    Katie is properly sensitive.

    unlike her overpaid colleague

Glad it's Katie for this topic. Don't think I could listen to Joe sighing, hmmming and hawwwwing with callers.

Don't mention the 2 youths stabbed in Blancharstown yesterday whatever you do.

No Joe today but I agree with your point. A bit too raw to be discussing /speculating over this tragic case when the poor woman's friends/colleagues/students are still trying to come to terms with it

First caller was called by the show. Caller driven, my arse

And off we go... men bashing.

Sooner this is sub-judice, the better.

I got in trouble on Twitter for flippantly suggesting men might be afraid of likes of me 😱

Genuine question what is the solution?

I would guess tough sentences for violent crimes?

This woman seems to have much deeper issues to deal with: "I've been afraid of men all my life"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,109 ✭✭✭✭lertsnim

    This woman needs professional help.

It would be gold if the suspect was once a woman but had transitioned so to speak, that would through the cat amongst the pigeons.

    Outrageous nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,817 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Men aren't asleep...I have been a victim of a random violent crime...so I am in a similar boat. I wouldn't go out after dark for a year and am still pretty nervous now.

Dee gave him a phone call.

Actually just wondering if Joe’s daughter knew the girl, being a young teacher. Could well be the case.

I'd like to point out that, as a young man, I was dead leary of walking through certain parts of town at night, because of gang and random violence. I knew several who'd got pasted, but luckily avoided it myself.

There was the odd murder too, of random strangers.

Nothing like this case, but it's not like people are making out, that men aren't wary or at risk.

I am a woman - to say this lady is afraid of all men is pathetic. I would be fuming if I was a man listening to this.

Very very few men murder women.

I just don't know but this Tradegy is quickly and predictably turning into Every Women is not safe in society debate, one thing that I can predict is, Irish Media will have moved on by tomorrow.

    Oh damn.

I must remember not to murder all the women I see on the way homw.

All the blokes I work are all murdering and raping women hating scumbags as well.

We all hate our mothers, sisters daughters nieces and all of our other female relatives, colleagues and female friends.

Perhaps a 3 strikes campaign where if you commit any crime 3 times you are given a mandatory 5 year sentence. I'd also support much more stop and search for knives, perhaps give Gardai handheld metal detectors to check people without intimate search required.

Actually, didn't think about that but I think his Daughters older 🤔

If Tullamore cases get discussed.....the huge number of people in Ireland having severe mental health issues, state of our Mental health services, cutbacks, Covid etc. probably won't get a mention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,109 ✭✭✭✭lertsnim

The statistics are wrong because she thinks they're wrong. It is wrong having this hyperbolic bullshit on the national airwaves. Some level headed discussion is needed.

A statement of sympathy should be issued at beginning of show as a mark of respect, then the subject allowed to rest in dignity until the Gardaí progress it a bit more. Allow the news articles deal with developments, but it’s too much for Liveline to handle at this emotive stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,817 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    It is all so predictable.

    It is rare....

People get attacked. I am not sure of the stats of men attacked versus women. It's horrible and something incredibly hard to police I would say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,199 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

And it's also worth noting most women murdered by people they know. As appalling as this story is, it was random and whilst not in anyway wishing to minimise the shocking loss, if it were a Man murdered would this story even get a mention in the headlines.
