing plan and other government policy because it makes them easy pickings for Opposition parties.
Sure, the opposition are objecting to new housing left, right and center. "Too tall, doesn't fit in, destroys the bats or local 'amenities'....". Usual BS. They want housing - but not in their backyard. Mostly because it suits them politically to block as many new units as possible.
TBH it's all of the parties. Recently heard a councillor object to 5 storeys as not fitting in with an area that had been green fields a decade previously and which now has upwards of 1,000 houses. Nimbyism feeding through from residents.
Correct. Our whole political system is still parish pump politics. Very little vision.

When you started with "nurse to bed ratio is irrelevant when you don't have enough beds", I decided there was no point in replying.
If you reduce the nurse to bed ratio to international norms, then you have more funding for more beds. As simple as that.
Very positive start to the year on the economy front, could be looking at a close to balanced budget for the year ahead.

Oh please. Let's dance so. Why don't you actually respond on the INMO press release? What part did they get wrong? Where do you differ with them? I pointed out the bed capacity sentences in bold.
Why aren't there enough beds in the system for decades? Why are people on trolleys every winter?
Your point is that successive FF and FG governments chose a better nurse:bed ratio than more beds? Is that your lame excuse? Can you share a link to this policy decision? It seemed to work out really well.
ICU beds have a 1:1 ratio but we did not have enough ICU beds long before Covid hit. I will post many links where ICU doctors were crying out for more capacity.
