I leave in "D" the whole time, love the smart regen (Or whatever it's called), it makes town and city driving so effortless. Almost like having adaptive cruise on, but without the abrupt power changes. Very relaxing the way the car slows up smoothly when the traffic ahead slows up.
Boy, was I glad to get away from the one pedal driving in the i3 or what! it was one of the most irritating things about the i3, having the option for one pedal driving in the id.3 is really great, I use B for town and D on the open road and I love it.
So, you don't need a software update for one pedal driving, it's there already if you want it by selecting B and D when you don't want it, on the open road for example. One pedal driving means that your foot is constantly on the throttle adjusting speed which can be tiring but not with D mode, you press the throttle when you need power and release when you don't and as KCross said, it's the most efficient way to drive because when you coast, you're using energy already used but you need to judge the road right because if you slow down too much you need to use more power to get going again, regen is fine for when you must brake but you never get back what you take out and regen is not 100% efficient.
Just tried starting a charge on an ESB charger using the We Charge App and it worked first time.
I know we worked it out before and the top tier plan at €17.99 a month to get 30c at Ionity worked out cheaper after you took more than 45kw or something like that per month.
If the app is reliable then you could split the monthly plan between two people, one use the app and one the card.
Have you driven an ID.3? You don’t need 1-pedal driving.
1-pedal is a bit outdated now to be honest. Dynamic regen is way better in terms of usability and efficiency.
haven’t heard of the 45kWh version yet. With chip shortages etc I guess they want to sell higher margin versions first. The website still says…
”You can choose from 58 kWh or 77 kWh. A smaller battery size will be made available at a later date.”
Lads, 2 questions.
Any news on one pedal driving SW update? Is it even planned? Deal breaker for a new ID3 for me.
Any news on timing of the ID3 45kWh launch?
Yeah great car love it, happy with the range, delighted to have the extra range of the 77 Kwh.
Yes it was strange whatever popped up on the screen that morning I'll never know now. Would be nice if the car could just search for available updates and download them, this push system is utter nonsense.
That’s so odd! Especially when you said it popped up that day on the screen
hafta say we are delighted with ours. Yes the range has dropped in cold weather but the preheating and heated seats and steering wheel and matrix headlights are all just awesome. I love this car.
Could have been fixed with some update or through some other hardware change.
I think it's pure random but after emailing vw they said that I'm not on the list for 2.3 until February, which will probably be the last day of Feb lol.
That was certainly a thought often brought up in the early days, but many people even without the fast flashing red light (Those with basic models) still seemed to have 12V problems. Haven't heard lately of any 12V problems, perhaps was fixed with the earlier updates.
It hasn't happened since keeping the key well away from the car, the fast flashing red light on the key fob stops flashing fast.
Who knows, might be keeping the car active enough to eventually flatten the 12v battery.
I do not own a iD3 but common sense tells me they have it limited for safety reasons.
Alarms have known to go off on windy days. With sir being blown through the vents
Question: does the fact that the ID.3 reverses simply by reversing the rotation of the motor mean that one could accelerate in reverse at the same speeds as one can going forward?😬
Asking for James Bond.
Interesting, My alarm has gone off a few times for no apparent reason. The spot I put my key is within 4 metres of the car. Also the lights come on sometimes if I walk around the front of my house with the key in my pocket!
Its on the left side of the glovebox, behind a panel that pulls out from the top. I found details on this site: https://vwts.ru/forum/topic/248724/
Fuse 19 is the 5th fuse slot down in the second full row from left - The 3rd 5amp fuse in mine (labelled below). The red wires and fuse holders are for my dashcam.
EVNotify also works on iOS.
I just got 2.3 loaded / installed yesterday. I’ve heard (so could be wrong on this) that eir is the mobile company used. I live in a desolate place for eir…
so it might be coming your way soon enough. I’ve a first edition, so they may be doing these now or it’s pure randomness
Any specific dongle
I have this in the leaf but not recognised by the ID3

If you haven't already then try get the evnotify app ( only works on Android ) and obd dongle and you can see what the battery heater is doing.
Currently, while plugged into the mains the battery heater won't pre-heat ( crazy ) only when you turn on the car after unplugging will the battery start to heat.
If pre-heating from the battery the battery will also be pre-heated along with the cabin.
My id.3 heats to 12/12 Deg C, I've read that some cars heat a lot more than this, maybe down to different software ?
I didn't notice any unusually high consumption today, after around 25 Kms driven consumption was around 25 Kwh/100 Kms as I would expect for local driving in this weather.
But you will never get near summer driving range when conditions are like the last couple of days. Just be thankful you never had the pleasure of driving a 24 Kwh Leaf with 21 Kwh usable in this weather ! 😂
Also, I've found around 5-6% of range is hidden the lower you go, so for instance at 34% reported by the car the app reported around 40%, it might even be more pronounced the lower you go. So in reality you had around 23%. The car is more accurate at higher soc but it's designed to make you get to a charger faster, the leaf did the same. If you were doing motorway run then the leaf at that speed would probably have died at around 90 Kms...........
So the moral of the story is to charge to 90% or 100% and don't worry about it, I would have given anything for that extra 20% when I had the leaf lol.
Also remember, the colder the battery gets the less Kwh it can store.
Was impressed this morning how the stock tyres handled some icy roads.
Alarm going nuts today, seems to come on when approaching the car, not when I get in for the first time but if I go to a shop for example, on approaching the car it seems to trigger the alarm. Then when I got home earlier ( still on holidays ) it went off 4 times in 30 mins.
I usually leave the key in the door as I always do and noticed the red light flashing like mad so moved the key to the kitchen and it stopped flashing and the alarm hasn't gone off since, very strange.
Might be one for people to watch, if the light on your car is flashing fast then move the key away until it stops flashing or flashing very slow, it might even be the cause of dead 12v batteries because it might be causing the car to wake or stay awake.
But, all this only started happening a few weeks ago was fine up until then, approaching the car never set it off nor leaving the key in the door as I always do or did lol.
Thanks. Where is the fuse panel and is it easy to find fuse19? Is there a way to turn the car completely off while I’m doing this?
Cripes!
our other car is an Audi quattro that we use for towing and needs to go into fields regularly but I’m glad of it in weather like this too.
Not just the VW, my leaf range was thrashed yesterday in the cold
I'll have another look when replacing the LED.
No snow out my way. Just looking out the window now.
If this keeps up it'll be a fun descent in the morning.
Winter tyres will earn their keep.
Holy sh1t, some change in consumption in the cold weather. Summer commute of 120km was taking me from 80% to more than 45%. Same drive today plus additional 20km later tonight took me from 83% to 16%! 58kwh model.
I had the same for a few days after Christmas Day. I pulled out fuse 19 for a few minutes after advice here and it was back online when I went for a drive about an hour later.
