Ah that’s amazing news!!
Ray has his last show at 98fm on soundcloud and when he’s giving his farewell speech you can really hear how much he loves working with JP.
He’s often mentioned him on RedFM that they only meet up once a year now for dinner not because they’ve fallen out they’re both just too busy.
Also does that mean DJ Jayo is coming back?
Great podcast from OTB tonight of a long on air segment talking to JP about the move etc. They also did a version of Feedback.
New schedule kicks in January 24th
Anne Marie Kelly was treated very badly by Today FM when it was run by Big Willie O'Reilly and his yesman Tom Hardy https://www.independent.ie/regionals/herald/entertainment/tv-radio/why-i-quit-dream-radio-job-to-look-after-my-baby-girl-27914150.html
A pitty Paula is gone off the airwaves along with Darcy she's some melt.i guess she's a pet of Ian and she gets kept
Can you try that again in English please?
Something something woman on the radio is sh*t.
Should add the amount of people taking glee that someone has lost their job is a bit out of order in my opinion.
Understand you didn't like them or their show, but expressing delight that someone has lost their livelihood is a bit over the top.
So who has done the early early morning shift, that's soon to be done away with, since Radio Ireland relaunched as Today FM?
Paula McSweeney
Teresanne O'Reilly -now with WLR
Anne Marie Kelly - now with Midlands 103
Paul Power - now with KFM
Stephen Keogh (as far as I can recall) - now Programme Controller of Tipp FM, Manager/Presenter of online station Greatest Hits Ireland and Producer/Presenter/Manager of SK Media
Tommy Greene - now with East Coast FM and also owner of www.mobiledjs.ie
Who else?
Story Story Story!
Tim Kelly did it for a long time. louise duffy for a year or 2. neither involved in radio now.
Here's another one to ponder!
Who joined Today FM after the name change on January 5th 1998 but before Ian Dempsey had started?
I think the first two off the blocks were Tim Kelly and Marty Miller. I'm fairly sure Tommy Greene joined during that period.
Any more?
Seems Foley and JP starting first or second week of Feb. Foley working out his Red FM notice period and OTB mentioning JP has the rest of the month off.
What about when Bill Hughes did a Classical music show in that slot on Radio Ireland? Alison Cuirtis and Pamela Blake also had stints doing it in the early 2010s. There was also Danny Cremin who won the opportunity to host it for a summer when he was still in school, he doesn't seem to have been particularly active in radio since
Perhaps Ed Myers and John Troy? but I've a feeling that they like Mark Byrne could have started a few weeks before the rebrand.
Just to piggyback on the above, Teresanne O'Reilly is no longer in radio either. Left WLR over a year ago now I would think and has recently had a baby.
You are right about Bill Hughes, but I was thinking more about when the name changed to Today FM. That is because the station used to have a current affairs programme for the breakfast slot, except for it's last month as Radio Ireland when Mark Byrne came along, so it was a quite different morning set up anyway. As a matter of interest, I wonder would anyone know if Bill Hughes was still on before Mark in his first month with the station?
I'm pretty sure that Ed Myers joined before the rebrand as a weekend breakfast presenter. I know for a fact that John Troy did, as he replaced dance deejay Mark Kavanagh in the autumn of 1997 with a Saturday night/Sunday morning love songs show!
Such a pleasure to still have Ed Smith on the radio. He's the only one I listen to on Today FM nowadays. Hope they appreciate him as much as his fans do.
(And Dec Pierce, another gem!)
Jesus dude, give it a rest. Just because someone doesn't like a certain presenter or thinks they're a melt, doesn't mean they dislike them because they have a fanny and tits. The user also included D'arcy in the comment. Unless Ferg got it chopped off, your comment makes no sense.
Your comments all over boards consist of mostly replies to people who dislike certain presenters and you are straight in saying it's because they're women.
And no idea where the glee is in that posters comment that someone lost their job?
I doubt they do.
I try to stream his show from the Today FM or Goloud app the following day.
More often than not I get a message saying there is a playback error. Which tells its own story.
So did anyone here listen to Dempseys first 6am hour this morning? Did it sound pre-recorded/Voice tracked?
Listened to a bit at the end and he was reading comments from people saying why they are up early.
I’ve had issues with that app as well. Some programmes aren’t available whatsoever and others you can click into but they never play.
A pity he never had any airtime on OTB. Hopefully he'll be on with Ray
Or that game where callers had to guess if it was Ray or JP talking
Or the death notices.....😃
Remember all those things they didn't have time to do at the end of every show. They have time now.
Today Fm summed up: Plug the " Cash machine" at every given opportunity. Have some presenter spout inane sh1te" Text in how you like your toast ". Play Ed Sheeran on loop. Absolutely horrific radio station.
As regards the "Cash Machine", as far as I can make out, all the Bauer Media stations are required to give it a good plug. When you hear the likes of Shane Coleman on Newstalk plugging the "Newstalk cash machine" you would know it wasn't his idea!
