Anyone know what is his medical exception?
Djokovic was probably delighted (rightfully) that the dodgy PCR "test" came back positive on Dec 16th.
It's likely he had no symptoms or maybe a slight cold and had been testing a lot so as to get the "right result". Now that he has "recovered from Covid" (ha ha!) he might be entitled to a medical exemption.
No worse than a cold brigade?
I had a normal run of mill cold at the beginning of last month, knocked me on my backside(usually it wouldn't but my immune system has had its feet up for two years) , whilst a number of people who got covid (all of these people were reporting the same thing) that I know had essentially no symptoms at all.
So by a lot of accounts Omicron Covid isn't even as severe as a common cold. But let's keep up the pretence that everyone is in mortal danger.
This is a djoke
If that's how he thinks then it's a good thing the nutritionist didn't ask him to hold a tennis racquet instead of a piece of bread. He would have been looking for a new career.
Have you a link to where it's proven that all these stories were untrue?
"made a mistake on his visa" - widely reported - just search djokovic visa error
In fact, there was no issue with his visa at all. The reason he was turned away at the border is because he 'did not meet entry requirements' by proving his medical exemption or showing his vaccination.
(and this was only deemed the case because of the internal Australian balls-up between Federal, State and Tennis Australia. And also some other players had already been let enter into Australia with the same exemption AND the same reason of recent covid)
"didn't provide enough proof of recent covid"
had produced a positive covid test
"may have lied"
That buffoon Barnaby Joyce came out with this accusation.
"If he hasn't filled out the forms appropriately then he's taking the sovereign capacity of another nation for a joke," Joyce told the BBC's Newshour programme.
"100% someone's made a mistake and if he hasn't told the truth, then the person who's made the mistake is Mr Djokovic."
No proof anywhere that he lied on anything
This article https://sports.yahoo.com/novak-djokovics-previous-covid-19-diagnosis-not-a-valid-reason-for-exemption-at-australian-border-153538787.html mentions possibility for him to be banned from entering Australia for 3 years. In that case, I believe he is done with that tournament forever. Probably would have a terrible consequence on his future ATP ranking and career statistics.
If Djokovic's appeal fails, and his visa remains canceled, he could face a three-year ban from Australia, the Australian Border Force told the Associated Press.
On the other hand, it looks like TA screwed up things, so it would be really bad if Djokovic gets 3 year ban, due to misinformation from TA.
Some of the confusion is reportedly due to Tennis Australia, which runs the Australian Open. Tennis Australia reportedly gave incorrect information to players and staff regarding acceptable exemptions, according to the Associated Press
He's an absolute menace.
It's one thing being unvaccinated and still being considerate of those around you; wearing a mask, washing hands, respecting distance, etc... but Djokovic doesn't give a ****.
I am pleased that this story has come out because it shows that Djokovic, a brilliant tennis player, is easily led by mumbo-jumbo pseudoscience by anti-vaxxers and Covid deniers. The more concerning aspect of this story is that given his position of fame and influence, people may be easily swayed by Djokovic’s anti-vax views and thus leave themselves vulnerable and put those around them at risk. 😥
It is not right for anyone, No.1 seeded male tennis star in the world or not, to try to enter a country looking for special treatment or exemptions as they pose a risk to public health. The Aussies have made a balls up of the way the handled the affair to date.
Djokovic is Serbian: they have form for being a very hot-headed, reactionary and aggressive people as we all saw from the recent violent history of the former Yugoslavia - and they also, along with Bulgaria and Romania, have shockingly low levels of Covid vaccination cover which they may yet come to regret.
In short - Djokovic is acting the entitled dick.
that's fairly unlikely to be enforced though given that they let in other players (and some staff) into Australia with the same reason ahead of him.
Scumbaggery confirmed.
A 25 year old girl to have gotten booster before Christmas would be immunocompromised or a front line worker which leaves them susceptible to contracting covid.
He hasn't made a big show of his stance, campaigned with anti-vaxers or told anyone not to take a vaccine.
So basically you're just saying that anyone who doesn't take a vaccine for any reason is 'arrogant', 'entitled' etc. and cursing him out for it.
How does that prove that Serbs are hot-headed, reactionary and aggressive? The main aggression I'm seeing is from Irish people who can't stop effing and blinding because someone somewhere hasn't taken a vaccine.
He showed tremendous respect for Serbians in general when he went to an indoor event knowing he was covid positive. A real life stand up guy.
There have been approximately 500,000 - 1,000,000 cases of covid in Ireland since Christmas and 85 people are in ICU and it is on a downward trajectory. It's over. Relax. Omicrom, not masks and not vaccines have ended the pandemic. It's a mild cold and that's almost certainly what Djokovic had as he didn't even have symptoms. Can we please look at this rationally and get on with our lives?
From your own link:
'It is not clear whether he knew he had Covid when the pictures were taken.'
The fact that you're not waiting for the full story but jumping the gun by calling Djockovic a "scumbag" isn't great. Why do you feel its necessary to put a bad spin on circumstantial evidence against someone you don't know?
Ironically Djockovic's vaccination 'stance' has now received a thousand-fold more publicity than it would have if he'd just been allowed to fly under the radar like he wanted.
Maybe more people will become interested in homeopathic medicine now that its been publicised that the world's greatest tennis players (or one of them) is so into it.
He has said he took the covid test on 16th December, 17th this event happened. He needed to be self isolating until result.
Maybe he had no symptoms but took a routine test anyway. Like I said, you/we don't know.
Who takes routine PCRs without symptoms? What a drain on the Serbian health service.
He organised a tour last year with no protocols or distancing or any kind of crowd restrictions. Eventually a tournament was cancelled when people started testing positive. Including Djokovic.
He thinks he knows better than everyone else. Good for him. Doesn't mean everyone else has to bend over for him.
I must say I'm a bit disappointed withe the journalist. It takes the time of Djokovic's tweet (17/12) to make an impression that event with postal service happened on that day, while according to other sources it happened on 16/12 - the day of the test or test results, which wasn't clear. Also, later in the article, it is said that:
It is not clear whether he knew he had Covid when the pictures were taken.
So, maybe the guy didn't know about his infection until after these events.
Also, Voracova said:
“Apparently the Australian Tennis Association has misled us, which is annoying. I wanted to focus on tennis, not visas, quarantine. It’s really weird that I spent a week here, played a match … and then they came for me,” she said.
I know he is very, very unpopular, but all the accusations are misplaced in this case.
If I needed a covid pass to travel and knew that many people with Covid are asymptomatic then I would take a covid test to get that pass. Its the reason I have taken many antigen tests yet somehow remain negative despite my supposed increased vulnerability to infection compared to the vaccinated. To be fair I haven't had a cold, flu or any other type of illness in the last 15 years either so maybe it's just my immune system being a boss? But please continue to tell me and other people like me how I'm in danger vs a fat lad who's been vaccinated.
The person who needs to travel. It is a requirement to enter many countries, (e.g. Ireland) especially if you are not vaccinated. In that case you pay for it, it is not free. In Ireland, if you need to travel, you can purchase (I think it is 60 euro) a PCR test so you can travel abroad.
Doesn't PCR need to be within 48 hours of travel. Didn't Djokovic spend Christmas at home? So it's unlikely it was for travelling.
Another scenario is he never had covid and committed fraud to enter Oz. Maybe he should fly home before he gets charged in that case?
He's a multi-millionaire famous athlete and could be taking private tests routinely.
Or, as per the link, having been at a basketball match where people tested positive could have spurred him to take a test 'just in case' sans symptoms.
Could be any number of innocent explanations. I'd be inclined to wait for his explanation before condemnation.
If you are a close contact, you need to self isolate...
Even if recent positive counted, he only has that positive on the 16th and this was after the deadline for submitting proof for an exemption. So Australia just have to go why did you file for an exemption before you had a positive test
No....if I get Covid in Ireland then I am entitled to a covid pass saying that I have immunity just like a vaccinated person (despite so much evidence showing I would have superior immunity) regardless of whether I'm going to be flying or not. Australia has different rules I guess but getting covid and showing proof of recovery is important for getting the pass.
Whether the virus was dangerous to Djokovic or not is not the issue. It is well known that it can be dangerous to sections of society, and he had no clue who was going to be attending any event who may be at risk. The fact that people keep thinking about themselves and not those who may be at risk shows how poorly human society has developed.
