Star1057 again!! Every day is like the weekend at the moment. Nothing from the Energy Power AM guys the last few days.
its basically dead now with just the same few low power and weekend operators.
i wouldn't be expecting more then that in the near future to be honest.
Got a daily report for us Declan A. ?
I cannot guarantee that I will be anoraking all the time I am in the car, given the lack of pirates, but I did pick up something faint on 107.1 FM today. I even started listening to a CD again! Could it be RetroNow? It seemed to be dance-oriented. Later this evening, I picked up adult pop on 105.7FM - Star1057 I presume, as there was no RDS.
Good stuff Declan! Not expecting you to be doing it every day! But good you frequently report so thanks. I’ve no radio for a few days. Car battery died so waiting for new one to be put in. Thanks again
Here is what I found on the airwaves around south Dublin today January 9th 2022.
FM:
92.0 - Retro FM
94.3 - relay of Charity Radio
96.0 - ABC 80s
MW/AM:
1395 kh - Energy Power AM (relayed Retro FM during the latter's live broadcasts)
Strong signal on 99.5 in Dublin this morning with ‘Galaxy’ on the RDS. Wonder is it the same station that was coming from Kildare last year.
This is Galaxy FM Kildare (it's in the radio text) - they were operating on 99.0 until recently.
Of course, over Christmas they had to stay away from 99.5 FM because Christmas FM was beaming into Kildare and some of Dublin on that frequency. If 99.0 FM was okay for them, why not stay there? Unless, of course, 99.5 FM works better for Dublin if Galaxy are keen to get into Dublin.
True. I expect 99.5 will allow the station to travel further due to being a clearer frequency.
I’d imagine the weekend station in Dublin that’s on 99.5 that relays everything will switch on now whenever someone goes on that frequency.
that shouldnt be a problem one station broadcasting to kildare the other to dublin.
i think the kildare station intends to broadcast in to dublin as well though.
It cannot be heard in Dublin.
I briefly picked up something on 99.5 FM around the Ballinteer and Dundrum area last night. The signal was weak but I think I made out dance music.
What’s happening today Declan A?
Just saw your post!
Not much really, as far as I could hear! Note that I wasn't doing any until this evening.
105.7 FM - Star1057
107.1 FM - very weak signal - possibly dance music - my guess is Co. Meath's dance station RetroNow
1395 kh (or 215 metres if you prefer) MW - Energy Power AM
👍thanks
I've picked up Galaxy FM at some stage last week on the M50
Quite strong around blanchardstown M50 exit lost it at the airport
Spirit Radio back up and running on 549khz -- good signal on West Wales coast .
A crazy one to report here that may or may not be Sporadic E related.
I was in Mayo over the weekend and received Radio Nova on 100.3 in Mulranney at sea level. The car radio was able to get a reasonable pickup on it with some splatter but it was definitely listenable in places. No RDS mind you but I did notify the authorities as in a Nova staffer that I know.
I also got a very solid BBC Radio 1 from Westport, RDS included.
MWR was booming into the east coast on 96.1 last week also !
During Freedom FM’s run I was able to get 105.2 at the M6 toll in the car. The car hadn’t switched to their Galway frequency yet. On another occasion I also got Nova on 100.3 up in Whitehead.
There was very good tropospheric ducting conditions last week, yesterday too.
Very good forecast site here - https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html
As a matter of interest, what frequency was Radio 1 coming in on in Westport?
Don't know if it's been posted, but Spirit Radio on 549 AM seems on air again.
Yes -- 6 posts up !!
And still there this morning .
I didn't note numbers down but you'd get a choice of 4 frequencies, most of which are locking and with similar behaviours for 2FM and Lyric.
Classic Hits at 104.9 from Galway was making a good trip southwards last night as I heard it whilst mobile near Cork city. Incidentally ucc 98.3 to Cork city was off air for a number of hours last Tuesday night, it might then have been possible to hear BBC r1 on that frequency if anyone suitably located in the area tried.
What’s happening out there today Declan A?
Here’s what I came across today around south Dublin.
91.6 FM - weak signal but I could just about make out dance music. Probably - Phever FM
96.0 FM - ABC 80s
1395kh MW - Energy Power AM
Oldies dominating in the pirate broadcasts as it has been for a while now.
