Listened to an interview on matt Cooper with a fella from the epa.it was billed as the carbon reeduction due to covid but turned quickly 8nto an attack on agriculture.one of biggest load of bollocks was the fact that international Air fuel is not counted in countries carbon but is allocated international and as far as I can basically not counted. The big problem with climate change is the counting of it and the way its allocated and currently the system is stacked against irish farming.there is no account taken of the fact alot of agriculture emissions could be described as regenerative whereas most other human activity is taking and releasing carbon stored thousands of years ago .this battle is all about how things are counted and not massive changes to farming practices and its quiet clear there is an agenda here.rarely has a radio piece incensed me so much.

Yea England is expensive, but 10k an acre in south Yorkshire verses 10k an acre in Connemara does not compare in any way shape or form. The Irony of climate change and global warming is places like northern Canada and Siberia are now turning from permafrost to very productive land. You'd buy land in them places for $50 to $100/acre

Heat pumps come up from time to time here and one of the criticisms is the temps are too low for the level of insulation in a lot of older homes.

Now there's new ones coming which will operate at higher temps equivalent to existing gas boilers which should allow for some to avoid major insulation work.

Wexford is the California of Ireland in the sunny southeast so prices would be higher.

The thing you and your <modsnip> uncaring mates don't understand is those SACs are someone's land and their owners have functionally had the land taken away from them with little or no compensation. A SAC is where the government has purloined land from someone, turned it effectively into a national asset, without compensation. What they should have done is CPO those lands, but that would have been too expensive, even though morally the right thing to do, so they just seized control and handed stewardship of those lands to Parks and Wildlife.

The greens offered nothing in government. There idea of a win is some kind of a society where everyone cycles, drives electric and spends thousands retrofitting houses while growing a few lettuce leaves in a window box.

Teagasc are as bad. A serious look at regenerative low input methods is needed to keep farms viable, encourage biodiversity and mitigate carbon emissions

What did the report from 10 years ago predict, and what actually happened? Genuine question because I don't actually know.

I do know that a report on our local town in 1992 predicted a decline in population and that the local secondary school would only need 900 places. The town, ten years later, had 1700 students in secondary and has 2900 today with 3400 predicted for 4 years time with the wave coming from primary schools in the catchment area.

Why is this relevant? In 1992 "experts" got £30,000 to write that report. I won't be reducing my herd based on that just yet. Any road, 1.5% is maybe 2 cows for me. Not the breaking of a small parish.

That seems to be a more common occurrence now on the re wilding front as for non agri buyers it's getting out of hand around here Even the bigger dairy lads are priced out now I'd say the last ten sales are non agriculture money round here with little of it needed to be borrowed
