Anyone know what is his medical exception?
Why are Serbia so proud of a tax dodging Monaco resident who wont even pay taxes in Serbia?
https://www.perfect-tennis.com/where-do-tennis-players-pay-taxes/?s=09
What is Margaret Court supposed to have done apart from hold/campaign on unpopular political views?
So is the Djokovic thing just political?
No. I was referring to his tainted legacy. Nothing political.
I don't have that insight. I think everybody knew that Djokovic was a fool rejecting the vaccine in an outspoken way and everybody knows that Australian immigration authorities are strict, but at least they could have been straight and clear and said to him in advance "We don't want you here if you're not vaccinated" and that would have been it.
They did, look:
https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/international-travel
There were more players allowed to come to Australia under medical exemptions.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-14/two-more-tennis-players-depart-australia/100756828
Surely no covid-fans will mention this trying to prenetd like Djokovic "smuggled" himself into Australia brealing every law possible.
Politics unfortunately took over law and common sense here prooving again that we live in dangerous times...
That's not how it works.
He was given a visa (presumably a work visa). Then at the border, his regular documents are checked the same as anyone else's. I think I read that he was issued his visa in Nov, before he "contracted" covid.
It was then his responsibility to turn up at the border with his other paperwork in order.
More hysteria from the Serbs...🙄
Accept it - your boy did NOT do good. Stop showing yourselves up and keep it moving.
Leader of opposition shouting about expelling the Australian ambassador from Serbia.
It's a matter of politics and diplomacy between countries now.
Serbian politicians know exactly what to say and do to win concessions, court domestic popularity and advance their interests. It's not like they're just reacting emotionally in the moment. They're not naive, they're weighing every word and they have trade deals with Australia which they can bring into play when they're seeking to be assuaged.
Compare to the average Irish person who does everything they're told and never even thinks to negotiate or ask for concessions ever.
"I'm compliant!" - average Irish person, 2022
...
I didn't reference 'Ireland' the country but the average Irish person. Yes the politicians at the top of the Irish political chain are arch manipulators but when one of these, ie Varadkar, is talking to the nation they speak almost exclusively in babytalk ('I feel your pain').
The average Irish people get a raw deal re: restrictions because they confuse non-compliance with disloyalty, they can't/won't ask for concessions and can't conceive their own interests are not always identical to their government's interests.
Probably best to leave that whatsapp group if you think that was worth posting.
I'd say there's loads! I know there's NBA players not allowed play games. Main one being Kyrie Irving. Medvedev to win it comfortably do ya reckon? Hard to pick women's maybe just Barty!
Maybe the whole competition.... not just some games...
Medved favourite. Should be him and Zverev in the final
I'd like to see Alcaraz to do well
Cressy a nice novelty 'cos he's a real serve-volleyer throwback
WTA is a lottery but winner of Barty / Osaka in Round 4 has a good chance.
(not sure if this is the correct forum lol, like how many people on this thread actually know anything about tennis)
I'd never heard of conspirituality before. Sounds nuts. Literally.
https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/conspirituality-the-radicalisation-of-wellness-advocate-novak-djokovic-1.4775605
It doesn't matter, if the courts sided with him in that he'd still have been kicked out for his lies.
Thought they'd keep quiet considering it looks like they faked his positive test result
Complete bull crap my friend.
your posts are couched in language which tries to imply that you ‘know more’ than the average poster here.
you try to denigrate the Irish people as compliant wimps when in reality unlike some posting here they can see the big picture and have the common sense to largely comply.
Unfortunately there will always be those headbangers from the squats who try to make themselves relevant, and try to give the impression that they have some kind of ‘inside information’ on events.
Djokovic is quite entitled to be anti-vac if he pleases, but the mistake he made was waltzing down to Australia and expecting to welcomed with open arm by a population who had fought the virus for two years at great sacrifice to themselves.
Lets put it this way, the Australian people stood up and told this lad to ‘get on yer bike’…..
To be fair, it's not like other countries don't fawn over their own world champions. Most countries, including Ireland and the UK, bend over backwards when they have one of the top competitors in a sport as a citizen.
We tend to be pretty quick to distance ourselves when controversy pops up; like Michelle Smith and McGregor; but that's more of a cultural thing. The Brits and the Americans lose their **** when their sports stars are disrespected, and I could certainly see them doing exactly what the Serbs have done if this was Andy Murray or Tiger Woods.
Absolutely right. If you listen to the Tainted Gold podcast about Michelle Smith, many journalists and Irish people at the time strongly defended her when American athletes and journalists questioned her integrity.
People suggesting 'we live in dangerous times' don't seem to have a grasp of what dangerous times are. Get s grip.
I think there's a difference between Irish people expressing views supportive of Irish sports stars who are being criticised or attacked, and the Serbian government expressing support for Djokovic, and/or attempting to exert diplomatic pressure in his favour.
It’s a while since I listened to the podcast, but I’m almost certain she had Government support and a open top bus parade down O’Connell street (weather affected) while articles were being written about her being a drug cheat.
Besides which, the question asked was why are Serbia so proud of him even though he doesn’t pay tax/reside in Serbia, not why did they exert diplomatic pressure in his favour. The answer of course is that he is the best in the world at his sport, and Governments/people love to be associated with success, that is why the first thing handed at the airport to a returning successful athlete is? A flag.
Yeah. Like there is talk 9f expelling the Australian ambassador.
This is 100% incorrect, in tennis alone there have been players banned for match fixing.
Within the NBA players are unable to play if they are unvaccinated in some states.
I read a unique article recently about an NBA player who plays for NY. He can’t play their home games because he is unvaxed, but can play in away games in states where vax for indoor events is not required. So his team has to pay him his full multimillion dollar salary even though he is only available for some games as a result of his decision on vaccination. Mad stuff.
Oh yeah it is the latest thing out of the US.
You have a huge level of nutjobs out there now that gobble up conspiracy theories.
In the old days it wa just the JFK and the Grassy Knoll, the moon landings, the Rothschilds.
But they have been left in the halfpenny stakes by the Trump election steal, the fact Biden is not in White Hosue but in Hollywood studio, flatearthers and all airlines/pilots/shippers/captains are in on it, the covid vaccine nanobots, 5G, etc.
Ah Danny has joined the debate I see.
BTW never thought I would find Erwin Rommel quoted in a thread about modern day tennis prima donnas and covid.
F1 looks like it is going to be mandatory vaccinations for 2022.
Indycar has 90% plus vaccinated since last year.
Nascar on the other hand is, well just look at it's makeup would probably give the answer.
Although Bubba Wallace one of it's most well known driver sis pro vaccine.
Then again he is black so probably not a Trump fan. 😉
Lique 1 players have to vaccinated
Serie A players have to be vaccinated.
Of course that is not going to happen in Premier League as the UK economy would collapse according to some. 🙄
Jaysus there have been some right loopy posts in this thread.
BTW didn't Macron announced last month that from Jan 15th all professional sports people in the country have to be fully, doubly vaccinated.
So how will that affect old Novax and the French Open?
"your posts are couched in language which tries to imply that you ‘know more’ than the average poster here."
Huh? I just use whatever language springs to mind to express myself.
My posts are provocative because I'm trying to get a radically different point of view across which I know isn't something anyone wants to think about.
