Proper justice in the US.
Here he'd get community service.
Different in the USA- there’s more a “do the crime, do the time” form of justice. I wouldn’t like to be him. It’s partly because the justice system is so weak here and the U.K. that he ended up where he is.
No date as of yet they’re compiling a pre sentence report according to the article.
He’s in custody over there already isn’t he? No bail. If I read it correctly they (quite rightly) says he was a flight risk
That’s true when you think about it. Once he was arrested after the drunken PSNI chase he shouldn’t have been bailed to abscond at all. He should be in prison in NI cooling his heels. The bail system both here and in the UK is broken and in a way that’s partly to blame for those girls nearly being killed.
Those girls had a relatively lucky escape despite being severely injured at the time, they survived and appear to be doing much better now. Modern car safety standards saved them I’d say. A huge pick up truck coming head on for you driven by a drunken tramp at 70mph is a colossal impact.
He’s allowed make bail but it’s $10m so. Has apparently paid 10% of that but that’s still a loooong wait off.
being a massive flight risk is likely and it’s for that reason he won’t get a bail bond either.
I think they were really saved by a hero who ran out of his house and risked his own safety to pull them out of the car. Fact remains though that this guy would not have been free to go to the US to break the law in the first place had he been where he should have been, in custody in NI.
Great news!
This dirtbag got 15-30 years in prison!
Proper sentencing.
One of his victims has permanent brain damage.
<snip>
Always nice to see an update to threads you really interested in but then forgot about. 15 years, the rest of his youth, spent in state prison. Delighted for him really.
Hopefully when he steps foot back in NIRL he is arrested for going on the run and gets another 4 or 5 years.
Huge difference had it been here and 2 penalty points and 50 hours community service!
What are the chances of him applying to serve his sentence here so he can be close to family ? Happens between UK and here a bit. Does it happen between US and here at all ?
It really highlights the absurd and criminal like calls from some these rural TDs looking to have people be allowed have a couple and them get behind the wheel..
This blx deserved what he got and more.
However, we shouldn't self flagellate too much, the US is much more tolerant of drink driving than here and has a much higher rate of road fatalities. Kentucky has a population 10% less than the ROI but has 5 times the road fatalities.
True, drink driving is acceptable in much of America.
Heart breaking victim statement here.
One of the girls doesn't even recognise herself anymore.
Hopefully he'll do the full 30 years.

Acceptable to the perpetrators, but not to anyone else. Hopefully, this guy will do the full time. Sadly, he'll probably do half, with the rest off for "good behavior."
It’s illegal. Acceptable and tolerated are subjective terms.
anyway, ridiculous comparing (not that you are) 330 million people spread across 50 states and 9 or so million square kilometres to teeny tiny Ireland.
Absolutely delighted that this weasely fcuk got his comeuppance.
So glad he didn't do it here because he got a sentence that is proportionate to the crime over there.
It's a good news day.
Prison isn't always the answer but this dirtbag deserves every day he spends behind bars.
Well, somewhere where someone like this can’t hurt more people. Prison sounds about right to me for the likes a him
There great news. Wonderful to see this dangerous scumbag caged where he belongs. If the justice system here /U.K. had done it’s job in the first place this would never have happened.
Hope the girls are doing ok after their horrible ordeal.
If it was here he'd wheel out the usual excuses and probably would have walked out of court with a finger wagging from the judge, glad the victims and families got justice.
Something similar happened to my brother back in 1995, a guy who was pissed drunk crashed into him and all he got was 2 years (he got back after one year) off the road and a 75 quid fine.
Is he the wheelchair bound "comedian" fella ?
Yeah thats him, I knew he was in an accident of some sort but didn't realise a person was also killed.
I didn't know either
The amount of drunk idiots or just idiots going crazy speeds gets worse, throw the book at them
Yanks can keep him, he's no addition to this country
You’ve seen oz too?
Used him as a strap on
