😂
That's it, he's after our gas. The Ukraine is just a diversion to the invasion of Cork!
Leave the Germans alone. Last time I recall they had boots heading that far east it didn't end well
I want them, as one of the main European countries, to grow some balls and show a united front against a cold war thug. There are alternatives to russian gas. The US are actually sorting that out for Europe as we speak.
US responded to Russias demands officially. No concessions given by all accounts.
What would you like Germany to do, chop up their furniture for firewood, cook over open fires just to please the yanks?
Shameful. Germany looking weak as hell here. Clearly more concerned with russian gas than the security of europe.
Normally on these exercises they take aim at local fishing boats.
What happens during these exercises? Do they bring along a few clapped out ships as targets to try and hit? Not much point aiming at imaginary ships in the middle of the ocean I suppose. All the while they have an RV scooting around the cables underneath, laying explosives that Gertrude can detonate if necessary in the future. Ferris probably owns a few patents in the remote detonation area though; if he gets wind of it he'll be heading out in the Marita Ann to complain.
Drowning Russians , just remember the Kursk submarine , Putin didn't care about his sailor's then,
And Russian military losses overseas are classified as state secrets,
I am cautious of thinktanks in general but a decent article here on the Guardian. Possibility that there could be a push from the South-East to expand "rebel" territory, and Moscow could play the deniability card.
"Speaking privately, Ukrainian government insiders concede Moscow could easily target the port of Mariupol, which is 15 miles away from the frontline. The city is economically prosperous and home to a large metallurgical factory, the Illich iron and steelworks, named after Lenin.
Expanding territory controlled by the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) would make the Russian-backed enclave more viable. Putin already effectively controls these areas and may take steps to recognise them legally or even annex them."
The Russians have given Ireland plenty of advance notice of their intentions to hold exercises in International waters off our coast. It's the responsibility of the government here to keep our eejits at bay.
Of course they should. Would we leave (in the worst case) our citizens or the Russians to drown?
Seems like they've put a bit of thought into this.

"He said: "We are hoping that if they are going to carry out an exercise, they will keep a safe distance from us - not the other way around. And if they feel that they need to come into our area where we're fishing, our protest is we're not moving. We are there to earn a living."
So the scenario will be, our fishing boats are already in an area fishing. If Russian warships then enter that same area and start lobbing munitions about, should our fishery protection vessels also enter the area?
Claro. The tentacles of the 52nd Tecate Battallion are all over Boards. And we're all the better for it. :D
The majority of people posting on boards.ie are Mexican bots.
Obviously yes ,
Have you been to Crimea before '14 and during ? Have you been to Donbas? Or do you know anyone from the region?
The time for Mexico to reclaim Tejas and environs (up to the Canadian border and from sea to shining sea) will come. For now, Mexico's focus is on encouraging internal division and unrest in the US, particularly in the Southern States. At the moment this mostly takes the form of drinking a lot of Patron and talking sh1t about gringos, but they are ready to scale up at any moment, with or without Russian support.
Germany to send 5000 helmets to Ukraine. Maybe they offer to send some coffins or body bags next week.
Well that would be an illegal pre-text then, and the world agrees. No more than Scotland can't organize a flash illegal referendum against the UK constitutional order sponsored by a foreign power with undeclared military and mercenaries skulking around.
Would you be making excuses if Russia engineered the same in Estonia? Kazakhstan? Latvia?
Illegal is illegal is illegal. This is from the 1930s playbook and anyone endorsing it to be an edgelord is a fool - the peace in Europe, hard-won and hard-maintained, is under threat because of this disgraceful and retrograde nonsense.
OK, I was wrong on giving the UK and France, rather than NATO as a whole prime responsibility for Libya. But my main point was that it was not an invasion (or occupation) The aftermath was a total shambles, for reasons we now know. But to characterise Libya under ColG as one of the most well-off and successful countries in all of Africa is misleading. Lots of oil and a small population was bound to make Libya well-off. But the Colonel was a monster and his meddling abroad was inexcusable: just look at his arms shipments to the IRA for heaven's sake
Well their excuse is that the majority of people in the areas they occupy want to be part of Russia.
The same excuse the British used for partitioning our island against the will of the vast majority of people in Ireland, difference is there was only a small majority in Northern Ireland whereas in Crimea there is a very large majority.
There are numerous other excuses but that’s one anyway.
In their last serious tests these tanks came up against in Iraq and Lebanon, they both were vulnerable. In Iraq, they were facing a badly trained army and some militias. In Iraq, they lost 80 tanks and the Saudis seem to have lost about 40. Some tanks have been updated with trophy and other systems but they still will remain vulnerable to a coordinated attack by a modern army. I would take my chances with lighting rather than a massive IED in an Abrams.
You may be right and these new systems will give the tanks some extra protection but anti-tank weapons have also improved as has drone developments. The systems that the Uk has supplied to Ukraine look cheap and lethal. Time will tell. Never say never.
So is the Russian military. They've not been static the last few years either.
Now that you've got that non-sequitur off your chest, what's the excuse for Russia dismembering and invading a sovereign country again?
NATO didn’t invade Syria either, it’s easier to hire blood thirsty Jihadists to do your dirty work. These were known as ‘rebels’ to you.
He doesn’t have a clue I’m guessing, anyone who believes the west toppled one of the most well off and successful countries in all of Africa on some sort of great humanitarian mission isn’t worth arguing with.
They could have found far greater humanitarian reasons to invade most African countries.
Have you ever heard of Operation Odyssey Dawn?
So what does this little play tell us about how we should approach the Ukraine situation today? I actually don't know what the point is apart from reminding us that Hitler was bad.
