If we're reacting to a pandemic then why have so many people in positions of authority acted and behaved as though there is no pandemic and ignored all of their own restrictions time and time again? Parties galore over in England (another one reported on today), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez partying away maskless in Florida while making sure to wear it in front of the cameras, numerous US governors ignoring their own rules, Neil Ferguson's affair, Matt Hancock's affair, Varadkar going to concerts, RTÉ employees partying away maskless and ignoring social distancing and so on and so forth. Do not all of those suggest that they think their own rules are unimportant and nonsense? If it were an isolated incident then you could say it was a mistake, but it has happened over and over again, and continued to happen.
Many people have flouted the rules, I know people who've had parties, people who breached rules, we all do. It's not news. However when politicians, celebrities, etc are caught doing it, it is news. Christ.

I've never heard of government ministers, congressmen, governors, and, in some cases, scientists repeatedly breaking their own rules that they make a point of saying are extremely important and that they must be followed. It surely suggests that they aren't at all worried about covid and that they aren't at all concerned about following their own rules.
And my position hasn't really changed all that much. I agree with brianhere that all, or at least 99% of the measures, are permanent. I think that will be the case in lots of European, or EU might be more accurate, countries. Especially masks and vaccine passports. I was recently in Scotland, Mask wearing was sporadic outdoors but most were compliant indoors, restaurants and bars ask you to wear a mask while not seated. Please explain how that means 99% of restrictions will be permanent as you have claimed.

Does this include working from home, not travelling more than X km from your front door, no more than X people meeting in public, no more than Y people meeting indoors, wearing masks in establishment A, not needing to wear masks in establishment B, closure of pubs, closure of gyms, needing to wear a mask to go to the loo in a pub, a Scotch Egg being a substantial meal, not being able to travel to country C, having to stay in quarantine for D days after having symptoms, having to stay in quarantine for E days after testing positive, no more that F people allowed to meet in private residences, no more than G people allowed to take part in group sports, closure of schools... etc...

They usually only get as far as the headlines. Video and pictures can sometimes hold their interest for a little longer but doesn't always help with understanding or filtering out the obvious nonsense.
