Agreed. This has annoyed me a bit in the media who are going a bit sensational when reporting old vs new prices. They're using the extremely low Christmas pricing which is available one month of the year. Saw a slab of Bud described as going from 15 to 40 quid when for 10 months of the year a slab of bud is 25 or 30 probably.

It's not the worst. I'm only really going to notice it with slabs (RIP) a Christmas. September I was paying 14 euro for 8 Heineken in Lidl. Today I'm paying 16. Similar with Guinness.

I was in Dunnes today for groceries and even though I didn't need anything I entered "the house of fun" through the swing doors just for a nosey.
It's really bad what has happened to the price of ordinary drinks bought by ordinary people.

As in the 1980`s people will travel north for booze and then decide to do their grocery shopping also. Will make it a family day out and go for a meal and perhaps an overnight.

I think Frank underestimates how much pocket money a 13 year old gets. Maybe he should, you know, make it illegal to sell alcohol to children?
There doesnt appear to be a straight forward way out of it. One would hope that common sense would prevail but its doubtful. Publicans seem to be of the opinion that we will all rush back. That wont be the case. 15 pints is about 90 quid in my local give or take. So do the Math.
I'm not against tackling the overly cheap sale of alcohol per say. But this is just arbritrary. No reason why single units should not have been tackled on their own. Like say a single can or anything less than 8 cans cant be sold below a certain price. Slabs at Christmas etc should have been left at 24 quid maybe. Most would have probably taken that.

I got some good deals on spirits bought from amazon uk delivered to a collection point in newry. Not ideal for everyone but the savings were quite large and you get 16 days to collect them.

Minimum price 500ml 4.3% = 1.70
24 * 1.70 = 40.80
So if the cans are 440ml 3.6% and there is only 20 cans, price goes to 1.25 per can. Slab price at 25e. This is the way its going to work. Lower alcohol/lower size/smaller cases.
Sobering (no pun) sight at prices while walking through the Dunnes and Tesco off licenses this evening. Not a big drinker these days but still glad I stocked up before Christmas.
