Conditions were bad and I'm not disputing that it played a part in handling errors. But some post match analysis from Peter Stringer just highlighted the utter lack of ambition on display. My after ignoring overlaps on the goal line and kicking the ball away with a 5 on 3 overlap on halfway.
Any win was a good win for munster .
ulster were awful after they scored the try and then zebo got a deserved yellow card.
the more time ticked on without ulster increasing their lead , the more scared they looked in attack.
Munster bench was far stronger then ulsters and it told in last 20 mins .
munster backplay is non existent. JVG should go . His interview before the game where he would not discuss his departure was arrogant to say the least.
did I mention ulster were awful ?
still doesn’t make up for last weeks performance
I still can’t figure out how the ball shot out to Kendellen.
It was a massive improvement on last week, and next week needs another jump in performance levels.
As a munsterfan thats a great result, its not going to have me putting the family silver on winning the cup but after all the disruption and players coming in for their first game it was great to grind out the win.
Christ that was another awful interpro. Who do I send my request to to get that 2 hours of my life back ?!
If either team had been playing a decent team this weekend then they would have got a hiding.
Munster need to ditch that clown JVG and the Ulster players need a good hiding. Cooney and Burns were dreadful at controlling that game.
I think Munster can take positives from some of the younger players tonight. Coombes was back to his best after a rusty game in Galway ast week. Hodnett, Ahern, Casey went well. Crowley looked a little nervous, but the kid has talent, he will be better for it. I'd like to try and fit more starts in for Ahern, he has bulked up now and we know he has that high-end potential.
Vermuelen was very quiet in that second half. He's looked gassed after 50 mins in the few Ulster games I've watt him play.
Cooney came off after 23 mins.....
The most misused word in rugby. Almost has its own unique meaning in describing rugby. It actually means bloated or swolen. But if you mean the game was shyte, then I agree.
I’m pretty happy after that, all things considered, but one worry for me is our maul d. Without Kleyn, we were matched back a couple of time both this week and last week.
Beirne looked good as captain. Spoke well with Adamson and led by example. He was peerless in the lineout, great on the floor and he carried a monstrous amount of ball in tight. He's the most talented Irish lock I've seen.
He's been Ireland's best second row for a while now, but the discussion always begins with Ryan plus one other. Beirne should be the first second row picked at the moment. His form is just the best at the moment.
Ulster were terrible. At the end when they needed to score and got the fk off the scrum, they should have reset and gone after the penalty but panicked with the tap and go. Happy to kick the ball away all game(badly) and it caught up with them.
Farrell really offers very little for Munster, for a 13 he creates nothing and just looks to carry everything. Yes he's a strong carrier but no creativity in his game. Coombes and Kilcoyne do a lot of carries but so many turn into arm wrestles which slow their ball down completely. Some workrate on Coombes though.
Munster deserved the win but Ulster really threw it away with awful tactics(and poor defense).
The two best locks in Ireland are Ryan and Henderson. We've had two head coaches consistently pick them ahead of Beirne.
Discounting gatland?
I'm talking about Ireland.
I stand corrected. That’s how awful Ulster were I barely remember Doak coming on.
Lads, a great win isn’t a win at home against an awful team, even if you have 14 players. Raise your standards, expect better.
You need JVG to be gone now to salvage this season while you still can. A decent team will will wipe the floor with you. Yet again bridesmaids shouldn’t be the goal for a season.
Gatland brought Beirne as a 6
the discussion always begins with Ryan plus one other.
I think that's because Ryan + Beirne/Henderson gives the best balance.
Beirne is class and brings game changing moments, but Ryan wins more lineouts, steals more lineouts, hits more rucks and makes more tackles than either Beirne or Henderson. Doesn't make for as good a highlight reel but that stuff all adds up.
Right now I'd go with Beirne and Ryan definitley.
Sure but he's a coach that picked beirne ahead of ryan. Iv no strong feeling either way their all class but why ignore gatland but use schmidt and Farrell to make a point
None of the Irish sides have been that impressive this season imo. They've all shown weaknesses. Leinster in particular don't look as well drilled this year. Could be how the season is now structured differently which leads to less game time for the second string. Covid disruptions have been problematic as well.
Fair point
But I wasn't talking about the Lions.
Agree wholeheartedly. Criminally underrated player. He's one of our few world class players.
Ah sure different sport altogether so
If you can't comprehend that I was talking about Ireland then I can't help you there.
You said the two best locks in Ireland you never said according to Ireland coaches exclusively I guess that's what you mean but it's a fairly reductive point
Maybe I was referring to a certain winger.
And thats his first game in a few weeks as well
Yeah it's pretty impressive. He seems to be able to do everything on the pitch.
