7 devices in stock in Tesco Arthurs Quay Limerick (as of 2 hours ago!)
Plenty of cans around it seems, but of the two local shops I've seen the cans neither have surger units. Has anyone seen the units around?
Keen to get one for watching the rugby this weekend!
Found cans today for the first time since Christmas. Full shelf in tesco at coonagh in limerick.
No, the O'Haras nitro stout is a different product, in a widget can.
I assumed the O'Hara's Nitro Stout was their "Dry Irish Stout", which I also think is decent in a bottle. But I always struggled to pay €2.75 for it in Supervalu, when LF was €2.50 in Tesco. In the before times, when I was in Brewery Corner, I don't think either Stout was nitro'd. LF wasn't anyway.
@LollipopJimmy I've also been messing with topping non-nitro cans with the surger. Works well with a lot of the darker, lower carbonated beers.
Went and checked out tesco clarehall this evening and they had all gone but I have heard that alot of shops are getting the cans back! Still struggling to find a nitrosurge unit though 😢 anyone sees some let me know 👍
I had a Festa Nuda through it. Well to pour it I needed to do 50% through the surger and then 50% normal. It made a difference, a much smoother taste
Leann Folláin is quite a bit stronger and heavier than O'Hara's Stout. I doubt nitro would do it much harm, any more than it does Porterhouse XXXX. Big-flavoured stouts have less to fear.
Is that not what O'Hara's Nitro stout is essentially?
Speaking about their Nitro Stout, it's far nicer than any can of Guinness and has a better head than the surger cans.
Haven't been impressed with the surger at all.
I was just in Tesco Clare hall and they have the Guinness surger cans. 6 for €15.
I got a couple on amazon:
the surger cans will be back in stock in tesco on 29th according to my mate who works there. reckon they will sell out fast again though
On the Leann Follain, I think it would be a travesty to put nitrogen in Leann Follain. LF, is perfect as it is.
He wouldn't have bothered with Guinness out of can, pre-nitrosurge. We split a box of nitrosurge cans when they first came out, and he's converted. He's not so enamoured with the pinned 538's, but not arguing at the price they were.
I have to say I was a bit of a nitro skeptic before messing with the surger, but the Nitro Red is definitely an improvement on the bottle. Waiting for the Nitro Leann Follain cans though!
I have tried probably about 15 different dunnes in the last month or so. I always seem to miss them 🙈
You might be better off looking for some 500ml glasses. I was looking for these just before the 538s were released but then I got distracted. The hunt is back on I think
Can’t be sure if these are 500 or not. I think they might be as someone said the nitrosurge didn’t fit in them. A bit of a rip at €22 though https://www.carrollsirishgifts.com/official-guinness-glasses-4-pack-with-embossed-harp-logo-design/80185.html
These IKEA ones could do the trick https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/lodraet-beer-glass-clear-glass-50209337
Interesting. I tried O'Hara's Nitro Red recently and was a bit disappointed - I've had a Nitro Red in a pub before and it was really nice, so wonder if the surger might help!
I think I'd agree with that - though I'll be honest and say I tend not to drink cans of Guinness and am far from an expert!
That's interesting on the different cans. Might give a few a go soon.
My father in law is my resident Guinness expert and his view is it's the nearest to pub he's had out of can.
As for other beers - I've pinned O'Hara's Nitro (Stout and Red), Kilkenny, and Beamish, as well as Guinness Zero. Only real one where it didn't work was a Hope Nitro Stout that seemed way over nitro'd. Really any nitro widget can will work. How much actual difference to taste it makes is a different thing, but they look nice!
I used it on a John smith's can from up north and it was lovely. Dying to try it on a can of kilkenny, but haven't seen them in ages.
Having finally gotten my hands on a unit and cans, my initial impressions are that it does a very good job for a can - but it's a few steps below being 'pub quality'. It still seems a little thinner or something - hard to explain.
Anyway - would definitely make me more inclined to have a can of Guinness than before, so I suppose that's a win for Diageo.
I'm also keen to try it out on some other cans out there? Anyone had any positive results with other beers? Wondering what it might do to a can of craft stout or the like (I like trying what's out there but can never get a decent pour, so they end up looking like a glass of Coke rather than stout!)
Have you tried a Dunnes?
I've seen some people suggest it here and that's where I got mine (in Charlestown, Finglas - though it was over a week ago). They seem to be storing them at the customer service desk so worth going up and asking.
Anyone sees any units about in the next few days let me know 👍 tried to get on on tesco online and then got cancelled. Would be nice to get one for the weekend 👍
They were just for Christmas. Not being made anymore.
On the hunt for the 538ml cans of standard draught now, seems like only the 500s are available which is very annoying as they don't fill a pint glass no matter how they're poured.
I had a pint from the Microdraught machine over the weekend, didn't seem any better than the Nitrosurge cans to me. I actually find the Nitrosurge cans quite inconsistent and the pint from the Microdraught was like a not great Nitrosurge can. Not that anyone was actually going to buy one for €900 but you can safely steer clear of it.
Amazon UK and Ebay is filled with them for extortionate prices. I hope they get stuck with them. They must be buying them all up.
They don’t have them in Tesco online. Ordered on over the weekend and got a call just now to say they’re not available.
It can’t be this hard to keep them stocked up!
Does anyone know anywhere that has them at all? Hens teeth would be easier to find.
It isn't the best system as i put an order in last night to collect at my local tesco this morning and then got a call an hour before collection saying they have none in stock. If they could advise the store they were at the time then i could have driven and done click and collect at that store but its just pot luck.
Availability online will depend on what store services your address or what store you've selected for click & collect.
All sold out 😥
