Can you please join me in welcoming @Jonathan and @DrPhilG as the new mods of the renewable energies forum?
They are both currently very involved with the forum so are well placed to look after its needs.
Thanks for signing up lads
Welcome folks
Ah great someone visible that we can abuse when things go wrong🤣.
First order of business lads... The Charter!
And congrats.. 🍷
Nice one. About time we got some more here
Enough with the chit chat, when do I get issued with the tools of the trade??? Only reason I signed up.
You've obviously not worthy yet
Noted...
The new version cant ban people seemingly
How do you have so much time to be here and on FB.
Is the Charter done yet?
This is excellent news ... congrats to both of you
No banhammer? Booooo.
Just kidding. I'm off work for another few weeks so plenty of time to irritate the scammers of the PV industry lol.
Looking forward to it😁
What's happened @Jonathan.? 2 days a mod and he's not posted a witty comment.
Maybe he's availing of the mod perks at the office😂
Is that your Mjölnir hammer and if yes is it run off PV or day/night rate?
Welcome to both of you.
Welcome folks, two knowledgeable additions no doubt.
Agreed - two (relatively) well balanced individuals who'll do well in this space. Congratulations gents. One comment/direction I'd comment on, things are generally working well. Sure we have a few annoyances which we can improve on, but no need to do massive changes here.
Great to have the ability to setup and edit stickies, etc.
No changes are planned (apart from general tidy up of the charter and stickies). Just keep things running as they are and promote renewable energies. 🙂
And update the Charter.... Dont forget to update the Charter 👍😁
What updates are you looking for?
I think a general discussion is needed by the group to agree what we want.
On that list should be the naming of companies we've used.
Well I can give you an update on the companies bit, as I've spoken with @Jonathan about it.
The rule on naming companies is staying in place. As you probably know I've been on the other side of the debate myself, but we don't have free reign here. Boards.ie has indicated that they have to be clear of any accusations of slander, and naming companies would inevitably lead to that happening.
For example if we all stated our feelings about one particular company who are known for ripping people off, then that installer could go after boards for allowing them to be bad mouthed.
Facebook is a different issue, it's an open platform and they can't be held liable for what is said. Boards.ie can.
Therefore as much as I don't really like it, naming of companies is still restricted to PMs (when requested).
I actually think that makes a lot of sense, not even so much on the slander side (although that in itself is a good enough reason) but rather we all have different experiences with suppliers. Some of that is down to the individuals themselves. Often one customer will "gel" with a supplier more than another and have a bit of banter on the phone, they'll get a good service - while others may not, while not doing anything "wrong" per say. Also sometimes things go wrong for various reasons, through no fault of the supplier - and then of course, there's the (ever present) pricks around for customers!
So two people may come away with two different impressions of the same supplier. We saw this recently where someone was bad mouthing a particular supplier for being unresponsive and downright lazy in answering emails/phone. A supplier who is generally regarded as good. I don't blame them either as since that was the only point of reference they had....why wouldn't they formulate that opinion? The problem is that while it was an isolated case, if others are then reading this exchange, it negatively flavors others opinions......perhaps unfairly.
Best thing. Leave the names out and continue on as is. People know who the shisters are - and there's enough here to make sure that anyone who comes looking isn't ripped off.
The company names, should members wish to list them and Boards.ie are OK with their inclusion, should be kept to the installation details (Solar Peformance thread) spreadsheet just as a column of information that is not on thread to spark any comment/ discussion. Inclusion within the spreadsheet infers no recommendation per se. This allows members seeking this (critical) info to check the spreadsheet and PM those who used said installer - keeps discussion off any thread and only within PM's, but allows easy link to an installer name and members who used their services.
If that's not OK we lynch the mods and go full wild west in here.
An we not just lynch them anyway? Or maybe just rob their coke 🤣🤣
Did we ever find out what happened the last 2?
@Jonathan and I beheaded them as part of our initiation. Highlander style.
We have a problem captain.... There can be only one ⚔️
Hah! Bans are well and truly on the menu these days. You;re right in saying the new platform didnt provide for such a harrowing experience but a few tweaks were implemented a couple of months back so all is good again.
All we need now is the return of prison and all will be well with the world.
I miss viewing those poor miscreants in the stocks getting ritually humiliated by whatever despot was roaming the corridors of power at the time.
Can we either sticky this thread: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058226422/we-need-faq#latest or publish a link to the FAQ?
Apologies, I dropped the ball on this. I'm away for a few days so only on mobile. If @DrPhilG doesn't beat me to it, I'll do it when I'm back on the desktop later in the week.
Sorry I'm away for a few days too lol.
Enjoying Storm Franklin in Portrush...
Typical. The pair of you only in the job a wet week and you're off on holidays.
I knew they paid you's too much. 🤣
