Yeah civil war. Exactly like the one in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yugoslavia and Syria just to mention a few.
Warmongers and war apologists on boards should really lead by example, pack their rucksack and sod off to where their heart pull them.
Are they not
Also add Iran into that
I have to say some of the posts from the Putin apologists here are wild. We're on the precipice of a major land war in Europe that will potentially leave many dead and extinguish a sovereign state as a going conern, and all we get from them is bUT aMEriCA.
Yes, yes, those dastardly omnipotent fellows in the CIA are making Putin do this. Of course.
Wild
More likely Coveney's head will meet the axe in the near future.
He has quite foolishly turned himself into a mouthpiece for the EU, with his ill-advised rhetoric against the perfectly legal Russian training maneuvers out in international waters.
He is being used and strung along like a brain dead puppet. Not unlike how the yanks are using the Aussies to talk tough against China. But with very undesirable ramifications for their own nation. Ireland should be wise here, and not insert ourselves into a conflict that we have no business being part of.
Keeping a good friendly working relationship with Russian diplomats and heads of military is very sensible and intelligent from our POV. The Russian ambassador seems like a decent guy in fairness too. Why would you reject the chance to have a friendly hand shake and photo op? Ridiculous overreaction.
Can’t understand what the hullabaloo is about anyway. A military chief of staff met with a foreign diplomat in the embassy and they took a photo. Gasp
More dishonesty....I suppose when you're losing this is the only refuge you can find, pathetic really.
Ok champ.
So you’re trying to say Russia never did any of these things?
Europe caught between Putin and the body chopper MBS for our energy supplies.
I really hope that the outcome of this barney in Ukraine is the fast tracking of energy independence by European countries.
If social media had been around in 1939 it would have been filled with fanbois for you know who.
There are some ‘minor’ details that the article omitted. Are there enough tankers to transport super chilled LNG to Europe, are there even enough terminals to receive the huge amount to meet Europe’s needs.
Someone will tell me that there are terminals in this country or that country but are there enough?
What things? The poster is being disingenuous, stating things no one has stated as if they had said them.
If boards had been around in 1945, there'd be lads here cheering on Enola Gay as she made her way over the Pacific to carry out her mission...
When exactly do we switch our fear and worry to North Korea? I am struggling to keep up with the cycle now that Covid is over.
Agreed. Coveney is making a fool of himself repeatedly these days.
Can we stop this nonsense about World War III.
It's absurd.
Putin will not invade Ukraine; 100,000 troops isn't enough, regardless.
Even if he did, the US and UK don't have the appetite to get involved themselves.
Putin has achieved enough; dividing Europe and NATO, and telling both that any attempt to drag Ukraine into the EU or NATO will be met with believable resistance.
Invading Ukraine wouldn't achieve much at all in comparison to what he has already achieved.
Well if push comes to shove, and the EU will suffer gas shortages, then that's what will happen, until alternative supplies are sourced. Just remember, if it comes to that, it will be a war situation. But it will be a once off situation, the EU will not be caught twice by that trick, and long term, Russia will pay in lost revenue.
China is a true superpower, Russia is nothing more than a regional power with nuclear weapons ,at one point the during the cold war Russian drew up plans to a lunch nuclear strikes on china due to the fear China would over take them on the worlds stage politically and military wise , Russia also has an ever increasing Chinese population in areas of strategic interest in Russia ,to the point locals Russians have been getting vocal that china could easily do putin and put boots on the ground to protect Chinese citizens.
Iran are no great threat in the bigger scheme of things ,they could give china a foothold in the middle east ,but at what cost ,once china is in they won't need Iran they will either take everything they want using economic might or military might.
Some people will not rest until Russia turns its Rs the other way round.
Have you seen that movie "Hacksaw Ridge" by any chance MFPM? And its a true story, BTW. Oh, and can you stop using that expression " Imperialist Lackeys",,,its SO 50's cold war communist propaganda..way out of date Kamerad.
And why not
You think that if Russia reduces gas supplies (as in 2006), a war will fix it? How exactly? NATO takes over Russia and turn on the taps again? Very simplistic thinking.
War will never happen. Utterly pointless. War is bad for business. And it's all about business.
It's all bluster. Non story. I've seen more risk of war in a Junior C hurling match.
Gotta love the whataboutry that goes on when ever theres a discussion on putin total denials followed by America invaded afghanistan ,Yada yada yada all while blaming people watching Fox news which is only ever mentioned the pro putin types
Ireland doesn’t have an LNG terminal so how do we use this gas?
I hope that you are right...and that its all theatre and bluff. But somehow, I think that its more than that. And no, I don't think that NATO has any plans to take over Russia an turn on the taps again, simplistic idea ( your words , not mine) or not. Why would they even think of doing something like that??? I said that IF push comes to shove, and the gas supplies are cut, then the EU ( and any other Country's affected ) will have to suffer the cuts until alternate supplies are sourced, but that it will be the last time such a trick will work for Putin, and in the long term, the Russian economy will suffer more.
Are you sure about that?
In 2019, 53% of Ireland's natural gas use was imported from the UK. Following the depletion of the Corrib gas field, Ireland is expected to be dependent on over 80% imports by the mid-2020s and over 90% by 2030. Maintaining security of supply of gas is a government priority.
Thats from a gov.ie website.
Now call me pessimistic but I’d imagine the UK will be out to look after the UK (going on recent form) and won’t give a damn about Ireland being at the end of the pipe.
Terribly sorry if my accurate assessment of supporters of US imperial crimes offends you but hey that's your problem and unless you're a mod I'll thank you to not attempt to control my posts, good lad.
Indeed, if mass murder is your thing, which judging by your posts it is!
Someone pointed out today our coal powered generation stations (money point) ? And elsewhere primarily use Russian imported coal ...
So Putin can bend the government over a barrel if he choses to
Gotta love the posters who are incapable of dealing with posts critical of western imperialism hypocrisy and thus make up a false narrative to distract from their intellectual incapacity.
