Honestly though, I won't believe it until he's gone. The judge blatantly waited as long as possible to give Djokovic the least amount of time possible to prepare an appeal. Could that help him somehow get the decision overturned? But for now at least, seems like he's going.
The reason given was
"protecting Australian sacrifices"

Hearing in Federal Circuit Court set for 8:45pm (Australian Time)
And in breaking news, a directions hearing will be conducted tonight at 8:45pm before Judge Anthony Kelly in the Federal Circuit Court.
"the rules of natural justice do not apply to decisions made under s 133C(3). This means that while Djokovic still has the right to challenge Hawke’s decision, he can only do so on narrower grounds. Specifically, his scope to argue that the decision is unfair is reduced."
The Australian Lawyers Alliance has released a statement saying that the government’s decision highlights Australia’s “arbitrary and unfair border policies”.
Nicholas Wood has proposed he will make submissions by midday Saturday, with the minister’s to follow by 10pm tomorrow, ready for a hearing on Sunday.
Wood says:
Mr Djokovic may be scheduled to play on Monday night or Tuesday night ... In those circumstances we’re very concerned about time.
Wood is blaming the government for giving the decision “shortly after 6pm on a Friday”, four days after the federal circuit court decision and more than a week after the original decision. He’s laying into media reporting that the immigration minister, Alex Hawke, was “burdened” by lengthy submissions from Djokovic.
Wood says Alex Hawke’s reasons stand in “stark contrast” to the ones used by the Border Force delegate.
He said:
The delegate said Mr Djokovic may infect other people because he’s unvaccinated. The present set of reasons is starkly different. The minister assumes in Mr Djokovic’s favour every single fact that might have been in issue previously, that he’s complied with the law, that he poses only a negligible risk to others, Mr Djokovic has a medical reason not to be vaccinated, and that Mr Djokovic is of good standing.
Wood says the central thrust of the case is that Hawke had a “binary” decision: that Mr Djokovic could stay in Melbourne leading to potential “excitement” in the anti-vax community; versus the forceable removal of a man of good standing who has a medical contraindication.
Wood says there is a “clear jurisdictional error” of “irrationality” in that the ground of “exciting anti-vax sentiment” is premised on Djokovic only having that impact if he remains in Australia.
“He has no rational basis to say” Djokovic staying would cause more anti-vax sentiment, Wood submitted.
Bit rich for anyone supporting Novak to complain about shady behaviour, after everything he has done to circumvent the rules.

I can't see the judge finding in his favour this time. I don't think Alex Hawke would have used his 133 powers to deport him if there was any risk of losing a 2nd case. They've had all week to choose this course of action.
If Djokovic wins the case can it be appealed or is that the end of it regardless of the outcome ?
little chance of winning as the 133c law basically allows for

best hope is to get some sort of injunction - until after the tournament is over.

Would say at this point the outcome of the appeal will be the end of it. If he wins he’ll play in the tournament and he will be very difficult to get rid of at that point.
But I’d be very surprised if it’s overturned.
It was cited that the Ministerial power couldn't be challenged in court, but now that doesn't seem to be.
mind wandering here, but what if he appeals to get a stay to the deportation, is allowed to remain 'at large' during the appeal process, manages to win the tournament but then looses the appeal. he would have been in the country illegally and whomever he bet in the final could try to claim the title on the bases that he has bene playing against an illegal immigrant...
yes there is mention of Djokovic being taken back "into detention" tomorrow morning after they interview him
his legal team would need to get an injunction that delays the action and keeps him out of detention
but the loser of a hypothetical tennis match claiming that he should have the title - no - that is crazy loose thinking imo - that player would be a laughing stock on tour!

It is indeed. Tbh I think I'd almost take him winning the title here than getting to the QF's in Melbourne and getting destroyed in three by a top ten seed.
Kokkinakis also into the final of Adelaide after reaching the semi's last week at the same venue. Would like to see him win his debut title and get a bit of form going.
Tbf to Murray he's been still taking the odd set of big names but yeah he'd be knackered by a round 4 or quarter anyway
I'd expect Karatsev to beat him but he's not a huge favourite.

Kokkinakis gets his first title, and at home. Saw a bit of him against Cillic, and he was playing some brilliant tennis.
Was the Murray match on Prime? I read it was supposed to be on Prime UK but I couldn't find it. Are we getting shafted in Ireland or is their search function just being absolutely brutal again?
We usually get the thin end of the wedge with Amazon with football and tennis. TennisTV (If you sign up in £stg, not €) works out pretty good value for the year, and covers most ATP events, but not slams.
Unfortunate story about Del Potro
His father, who died at the start of 2021 (after not recovering from a heart operation the previous month), had apparently taken/lost/stolen the vast majority of Del Potro's assets (30 million dollars)
now he still has a few million left so he's not on the streets and surely has some sponsorship etc as he has value there still but quite sad - loses his father then finds out this after (or so it sounds like)
