Is it just a matter of paying the €55 again. Is there anything that I can do? I don't see anything on the website about this!
Thanks. I'm always early also. Just mistakenly got Time wrong. Had no offer of waiting around. Just flatly refused. I guess I'll have to be more careful next time.
15mins, I did the same a couple of years ago. I'm usually a little early for most appointments but was 17mins late for my NCT and was similarly refused. Best they'd offer was to hang around and if they got a no show they'd try and fit me in but after wasting an hour with no update I left. Was charged a no show fee also for the missed appointment time.
Does anyone know the cut off period for a late arrival to your test appointment? I mixed up my times. Was25-30mins late and was refused and had to reschedule. Was only one other customer there. I know I messed up but seemed very harsh.
Just ignore that message and keep clicking through to continue booking
I can't seem to find the option for booking a re-test. When I enter my no. plate on the website it says something like "warning: you are not due..."?!
ok
OK, forget any of my comments above. The NCT is the least important thing about your post.
I will say this with genuine concern and as much sensitivity as I can. If your level of anxiety is being raised to unbearable levels over this issue, please go and speak to your Doctor about getting support to manage it.
If there are bad relationship issues in the family, for whatever reason, talk to the Doctor about them as well. They can help you get support and counselling, firstly for yourself and for your personal family relationships too if that's what you want.
I'm saying this because I don't like the vibes I'm getting from your posts. You don't have to live at that level of stress and worry or at the thin end of a domineering or controlling relationship. Please make the call.
They used to pre-authorise the fee and bill you on the date of the test, that's what happened me when I did the test in Feb. 2021. But they now bill you straight away, as happened me when I booked a test last December for a slot in Feb 2022.
If you fail to show up, they refund you the €55 minus the €22 late cancellation/no show charge i.e. they will refund the OP €33.
It's No.7 in the NCT FAQs....
If you choose to cancel the appointment or fail to show up, you will be refunded the pre-paid amount minus the cancellation fee i.e. A refund of €33.00 will be issued.
Pre-payment for the NCT
The test fee is deducted from your credit/debit card once the booked appointment has been confirmed.

What business is it of ours that she missed her NCT, when penalties are clearly laid out by the NCT?
If the car has NCT and is insured what business is it of yours who pays for it?
No I didn't mean that he'd actually give out to me. It's just that I happened to forget something recently else that was important. So if he knows about this he will be viewing it as a pattern. I know what he'll be saying, and I wouldn't be able to take it.
If you can't fund your own NCT, don't run a car.
And Jesus wept, if you're old enough to run and drive one and you're still worried about getting given out to by your father, maybe a grown up activity like driving isn't for her either.
You will be charged 77euro in total, 22 for the missed one and 55 for the next one. You do not lose the preauthorised 55euro, it might be on hold but it has not been taken.
Jesus - that's a bit harsh. Perhaps he's paying for it?
You didn't forget to do your chores, how old are you that you're in line for a punishment from Daddy for missing your NCT??
Just be an adult and take the penalty for missing it and tell Daddy to MYOB.
You won't ever forget to do it again.
Just say your test was postponed due to lots of their staff isolating due to Covid19.
I think my dad might remember that I was due for the NCT. He could go mad if I forgot it. I wonder could I say I post-poned it or something. What would sound like a believable excuse?
It was definitely charged. I doubted whether it was on the very same day I booked it. That's grand so as long as it will be taken into account.
Check your statement, you shouldn't have been charged until you actually checked in at the NCT centre before the test.
"4. Can I pay for the service using cash?
NCTS tests can be booked online and need to be confirmed with a credit or debit card. Payment is by
pre-authorisation where the test fee is only taken off your credit/debit card once the vehicle is checked
in at the test centre. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, cash is not the preferred method of
payment at this time, we would ask for customers compliance with this approach.
NCTS chip and pin terminals are regularly cleaned with antibacterial wipes."
I was referring to the previous €55 charge in December. You say you think it went through then but I doubt it. Try to check your statements if you can. But even in the unlikely case that it was actually charged then, that will be taken into account when you rebook.
Thanks,
Well that was a scrn shot taken today when I had the option to pay; I decided not to. But as for the previous €55 charge I paid in December... I think went through on the very day I booked it on the computer. I assume they'll just refund me if I go ahead and pay?
OP, you never paid the 'first' €55. Your card gets pre-authorised when you book but the €55 isn't taken until you book in on the day.
You only pay the €55 once. It probably has not yet been charged. It was probably prearranged on your card but not charged until you would have arrived for the test. The €22 cancellation fee will be charged the next time you arrive for your test along with €55.
Or has the €55 already gone out of your account?
I think you pay 22 for your missed test. That's the punishment.
You pay 55 for the test you rebook and do attend
Oh so you're saying I have to pay the second €55 plus €22?? That's quite a punishment.
I believe you get charged the penality fee automatically when you show up at your next appointment
How do you book for that on the website? I'm being directed towards the regular booking:
€22 in addition to regular €55
From the appointment notice:
"Please arrive on time for your appointment, if you are late you may have to re-book for another day and pay a cancellation fee of €22.00 for a full test or €11.50 for a re-test appointment.
You can rearrange this confirmed appointment (online or phone 014135992) by giving at least 5 working days (Monday - Friday, not including the day of the test) notice. If you do not give us this minimum notice or fail to show up for the test, a €22.00 surcharge for a full test or €11.50 for retest will be automatically taken from your card"
You'll be charged also a fee for not showing up, I think it's 22€ in addition to regular 55€ but yeah you can book again as normal but I do believe they charge the fee when you do show up
