Afternoon spin up the Louth coast from Drogheda to Port. Back via Sandpit.
That wind was chilly and very westerly. Very pleasant afternoon though. Missed any showers.
One dope woman in an A4 managed to close pass me twice and nearly wipe out a pedestrian. Stared straight ahead when I caught her in traffic. Never blinked
Wonderful pre-dawn cycle in Galway this morning.
A marvelous never ending headwind, lots of lovely perfectly shaped puddles on the road and meeting distracted drivers with full headlights on.
/sarcasm
40km at 22km/h avg.
Felt great on the trainer tonight.
Took on Climbers Gambit if any of you are familiar. 1.3km from the end I was ordered to finish my ride by the boss of the house, gutted as I was really enjoying it buy duty called. Think I would have finished just under 90 minutes had I have been able to continue. Held over 200w while climbing for about 30 minutes which shocked me. Delightful.
Looking forward to seeing how this transfers to real roads when I can.

Same experience as this last week. Older but very fit couple jay walked across the road and then eye-balled me and just walked out in front of me in the bike lane. I just stopped and didn't get involved but their body language suggested they thought they were in the right. The bike lane is a pain as it is a bollarded one and the road sweepers can't get at it so it's just covered in debris.
Chilly 22k with 400m of climbing over lunch up to Foxes and back via Cruagh. A bit of ice on pine forest road but not enough yet to cause concern quite yet. Time to chuck the ice tyres onto the spare wheels to have them available if things cool down any more. Lovely day out but pleased to be fully layered up for the downhill.
Just back from a 15km errand to pick up a parcel from the post office. I was supposed to head into the city centre to lodge a cheque but I forgot it so it was cut short!
I've noticed an increase in people not wanting to get out of the way on bike lanes. I've had a number of people walking towards me with no intention of getting out of the way. Today someone gestured ME to move over as we almost played chicken. Repeatedly painted bike markings don't give it away? Honestly...
Every time I decide to just cruise along in bike lanes rather than the road/bus lane I'm always reminded of why I hate them.
70km done this morning at 28.2kph with 442m climbing
Was lovely when it was a tail wind
Thanks. Was a fairly laid back spin with company so hopefully hopefully nothing to worry about. Muscles were sore from being dehydrated after the stomach bug. I've had a similar stomach bug before and felt the same after first spin back. But have a GP visit lined up anyway so will have a chat as you say. Hopefully the ticker is in good shape!
Appreciate the concern.
This chap is often 10% faster on his own.
Had covid myself last month and eased back into it with a few 5k runs
But everyone is affected differently by it
Not to scare the sh1te out of you, but I wouldn't be doing anything so strenuous after Covid.
I'm currently positive and would be able to cycle tomorrow, but I won't for a few days.
You will find plenty of information online but maybe have a chat with GP first.
Covid has been seen to have effects on lots of organs including the ticker.

New Years Day, had'nt been out for over a week so even though the wind was well up I headed out. Swords to Wimbletown then headed South all the way to the ATC tower, reversed my route for a blowy but highly enjoyable 70km.
First spin of the new year, Ballycanew to Gorey for meet up, back out to Ballycanew, Ballyedmund; Oulart , then across to Enniscorthy, Ferns, Camolin, Gorey , and back ti Ballycanew. Sttong enough SW wind today.
80km, 618 meters; avg 28kph.
40km with 900m of climbing today for the first spin of the year. Up to Glenasmole, Cunard Road and across to glencree, devils elbow and back via cruagh direction. Was a small bit damp but blowing strong enough that the featherbeds were a little sketchy when it was a cross wind
First and only spin of the Christmas period this morning. We had Covid in the house and we all got very upset stomachs with it so didn't eat for about three days and was very weak. Isolation period ended yesterday and got out first thing this morning. Muscles were sore and there was no power in the legs but met the brother and it was nice to get out on a dry if windy morning.
Nothing to report other than some oddball in hi-vis walking against the traffic in the hard shoulder of a main road. We had a tailwind and were approaching at pace but it was clear your man was going to hold the centre of the hard shoulder and force us out into the traffic instead of stepping aside for five seconds. We had no choice but to stop and let him past. He didn't look like a reasonable person so we said nothing and went on our way.
Overall, 82km with 850 climbing at 28.5kph. Muscles are sore and I'm bate now.
Guessing they're all down my neck of the woods. Lunch time spin up Cruagh, Foxes and back via Kilternan and the Enniskerry road was very busy with big tail backs at Marlay park. Not quite as blowy today thankfully, but still slow going for me. 23k with 400m climbing at just 19kph.
Did the opposite spin today but in the dry.
Julianstown, Stamullen, Balrothery, Man O War, Stamullen, Bellewstown and back down to the sea.
Stamullen to Bellewstown must be the handiest way up onto the hill. Even in today's fairly stiff headwind.
Enjoyed it more today in the dry and with company.
About 55k with 550m and an easy going 25kph
see the 'images of beauty' thread.
Pics of the Cinelli please 😁
Yeah, the rain earlier seemed to track across Kilkenny from the SW and didn't get any further north than south Dublin.
65 km round through killeter forest. Tough day in the wind and rain.
From Bray to Ashford and in as far as Roundwood
Check weather app 1 - dry and blowy. Check

Cycled out of estate. Pi*sed on almost immediately for an hour. Next time i'll just look out the window beforehand instead. Thoroughly enjoyable spin though as so few cars about. Kept it short as only getting over Covid (nothing more than cold-like for me thankfully). Well, that's my excuse for a lack of speed. Too much cake and beer might also just have contributed
Yep, doing the back to fitness one at the moment and I plan on working my way through the rest of them too.
Really enjoying it right now, I find it hard to get the time for longer ride in the best of times, never mind now.
Well done. Are you doing the 10-12 week plan? I did the full thing, starting at week 3 and just finished before Xmas.
Same yesterday.
Spun up Bellewstown. No cars about
the roads were actually eerily quiet this morning. it was great.
72km with 771m of climbing up around Rathnew, Rathdrum, Laragh, Roundwood and home. Last time I depend on the weather forecast app on the phone. Went out without anything waterproof. Rain came down very heavily around the hour mark for 30/40min and I remained very wet until I peeled off the layers at home. Very enjoyable all the same and not one single close pass or d**khead driver.
70k in east Kildare with my (obviously favourite) daughter.
Tosach maith, leath na hoibre.
Started tye new year yesterday with an FTP test, getting excused out of the way... I haven't slept properly in 3 weeks, I haven't had time for more than 30 minutes on my bike at a time and I had herself distracting me at the upper end of the ramp, which made me accidentally push about 40 extra watts while she was talking to me, leading to me to burn out early. Fun.
So, I'm following Zwifts workout plans while on new dad duty and I plan to do an FTP test on the first of every month to track progress.
Did 168 @ 92kg which is 1.82W/KG. I want to bring this right up and improve climbing, that's the plan for the year.
First spin this year for me, just 40k with 750m of climbing today taking in Berryfield lane, Killegar and Glencullen. Very blowy and a rather hairy descent coming down Cruagh road with heavy gusts in a squall. Been off the bike over Christmas and felt the full effects of festive overindulgence!
