With numbers rising is it on the cards again?
Why just not go ahead and report post without the virtue signaling
Agh sure where is the fun in that 😁
Just sitting down with a coffee now after a tough enough day. I have a headache that just won't quit.
27% of students absent and 20% of our staff out. 20% is huge when trying to organise cover and we were flat out the entire day. Not sure how many more absences we could take before we would start sending year groups home.
So happy that it's just the 2 days this week - ease us in gently!!
Very similar in our school and similar sentiments
Im glad schools are back tbh as it signals that we are ready as a country to move on .
However a delay till Monday would have alleviated a lot of stress on a lot of people .
Great news especially for those nervous and shy workers
This is over and you should rejoice
We had over 200 kids out but only a handful of teachers out thankfully. All of the kids at home are going to miss out on a lot. I'm not sure how best to help them.
When you're having a shootout with the bugs you might try to nail that shaggin' virus as well.
Wow! What percentage of your numbers is that 200?
I have to say, engagement from students who are out isolating is really, really poor. For an age cohort who the virus apparently doesn't affect, what are they at when they're at home one wonders??
We had 50% of the student cohort out today (almost on the nose) had 10% of staff out and I know two of those (staff)weren't covid related.
About a third of our kids. Yes our isolating students aren't great at engaging at all! I'd very few 6th years so I'm most concerned for them.
I totally understand and I don't mean to sound so cruel, but if they're not helping themselves, there's not much you can do. Of course there will be the odd few who are genuinely too sick to do the work, but other than that I would try not to get stressed about it. You're turning up, you're doing your best and I'm sure you guys are sending or streaming work home to those isolating. We don't have the magic wands they or their parents think we have.
There was a principal on newstalk this afternoon and he believed that today will be the best day for the next two weeks. He foresees an increase in absent staff and students day by day.
We had 40% of students out and close to 20% of students.
I fired up a livestream on Teams for each class but no one joined in. When i finished each class I posted up what I had covered in each class.
I also took an extra class under the new additional substitution arrangement.
One thing for sure, I'm bringing in a fan heater for my classroom tomorrow
Did he have a solution or just default to " closing the schools"?
Alternating days for groups.
So closures in reality for different groups on different days. Im of the opinion that we aboned wide scale pcr testing amd antigen testing. Unless you are exceptionally unwell go to work. Omicron in triple vaxxed isnt a serious illness. A mild head cold is what we understand of it.
Ah now i see what your angle is. Ok.
With your head that deep in the sand you cannot see a thing!
Youre suggestion to stop pcr testing and antigen etc, is not only luderious but also dangerous. This is still an ever changing virus and threat. While Omicron looks to be a milder form of the virus this pandemic is not over yet according to the leading experts. The government isnt carrying out all the testing for fun it's costing The State and absolute fortune.
Does anybody actually expect anything from TUI? I know better at this stage.
In the not too distant future PCR testing will be wound down, they will probably only test people being admitted to hospital to help determine what treatment is required. The virus is continuously changing, but PCR testing doesn't tell you that. We would need to actually sequence the genomes of virus samples in the population to know if new variants are appearing. We don't do this at the moment as far as I am aware. It isn't required to sequence the genome to determine if it is delta or omicron, that is done by checking if certain mutations are present rather than sequencing the whole thing.
Will there be any meaningful learning in most schools this month?
We are so lucky Omicron is mild what if something deadly had come along, with the measures we have is schools we'd all be f1cked. We need to take this as a warning and have better masks in schools, HEPA filters and antigen testing
Yes, of course there will be. Why wouldn't there be?
Okay I'm sure there will be some but with so much disruption I'm thinking it will be hard for kids to settle down to study.
I just have the impression Norma & co were desperate to get the schools open on the appointed no matter how chaotic a manner to avoid the headaches of cancelled junior certs, predictive grades etc.
That was certainly the clear intention but I'm not sure they'll avoid predicted grades though. Essentially January is a write-off in the context of proper progress with so many missing especially with mock exams looming.
Yeah, of course, especially when it's sure to be followed along by other variants.
They'll wait to see what ASTI say first, then offer up a token nod towards it.
.
The teachers in my boys school have actually been showing up and doing their job
Most classes missing 10%
Paints a more realistic picture of what's going on
