I'd imagine the Patrick St. area etc will be ruined now with the noise/volume of traffic etc. I suppose you could say Roche is an eyesore, but you'd hardly notice it tbh.

In comparison to the traffic that went through the village for years before the bypass?

Got to say 'tis strange to me the things that people will worry about - building stuff is a worry, having stuff near them is a worry and now removing a chemical plant that many people complained about being so close to a village is a worry.

A few truck loads of scrap and rubble and some landscaping machines and it'll be gone and it'll soon only exist in the memories of all the people who had livelihoods from it.

Even though I don't live in Clarecastle anymore, when I did I was always a bit concerned about the place tbh - the smell around the village could be pretty cloying at times. I always wondered what exactly it was.

One truck every 4 minutes? Doesn’t sound like much to me considering there used to be at least 10 times that many I’d say trucks alone before the bypass.

I assume they'll be heading out the "old road" rather than through the village and out the motorway, just as well the bridge was fixed

Also this is a once off chance to clean up the site. If not done now the site will be left as it is for decades to come. Where else will the hundreds of millions come from for such a project.

Got a mention on radio the other day, I'm all for art but this is a butt ugly yoke.

I think locals should have some say in what gets installed in their town or village instead of it being imposed from on high by a county council 'Orts' crowd.

You're right of course, the locals are really the clients in a project like this, so the artist/sculptor should really have worked in collaboration with that community about what they were gonna get stuck in their village, not the county council.

Bit of a snooty remark. People that live there will have to look at it every day and hate it. It's not good for town or artist having something that's unwanted and disliked and towns and villages dont exist simply for tourists' benefit, maybe people will go out of their way to look at one ugly statue, who knows? The process was ham fisted from the outset when no one from the locality was actually consulted about what was planned until it was about to be cast.

Let someone or place that actually wants it go and buy it at this stage.

Can you explain how someone can or cannot 'have a clue about art'?? Art is subjective so therefore everyone's opinion carries equal weight - you do not need to have any education to 'understand' art.

No, No. I disagree, everybody's opinion does not carry equal weight. Many have no interest or appreciation for art and thought some have a natural appreciation (or an eye) others certainly need an education. Why else are there art schools etc.
