With route maps and new teams kits starting to come out I thought it a good time to get this going
Magnus is an interesting character and I like his commentary. The cycling history podcast on his Paris Roubaix win is well worth a listen - https://shows.acast.com/re-cycle-the-cycling-history-podcast/episodes/second-doesnt-exist-when-backstedt-denied-museeuw-in-his-fin
Nice to see his daughter going well, but with 2 pro cyclists as parents sheβs got the genes (as does their other daughter who rides for Trek).
Cant winning her 13th NC in a row is a good example of why I haven't completely taken to Cyclocross. It's all very one-sided most of the time and tomorrow will be much the same unless WVA has a mechanical (tempting fate).
Nationals live from 12:35
Looks like the Dutch organisers might have seen my comments the last time they used a carousel in a race. They have a top down camera over it as the women go through it. Looks amazing!!!!!!!!!
The guy presenting there with Quigley has to be a brother of yer man from Operation Transformation on RTE surely?????
mud fest on the irish nationals
The Belgian national championships looked like there might be a race for about one lap of nine. By four laps in WVA has about 30 seconds and looks uncatchable
Watching the Irish Nationals, seems like about 60-70 % of the course is unrideable, more of a cross country running race than a bike race. Very different dynamic to most 'cycling' races
Pit pens on the left in the Irish racing???? Don't think I've seen that very often if ever.
Is Pidcock riding the UK NC?
No don't think so. Training camp with Ineos road team if I recall.
Actually he's down to start here https://cyclocross24.com/files/pdf/startlist/2022/british-national-championships-2022.pdf#page=14
I'll be flicking over now in a few minutes after the Belgian men finish.
It is, 15th June as the start date.
Is there a route announced yet?
Nope but I would be expecting something in the next few weeks, as far as I am aware it is going ahead full gas.
Technically the road season kicks off this week with the Aussie NCs and looks like Eurosport will be covering it at the weekend.
Rohan Dennis took the men's ITT and Grace Brown took the women's title.
Brand having to dodge a pheasant during the women's race there.

If you don't mind Spanish commentary then the first pro race of the season is streaming here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQyuQY3hLZo&ab_channel=SPORTPUBLICTV - into the last few kms. I believe it's a legit stream. Apologies if not.
I caught the last 20km it's a legit stream. Love racing in Spain this time of year.
The men's CX was cracker today. The kids call Iserbyt "the boy" because they think he's really young because of his size lol.
Serious incident with Bernal. I would be surprised to see him this season. May never be the same again with those type of injuries along with his back issues.
Yeah looks like 2022 is definitely a writeoff
It was only the other day they had video up of a close call with an on coming driver over taking. I don't know was he fully over the back problem? Enough to win a Giro at least. He's a rider I actually like at Ineos and I think this and the back problem has robbed him quite badly of success.
It sounds even worse following news from the hospital.
βAt that moment, he was examined across the board by specialists. In light of the findings, he must undergo surgery in the coming hours due to multiple injuries: vertebral and thoracic trauma, blunt trauma of the thorax, musculoskeletal trauma, and trauma to the lower limbs. For the moment he is haemodynamically stable. We hope for the best in his clinical outcome.β
Sounds like a genuine lucky to be alive story.
After that it will be a happy if he can still walk story.
Google translate from the latest update
"The Neurosurgery group performed a reduction of a dislocated fracture from level T5 to T6 with traumatic disc herniation. Under constant intraoperative monitoring of evoked potentials instrumentation was achieved from T3 to T8, maintaining intact neurological integrity and preserving the functionality of the involved segments."
That sounds like he could easily have been paralyzed without surgery. He has a long road ahead of him without even thinking of his other injuries. Such a shame as he really is a fantastic racer and seems like a hell of a nice guy.
Jesus, that sounds awful. Forget about Pro cycling. He is lucky to be alive.
Terrible news for Bernal. As has been said a likeable lad despite his team (although Ineos getting a bit more likeable these days since they can't win the TdF anymore :). Was looking forward to the Pog, Rog and Bernal clash during the summer. Oh well get well soon.
hope Bernal gets well soon!
