Anyone know what is his medical exception?
Because he went through every Avenue and won his case. He fought for his right to play. He didn’t just buy it.
the minister acting at the last minute was way OTT and nothing but politics.
Hardly a fair choice if one option has lots of punitive measures (such as being a social outcast and unable to work) and the other doesn't.
All the Nadal and Federer fans rejoice because the only way of their man having any chance of statistically becoming the GOAT is if Novak gets ousted by every grand slam organiser for the next 5 years.
The tennis community is hilarious. The most hated man will end up being the GOAT which will drive them all insane clinging to the only thing they have left which will be “well he doesn’t play the nicest tennis” etc..
For me Djokovic is far more likeabke than Nadal. Federer is my favorite of the 3 but can’t stand Nadal.
But he lied/provided a falsehoods in his declarations while travelling through those Avenues. He won a case, to stay, not to play in Court.
Are you surprised that politicians actions are based on political considerations? You have to bear in mind that there was considerable opposition from the Australian public to ND entering the country. It would be naive to think politicians are not sensitive to the rumblings of their electorate.
You wanna bet he bought his doctor's cert stating he had covid at the most convenient time possible in order to gain access into Australia ?
If Djokovic was allowed to stay what was to stop any other unvaccinated person entering Australia with just a recent positive PCR test?
The Australian government have to look at the bigger picture and not just at Novak Djokovic.
Why couldn't an alternative option for unvaccinated people be allowed? Quarantine and regular testing. Im sure if this had been posed to Djokovic and others they would been happy to do so. This is what happened last year and there were no problems then. People are gloating over this decision, but look at the bigger picture here...people's civil rights are being stripped over whether or not they choose to have an injection. Why did it have to be a vaccine or else situation? He was only coming here for 3 weeks to play tennis.
What's unfair about it? Act in a way that makes you a pariah ... be a pariah. Is it unfair to punish drunk drivers? They also put other people at risk and put a burden on hospitals. Is punishing them "unfair" too?
That's what choices tend to be. Weighing up pros and cons.
He made his choice, there are implications.
Christ this isn't rocket science.
I'm not sure if you're actually serious but he'd have the same problem there except he probably wouldn't get past the airport.
You choose to be a social outcast by going against 95% of the society and jeopardise their health in the process
You do realise that both vaccinated and unvaccinated are spreading this virus? Why should someone be a social outcast if they choose not to be vaccinated and let their own healthy immune system deal with the virus instead? You are saying they have the right to choose but if they don't choose the 'right' option they should be cast out of society...that's just ridiculous!
It’s a civil right not to enter Australia?
When did that happen?
Delighted that this very bad person finally gets his comeuppance.
Dismayed that the far right wing, conspiracy theorists and other assorted failures looking for someone to blame for their own inadequacies now have a new totem to rally around.
Not talking about entry to Australia but not being able to do the following everyday things...
Ok but why is his behaviour of going out in public a day after receiving a covid positive test excusable to you?
What's ridiculous is, during a pandemic, expecting to be able to break the rules that a huge majority of people are supportive of, because of your own pet theory about what is or isn't safe. You might be right and everyone else wrong. But that's not how society works. If you can't persuade the rest of us that someone who voluntarily decides not to vaccinate shouldn't face some social restrictions, then you just have to suck it up.
Nonsense. Absolutely no damage/change to their visa system had the minister done the right thing and stayed out of it.
All these arguments are red herrings to try hide/justify that people simply like those in successful and powerful positions to fail.
Are people in Australia not free to choose whether they have a vaccine? I wasn’t aware that right had been stripped away.
I've no issue with his decision to be unvaccinated
Was always going to cause problems though for him
I think you meant to insert the word “not” here in relation to politicians being sensitive to….?
Lol yes, western society is renowned for its harsh treatment of the rich.
The only reason this is such a big story is that for once, the rich famous guy had to follow the rules as the rest of us.
People are free to choose but there are vaccine mandates in many workplaces and very punitive measures in some states if you choose not to get vaccinated.
You have a right to choose but you cannot dictate the reaction of the other 95 % of the population who sees their healthcare impacted by the over representation of unvaccinated people in hospitals impacting their care ... you do understand this simple concept right?
Why is it ok that he put peoples lives in danger by not isolating?
You seem to have missed this point first time out.
The unvaccinated have a dissporportionate effect on the numbers in hospitals and ICUs.
I respect people's right to choose but I don't think they should be punished for it. I'm fully vaxxed btw
How many of them are young professional athletes?
And to be frank, I've no issue with people making that decision either.
