I am happy that the guard dealt with him in such a forceful manner, but there's also a bit of me that feels it was over the top. He really laid into him. It could have been two drug addicts having a fight; we don't know the circumstances. It seems like inappropriate behavior from a guard, calling him a p***y and shouting in his face. I don't know if he could have grounds for a complaint against the guards.
The Guard has probably seen all before and knows nothing would come of it if he arrested him.
You know full well what post i mean, but well done on the pretended ignorance
So your understanding of the functions practice and training of AGS is some what lacking as well as your awareness of the condition and social structure of Ireland.
You should get out into the real world some time and see what its like
It ll blow your mind fandymo
Why does he have no right ?
He isnt entitled to form an opinion of the fella based on a hell of a lot more information than you or me has , sounded like he witnessed the fella do something thats not on the video
the one where you suggested he was an abusive partner and father ? I answered that , do you mean another one ?
So the police should be able to insult and abuse people who haven't done anything to warrant arrest?
Again a reply which has nothing to do with the thread, ridiculous at this stage
Misleading thread title OP. From the description I was expecting selectively edited footage of the Garda kneeling on the guys neck.
Maybe he has. That's why I said I'd need more context before I formed a proper opinion.
But going on what we see, the policeman was acting inappropriately and was overstepping his authority.
The reason he has no right to shout abuse at somebody is the same reason I have no right to shout abuse in the face of anybody. It's aggressive and threatening behaviour.
Why is that so hard to agree with?
Is this now considered a harsh response?
Come on FFS.
No, and let's be careful here, you suggested the abuse, which i never mentioned. I suggested 'berate', which is exactly the behaviour of the guard whom you are defending the actions of.
Words are violence?
Now who is making stuff up lol
you have no idea if he was arrested or not ,
you have no idea what or what he didnt do ,
which insult do you mean ? is it and insult if its an accurate description of the person ?
as i ve alread said your intent was clear and both nasty and classless but i guess your happy with it , figures
so i have already responded to your demand for an answer but you dont like it ,
what else would you like ?
Nice to see a scumbag woman-beater get put in his place.
Also nice to see a Garda with a backbone, not afraid to call out such a coward.
I am making nothing up.
I said that from the video, the only thing it indicates is that the policeman acted unprofessionally but we are missing a lot of context.
And yes, it's an insult and unbecoming of a policeman who shouldn't be escalating a situation.
More than likly this is not the first time this garda is in this situation. Suspect may have hit/assaulted his wife/partner/girlfriend. She after asking for him not to be arrested. even if the gardai arrest him he will be released on bail within 24 hours. The woman will not testify against him so the case will fall. If you were a garda what would you do.
so you can come back to this when you have more actual information ?
often the case with law enforcement videos , edited and presented in a way that gives inaccurate viewpoint with a specific agenda in mind.
the fella seemed threatened to you ? not to me infact he made a denial at first .
you want police that have no opinions or personnel feelings
so is it more that a police man was loud and direct in giving his low opinion of some one while dealing with what appeared, given what we know to be a violent incident ?
25 seconds isnt much to form an opinion on that is it .
if anything is hard to get its that people have so little idea what goes on outside their own world
Are they?
Perhaps. Impossible to tell from the video. No idea what I'd do. That's why I wouldn't make a very good policeman. I'd find it very hard to remain professional.
I probably will never get any more information. I can only go on what I saw in this clip.
I don't want the police to have no opinions or feelings. But I do expect them to not let those feelings or opinions come to the fore when dealing with members of the public. Shouting insults is not the standard I would expect from policemen.
We don't know anything of the incident that happened before. All we know is what we see in the video. Again, I have no sympathy for any violent scumbag, but the policeman didn't exactly portray himself as an exemplary professional.
Maybe the boxer had a hearing impediment?
you said "So the police should be able to insult and abuse people who haven't done anything to warrant arrest?"
i did not say that . you made it up . that is a factually correct statement dunne
how is giving a accurate description of some one escalation ? now if he slapped him threatened him or used unnecessary force it would be different but words dont hurt , this isnt a school yard is it ? the real world has real people and some of them are bad more than you would like to think
Fair enough. That was something I said and I shouldn't have. I did forget I said that. I happily take that back.
We are obviously at odds here. I just don't think the behaviour on camera there was acceptable behaviour for a policeman. Admittedly we are missing a lot of context, but even so, I'd expect better from the police.
You obviously think differently.
That's fine too. You're being a little condescending though.
I was thinking more about this and I came back to post something similar like that. The body actions of the other Gardai, the lad himself, the Garda himself. Either they all know each other like above, or the high vis Garda wasn't involved in the arrest of this lad (the other 2 without the high vis look to be doing that). Possibly high vis Garda was dealing with this women who was allegedly hit, the extent of the injuries unknown but possibly severe, over the radio this lad (possible suspect) was spotted and high vis Garda was nearby to give him an earful.
I'm sure we'll find out soon enough once state time has been wasted investigating this.
The main problem for the garda in today's world is if the guy claims to identify as a woman and he wants to sue to garda for emotional abuse for calling him a "real man".
Real world blah blah blah. That Garda should be nowhere near the real world if he cannot control his emotions.
Garda "You call yourself a man, don't you?"
Member of Public "No, I don't."
After this interaction, the garda calls the person a p***y. The person could have a case for harassment and an action based around gender. It was completely unprofessional from the policeman.
He should be punished he’s clearly lost control and could have escalated the problem, all the other Gardai are just looking at him like he’s a loose cannon, probably like the one that shot that black guy dead in tallaght in his front garden in front of his family
No excuses for ever laying a hand on a women, however, It was also a very unprofessional and emotional garda shouting.
Regardless of circumstances, he should’ve acted more professional and level headed. Decisions, actions and duty cannot be conducted effectively if that emotional - worrying to see a garda act that way.
Again, not condoning laying a hand on anyone (especially a female) but he should’ve been arrested a questioned down at the station - not shouted at on a busy street.
If you got pulled over by a garda, for an offence such as driving 95km in an 80km zone, is the garda entitled to shout at you for what he regards as dangerous driving. Imagine having a guard roar abuse into your face and call you lots of vicious names.
It was Blanchardstown and why do you think he was a loose canon? Or is every guard that shoots someone s 'loose canon'?
