Jan. 4—ATHENS — A gene that causes bacteria to be resistant to one of the world's most important antibiotics, colistin, has been detected in sewer water in Georgia. The presence of the MCR-9 gene is a major concern for public health because it causes antimicrobial resistance, a problem that the World Health Organization has declared "one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity."
Oh boy.
It was previously believed that agriculture was a driving factor in the spread of MCR. Nations such as China and India use the colistin antibiotic in livestock
Everyone in Georgia to poo in a sample pot them I guess
Never mind Georgia Sewage
Whatever happened to Georgia Salpa? Her off the back of the bus
I confess i wondered who Georgia Sewage was as well. I blame the wine, it's in a mug,so there is no pretension about it.
Never heard of it but have long heard about the jaw dropping abuse of anti biotics in India and China in human and animal medicine.
So negligent that they should not have been allowed use them.
The abuse and mismanagement of antibiotics is going to be a serious killer this century.
Americans love poisoning their own people.
30% of antibiotics are misprescribed by doctors. A lot of doctors have knowingly prescribed antibiotics where none are needed or even functional. This really has to stop before resistance builds to irreversible levels.
This is a valid question!? She was everywhere in the mid 2000s.
