Normally on these exercises they take aim at local fishing boats.
Shameful. Germany looking weak as hell here. Clearly more concerned with russian gas than the security of europe.
What would you like Germany to do, chop up their furniture for firewood, cook over open fires just to please the yanks?
US responded to Russias demands officially. No concessions given by all accounts.
I want them, as one of the main European countries, to grow some balls and show a united front against a cold war thug. There are alternatives to russian gas. The US are actually sorting that out for Europe as we speak.
Leave the Germans alone. Last time I recall they had boots heading that far east it didn't end well
That's it, he's after our gas. The Ukraine is just a diversion to the invasion of Cork!
😂
Are you aware that the US imports Russian oil while preaching to Europe about being too dependent on Russian energy.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
Watching NATO press conference, basically the offer is talks, but not bargaining and nothing new tbh. Open door policy to NATO will continue, respecting nations right to self determination and respecting decisions of states like Sweden and Finland NOT to join.
Cyber, space, and nuclear weapons/warfare and Russian entrenchment in Belarus all getting mentioned.
Yep, and last time German helmets were in Ukraine that never went too well either
What are you suggesting exactly? That because russia controls a lot of gas we should let him do whatever he wants? What a craven attitude. Why do you hate freedom?
What are the alternatives though?
US lpg?
Germany import 30 odd % of gas from Russia due to Germany closing down some of their nuclear power plants.
How much of this 30 odd per cent can be supplied by US shipments of gas? Genuine question by the way.

Have to wonder why Russia would choose this particular space of International waters to hold such exercise. Why not off the coast of Norway or Iceland?
Has the Dept of Foreign Affairs made statements or something that would draw the ire of Russia of late?
If so, then we are not being well served by the DFA as it is not in our collective interests to be on Russia's radar.
Off you go so, Cheezums. Take a few of the Tier 1 operators in this thread with you and defend all our honour.
Hmmmm.
It would be interesting to list all the countries in Europe that are dependent on Russian gas and see how much gas is being used.
Could the US continually supply this over the winter?
That would be interesting to find out.
Also if this did happen I imagine the cost for Europe will go through the roof with all the shipping etc.
Does Ireland have a facility to process LPG or is it just a simple plug and play into the Bord gais system for example?
Military superior to the US? i think people are vastly over estimating both China and Russia, the later's ecomony is about the same size as south koreas, realistically take away western values and morals, take off the gloves and west and the US alone would wipe the floor with Russia and China, in a non nuclear conventional war. The US can take on both and win.
China has next to 0 ability to sustain any power projection beyond its own boarders not to mention the only thing close to being "Battle tested" or combat experience they have on record is a few fisty cuffs with the india's army.
They look great on paper but the reality is the US if far superior to any fighting force on the planet by some distance.
This has very little to do with Ireland. The "exercises" are taking place over an area of seafloor that sees a number of transatlantic communications cables converging in a rather small area. The tweet below is rather schematic in nature, but should give you a general idea.
David MacSweeney on Twitter: "Russia to conduct major exercises including missile launchs off #Ireland's south west coast in early February. With EU/NATO partners bickering over their response to the #Ukraine crisis it's important to remember in strategy it's not always the what but the where. https://t.co/VtFtL37qp2" / Twitter
Now, Russia is known to have nuclear submarines that are able to serve as base camps for deep-sea diving operations, the submarines "Orenburg", a Delta-III missilbe submarine with its torpedoes and missiles removed to make room for dive support equipment and "Belgorod", a heavily modified "Oscar" class submarine able to both dock deep-sea submersibles and fire the "Poseidon"/"Status-6" autonomous nuclear armed and fuelled torpedo, come to mind immediately. If I were a betting man, I'd say that the really interesting stuff is going to happen underwater. Now, whether they're straight going to cut the cables or just install listening devices is anyone's guess.
Well if this is the case why would Germany be so worried about imposing sanctions?
Fears that Putin would cut off gas supplies have made some European countries, such as Germany, wary of imposing sanctions on Putin if he proceeds with an invasion.
If it was as easy as shipments of LPG from the rest of the world surely Germany would be standing with its European neighbours here and calling putins bluff?
For the record I think if Putin does invade, Russia need to be tackled by the west but it surely will be at the risk of losing our gas supply that we rely on not just for heating or cooking but our electricity too.
And yet it's Russia threatening its neighbors with invasion ,,,,,,
Something that your happily ignoring
MH17. Has everyone forgotten about it. Who shot it down?
Now around these parts it was either the CIA or the Ukrainians who shot it down to make Putin look bad and the Russians were not in eastern Ukraine at the time
True story
Russians Oleg Pulatov, Igor Girkin and Sergei Dubinsky, and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko. They were removed to Russia the day after I think. The trial is underway in the Netherlands.
Video from Dutch Safety Board.
Anyone care to have a bash at this?
Its everything to do with Ireland its exposing a weakend flank of nato since Ireland cant defend itself or police its own territories its basically Russia giving the EU and US the middle finger its also forcing NATO to spread its intelligence across many fronts and a distraction.
Id say they are already well tap'd into those lines aswell its common knowledge that they have been there.
Ireland is at fault for not having sonar or primary radar, but you would imagine nato would have been pointing this out for years considering our geographical location.
Maybe they were?
No I don’t, I doubt anyone here has either.
I do know from the referendum and all the polls that have been taken in Crimea from numerous different sources that the overwhelming majority of people there want to be part of Russia, I don’t need to have a cousin over there to know that, it’s not some Russian propaganda conspiracy going on like numerous posters have claimed.
Comical Ali comes to mind "There are no Russians in Donbass and their rations have NOT been stolen....."
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/russia-ukraine-troops-in-donbas-court-document-amid-concern-invasion/
Unfortunately I believe this has to be faced , I've been saying it for years Putin will not stop at ukraine ,there will always be an excuse for him to expand through multiple countries ,then what for years many people on boards have said Putin shouldn't be tackled because he has nukes ,now it will be don't tackle him because he now control's the European power and energy supply and if we don't allow him to invade countries at will he will turn off Heating and the lights.
Germany needs to be forced to tear you the norstream contract and remove the infrastructure for it ,
It's either we suffer short term now than spend the next few decades not just for us but our children being held hostage at the hands of Russia
