EV Charger connection from the meter box

Can an external socket to be used with a granny cable be fitted from the meter box along side the EV charger connection

Anyone got a picture of what the set up in the meter box looks like for an EV charger connection from the meter looks like?

Here's a pic of my meter box installation which was done last Monday. Zappi is just to the right on the wall with an isolator switch. I have a day night meter and the small fuseboard box replaced a smaller one that was there already. Neat install, all compliant.

Not to putting down your installation, you should have a double pole main isolater , that breaks both live and neutral from esb meter

Not sure what the thing in the top right is called but wouldn't that not break the connection if it was turned off

I was posting to disagree but edited :ya the board is distributing to the car charger so main isolation is now at the cabinet presumably

Dunno what I think about those Cat5s and RCDs or RCBOs in the cabinet. Meter cabinets were already barely fit for purpose, although it's the logical place to wire car charging from

Other side of the coin is the back in the day the cabinet was exclusively for ESB equipment, now you've got cat5s and RCBOs in them

Last inspection I had inspector told me ESB networks now do not allow it to be supplied from the meter cabinet.

One of our subbies rang RECI and was told the same thing.

According to that newsletter it was ESBN who requested the change.

Multiple breaches of regulations

1 it’s not permitted in Esb meter box since march 2022

2 it requires double pole isolation on distribution board

3 it requires single pole isolation for sub board in house (may be there but I can’t make it out)

4 it requires surge protection

5 no gland on cable at bottom (minor issue but affects the ip 55 rating)

A 7 module enclosure is the minimum required to fit all the associated tripswitchs.That’s why it’s not permitted inside a meter cabinet as it’s too big for esbn permissible measurements(180mmx225mm) .It can go outside the meter cabinet,adjacent to it

This is beside the meter box. It’s missing a single pole isolator for the main house however (not my install,just came across it recently). It’s not permitted to take additional circuits from it

They've fed the house from the main board and main MCB, didn't see that first time so there is main overcurrent protection

So just the house isolator missing from board then ?

Those boxes won't take much abuse mounted on the side of houses and people will be adding sockets for hoovering cars etc.

The genie is out of the bottle now with distribution at the cabinet.

The trouble started with the main ocpd at the cabinet as can be seen from the sheds threads.

Companies are distributing to sheds from the main MCB

They should have left the cabinet for ESBN and everything distributed from main DB in house

The old system of main overcurrent protection at the main DB didn't give much trouble
