Anyone know what is his medical exception?
If he got sick I'm sure he'd leave and be taken care of by his own medical team elsewhere
Why would you think that? What has he done recently to demonstrate that he gives a single shimmering, shiny fook about anyone or anything else other than his own personal interests?
And that's even if he did have Covid. Because, let's face facts here.......the reality is either:
a) he DID have it, and knowingly met with a whole load of people, including a load of kids for a photo op or
b) he didn't have it, and got the powers that be to falsify his records to show this
Either are grounds for refusal, and both of them make a mockery of your assumption that he would 'do the right thing'. He has been given ample opportunity to do so while the focus of the world was not on him. Now that it is, any claims that he'll turn over a new leaf should be met with derision.
Honestly, Australian border controls are renowned for being one of the strictest in the world. I do agree the declaration if done in 2016 may not be so much of an issue, but looking at this objectively, there's a lot more than just the declaration form that has been considered, yes I accept the vaccine stance also in the mix, my entire argument has been the shenanigans that occurred, the wink and nod so to speak, I've Honestly stayed clear of the Covid angle.
So well argued..that's me convinced.
Thats it. The mob think the end justifies the means.
Even go back to the OP of this thread. "whats his medical exemption"?
52 pages later everyone is happy that he was booted out because he didn't mention he was in Spain within x amount of time of entering Australia.
Well done everyone, the big bad bogeyman has been GOTCHA'D.
Not kicked out for anything covid related (which is the whole point of this yeah?).
Rather kicked out for not mentioning all his movements. His PCR hasn't been proven as fake.
They got him, but they got him for all the wrong reasons.
Telling you, it’s simply people salivating because someone famous and successful and talented is getting shafted.
People hiding behind “rules apply to all” nonsense. World is full of this
The ire against Australia is a deflection from the fact that all the remaining tennis players complied with the rules and can play. There is only one person who is responsible for this mess and who should be blamed, and that is of course boof-head himself. Double fault - game, set, and match.
Djokovic is to blame for this whole imbroglio, not Australia. Had he tried to ignore the laws against illegal drugs and tried to smuggle 100g of cocaine in his briefs, he wouldn't be playing and it would be his fault. I would support such a decision, even though I think the war on drugs is more stupid than some of the covid stuff.
People shouldn't be using this as a pro-anti Covid measures cause célèbre, it's about a country having visa requirements and somone choosing to give the finger to them.
He should just have got vaccinated like the rest of us.
he lied on a visa application. it wasn't a slip of the pen.
I don't really understand the "delighted" and "great news" comments regarding this?
Was Djokovic particularly disliked or hated before this or does his expulsion open an opportunity for an Irish tennis player to enter or win the tournament?
As far as I can tell there's a tennis player on the other side of the world who followed a process to get exemption for entry into Australia and he travelled expecting to enter the country. He was denied entry at first but then a court ordered that he be released from detainment and that he not be deported. Then the government took the unusual step of taking the "management reserves the right to refuse entry for any reason" approach, which seems like a very rare occurrence, just so he could actually be deported anyway.
Why are people are "delighted" about this? I think sportspeople have generally been allowed to travel and get exemptions for most of the pandemic? It's not like we are talking about a murderer or other criminal who is being extradited after a long legal battle. He's a tennis player. Seems like it would have been easy to just let him play?
Maybe a sad reflection on us that a sportsperson who isn't even Irish being deported from a country on the other side of the world is a "win" for some people?
I would have very little time for Australians or Australia in general, but this is tremendous news. People who aren’t vaccinated are entitled to their conspiracy theory opinions, but they also put others at risk and need to feel the consequences of their actions.
he lied on his visa application. he thought he was above the rules that applied to everybody else.
Do you have actual proof that he lied?
you do know what lying is? It’s not just a mistake. It’s deliberately deceiving people.
He and his team said this was an error made on a form.
oh dear.
Why would people in Ireland be "delighted" or really happy about that though? Just a case of people enjoying seeing a famous person being brought low?
Exactly what this is…
same with any other people of success and influence and power.
That's what it feels like to me.
And I recall this fella got plenty of support on these shores.
Yes, he was disliked by a lot of people who are tennis fans before this. The line judge incident at the US Open, his preachy personal beliefs, and, more recently, the tournament he held that turned into a super spreader event in 2020. More than enough reasons, even if he is an unbelievable tennis player.
He’s a dickhead but irrespective of that, he doesn’t meet the criteria and lied on his visa application. G’luck.
Seriously, did the Australians have the option to use common sense based off all the facts and information. The minister did not have to act here.
they absolutely did. And they chose to use their sledgehammer here. They were so exasperated that he won his case, that they could not let it go.
Chap is there 2 weeks or so, ready to go, in the draw, and will be off your territory shortly. But rather than use common sense and common decency, they slammed him to appease the mob.
why do different rules apply to him?
Why is the idea that the rules should apply to all nonsense? Do you think that wealthy/powerful/famous people should generally be allowed to flout the rules?
They have discretion here within the rules. They chose to act way OTT. They could have allowed him remain based off this clerical error.
he omitted information that would have led to his visa being refused. that is not a clerical error.
Yup, bitter twisted little sad folk......
Burn the witch, burn the witch.....
Nonsense. I am not advocating this at all. The chap won his case in court. The Aussies couldn’t accept this, and the minister decided to shaft him. They did not use discretion and common sense that was there to use.
'Clerical error' 😂
Are you calling him/team liars?
It's all a bit pathetic really on all sides, Tennis is the real loser but the mob rule sort of made it impossible for Novak to play, and on his side he should have managed it better there's no question about that either. There's no winners here.
If you or I had done the same, do you think the Australians would have let us in?
In my opinion, as much as we hate to admit it, they kind of do for a couple of reasons.
He is a man of considerable means, and will not be a sponger on their welfare system.
He is of world renown not a jihadi masquerading as a tennis player.
He clearly is only only going to stay for a couple of weeks. It's not permanent immigration.
He played there last year unvaxxed like every other player.
The mob want him to be treated the same as the bricklayer from Cabra......but that's a bit silly isn't it.
