New Munster chat thread folks. warning deserved there. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=109477571#post109477571
I would have:
4 Beirne/Wycherley/Hurley/Edogbo
5 Kleyn/Jenkins/Ahern/O'Connor/Kelly
6 O'Mahony/O'Donoghue/Kendellen
7 Hodnett/Cloete/Daly
8 Coombes/O'Sullivan/Okeke
Jenkins might be good when fit but has been injured non-stop for months now, so for next season I'd expect he will be let him go and hopefully senior contracts will be given out a to both O'Connor and Kelly.
The depth at 6 and 8 is good, and players are flexible to cover 7 too.
So your take away from the Van Gran era was that he backed youth?
They're from Munster, you know the province in which the team is based. Try and be happy once in a while.
Just 3 from Limerick. really need to sort out that. as great that those numbers are its terrible that Limerick city isnt producing the numbers that it should
Another point to note is that 20 or the 23 match day squad and 13 of the 15 starters are Munster products.
There's a lesson in that he's had so many Injuries he started to regress years ago. Man's only 29
I said similar to another poster recently, but if your expectation of backing youth is playing 18 year old's against the Springboks, then the issue is with your expectation.
Munster have 7 starter's 24 or under here. By any measure that's backing youth.
Possibly so. I suspect they planned on giving him minutes of the bench last week, but with it being a 2 point game near the end, Healy's range was possibly a reason he was left on.
I like Crowley every time I see him play and have a suspicion he'll be Munster's starting 10 in the medium term.
Late to the party on this and mildly off topic but what do you think will come of Jack O'Sullivan?
I know he had a stuttering start to his career with some back to back injuries but he looked a super star at underage. Himself and Doris were neck and neck before his injury curtailed his U20 season.
He looks a really athletic player in a similar mould to Max Deegan.
I know he was just re-signed, but where would he fit in Munsters plans going forward with the likes of Coombes and JOD as the obvious choices for 8 and Kendellan and Hodnett having decent success there although both probably more suited to 7 at senior level
Great to see Crowley getting a start in a big fixture.
I wonder if this was a bit of a reaction to Ben not exactly lighting things up last week. While Crowley is still untested he certainly is capable of making things happen.
I think he's a tremendously exciting player.
22 isn't really that young at provincial level, is it? Hardly George North making his international debut against the Springboks at 18 stuff.
And that Crowley lad is starting ahead of an auld guy called Healy
1st start for 22 year old Sean French.
2nd start for 21 year old Jack Crowley.
21st start for 22 year old, Craig Casey.
4th start for 21 year old, Thomas Ahern.
40th start for 24 year old, Fineen Wycherley.
6th start for 22 year old, John Hodnett.
25th start for 24 year old, Gavin Coombes.
But Munster don't back youth.
Looks weak
Team for tomorrow evening

The ghost of Christmas yet to come
Bang on, Wray has exploited the system, probably due to relative freedom in the top 14, has refused to open the Accounts, took the punishment and they are bouncing back now, in the knowledge other clubs like Leicester/Bath/Wasps were also inducing beyond salary cap, he just found a different way as an innovative businessman, big Sarries players have not moved away
He started coaching them when they were going into their second year of junior rugby.
TMK, Jackman now coaches Bective Rangers who have dropped down to "Junior Status" but is n/a on match day due to media commitments
My understanding is it’s not just 3 years and done, there has to be some sort of application and it sounds like tier one countries will almost never benefit from the rule.
I wouldn't imagine Kleyn would be anywhere near the South Africa squad and he should never have been anywhere near an Ireland squad.
Presumably Jean Kleyn will become eligible for South Africa again in 2022 if his last cap was in 2019.
What about Graham Rowntree in the head coach role? With someone like Declan kidney in the DOR role.
I also wonder would the likes of Felix Jones be interested in coming back in a more senior role overseeing backs and attack or/defence coach??
Would be a great coup for ireland ahead of meeting south africa in the 23 WC to have him working in Ireland with his knowledge of all the South African players That could be tapped into.

The use of outside funds for a marquee manager seems uncommon alright, but I'd be surprised if hasn't happened before. It would make more sense then bringing in another marquee player at this point anyway.
As mentioned above, someone from the IRFU / Munster was onto Rog, knowing full well he's contracted for the next few years. But hey, its a case of don't ask, don't get.
I've no idea who picked up the phone to him but ROG has said he had contact and that he wasn't for moving as he'd just signed with LR.
Ive kept my powder dry on JVG since his announced departure, plenty of people have a lot to say about him but for me the next three games will leave the lasting impression in my mind on his ability as a coach. (big losses before are being slightly ignored for this - edinburgh and connacht last season)
He has a full, or as good as full squad to choose from, a home game and more internationals in the side than Ulster, a game last week that has to have focused the minds this week so A home must win game that will be tough, but must be won for next years Euro qualification.
Castres away is a tough ask, we have been there and know them, we played badly against them last time but we are a better team, the french sides are not as interested in europe this year but none of them roll over at home, this game has to yield LBP as a minimum.
Then wasps at home. Our coachless third string side was good enough to hammer them in coventry. We need to go one better with a full side and full preparation for this one.
If jvg cant get those three things done then maybe for once keith wood is right.
DeAlande and Snyman were paid for by sources outside the IRFU. Can’t really see anyone stumping up for a marquee manager.
The IRFU contracts have a get out clause built in. Not sure if that’s true for Crusaders but I doubt it. Who picked up the phone yo ROG? You’ve lost me there.
