Here's to a fun, hassle-free and completely uncontroversial tournament... 😬
Women's draw
Men's draw
Distant 4th?
are you including a 40 year old inactive Federer as being currently ahead of him?
..
Appalling, Schett wasnt great but at least she was some bit capable.
Why cant they choose a native English speaking presenter, would it kill them.
Well to put it in perspective Nadal has played very little in the last year due to being an injured mess and still beat Medvedev so yes if Federer decided to be active in the game right now I’d suggest he’d beat Medvedev.
Again I think this is a shame as it shows where the sport is at but is what it is.
I'd say you certainly don't want Rafa to end up on top if you are claiming this win was diluted. Distant 4th? Probably confirms you don't watch much tennis. Sorry about the clown comment. And yeah Novak will prob end up with more but it's not guaranteed by any stretch. Nadal is heavy favourite for the French and aul Novak isn't exactly young and he could be 2 behind.
Calling someone a clown while childish is not what I'd call aggressive
Fair enough. Rude was the word I should have used.
Better!
Novak is so young still, he'll be the greatest in time.
They’re all the GOAT, lads. Far too much to assess…they’ve all got areas and stats that we can use to claim all as greatest..
Yes, but 13 finals have been on his absolute favorite surface. Similar to Nole and Roger at SW19 and Australia.
I actually agree with this , I think number of slam wins is a decent barometer tho and that's obviously whats now driving them on but you can make a compelling case to call any one of the three GOATs.
I honestly don’t care who ends up as GOAT. Both exceptional players.
If I were a betting man I’d bet on Djokovic assuming he is allowed to play tennis at a slam again.
He’s younger, albeit not by a lot, and fitter. Nadal is older and more injury prone.
Was this slam a diluted win? Of course it was. You’re lying to yourself if you think taking the best tennis player in the world out of the competition doesn’t dilute it.
It’s like saying if Celtic or Rangers were taken out of the Scottish football league it wasn’t diluted. Of course it would be! The other one would just cruise to the title ever year, like Celtic did when Rangers were effectively demoted for financial fair play for a while.
It's great for the Nadal fans, but let's be honest, for anyone else - even neutrals it's just getting tiresome, as mentioned he is back to full fitness again since the success of his foot operation.
He may as well be young and fresh again with the experience of an older player.
He will likely dominate for the next 3/4 years .... boring for most.
He absolutely will not come close to dominating come 2025…
Im a fan of Rafa but he won't be dominating at any stage. I'd say he will win another french maybe 2. I'd imagine next year's French open could be his last tournament
You can call it 'diluted' but you could say the same for djokovic winning the 2016 French open when rafa injured. You could equally say novak would have been massive favourite for the cancelled Wimbledon in 2020, and the US open disqualification. You could also say Rafa would definitely have at least a couple of more slams if it weren't for all the injuries.... I think you just have to accept the actually numbers 21 vs 20... Novak is still favorite to get more, but it's not certain either.
People throw that at Nadal all the time, when in fact Clay is the most difficult surface, Federer had 12 finals on grass, yet no one uses it as a stick to beat him with.
Djokovic beat Murray in 2016 when Murray was world number 1 and in his pomp if I’m out mistaken.
He was the only other player in this era as I’ve said above to challenge the big three properly. So personally I wouldn’t see that as a diluted win.
In this tournament there was no one at Nadals level. Medvedev, great player no doubt but he’s not a Nadal or Djokovic. He’s just not. And that’s Nadal 10 years his elder in his mid 30’s for crying out loud. And just back from injury!
Nadal hasn't won a single set off Djokovic on a hardcourt since late 2013
Djokovic has won 19 consecutive sets on hardcourt vs Nadal since then
Medvedev blew it today
Had 3 break points in the third set to have it wrapped up
Didn't take it
Exactly, no of Grand Slams does not decide who is the Goat, there are many other factors inc homeogenisation of court speeds, racket technology, string technology, ball technology etc.
Nadal is the Clay Goat
Federer or Sampras is the True Grass Goat, newer slow Wimbledon its Djokovic.
Australian Open Goat is Djokovic
US Open is Federer.
Medvedev is a better hard court player than Murray was a clay court player.
Not really using it to beat him with. Just saying that it’s his dominant surface.
not sure on stats but think Roger made 31 slams finals and Nole 30 or so. All very close..
More a stick it to Nole than happiness for Rafa!
Here we go. This is the type of stuff that people against Djokovic have started saying lately, I’m assuming because they’re now realising their beloved Roger or Rafa isn’t going to get the top honours.
Without question they are all exceptional players and all deserve to be the GOAT but they can’t be. Stats and numbers don’t and won’t lie when all is said and done.
I can’t stand Lewis Hamilton but even I have to admit he’s likely to beat Schumachers record and become the GOAT. Numbers don’t lie. Doesn’t mean Schumachers wasn’t amazing but if another person wins more GP’s he’s better.
Clay the most difficult surface ?
In what regard ?
The old fast Wimbledon grass and fast US Open courts were much more difficult.
Getting to a slam final and winning are 2 completely separate things, both Djokovic and Federer would have multiple FOs ( 4 or 5 each) but, for Nadal. Nadal in his prime only managed to win 1 AO, now at 35, and after a long layoff and 2 sets down he beats the player most expected to take over from the big 3, it shows that Medvedev and the next gen players are well below the standard of what went before, good players but, not a patch on the big 3. I'm happy Nadal won, but, it does show that the current top players aren't up to much, when he can come in with little preparation and still win.
But you said Australia his least favorite slam. 6 finals and two wins. SW19 he made 5 finals and two wins..
successful is the description
Rafa could easily end up on the most slams. He is one ahead and the next one he is a short price 11/10 your mate is 12/5. Your point on this being a diluted win makes no sense when compared with this post about numbers not lying.
I love how you’re trying to twist it into me being a Djokovic fan over Nadal and Federer. I’m absolutely not. Let the best man win.
For me this particular slam was absolutely diluted for the reasons I posted already.
I’ll be jumping on those 12/5 for Djokovic to be the GOAT though. Where’d you see that?
