The current Focus or Puma are nice looking cars. Far more desirable than previous Ford offerings.

It appears so but that does seem to happen from time to time. This makes me think that he probably doesn't book the reg but often happens to be first to log in on New Year's Day.
I thought they stopped selling the EcoSport last year.

Ah, it's a long standing event on boards. This gentleman gets a new car each New Year's day. More often than not its LS 1 though has missed out a few times. The New Year doesn't really start til this pic arrives 😂😂😂😂
Jaysis, you'd think the dealer would convince him to go for a Puma for resale value and ownership experience, rather than a bucket like the Ecosport
I'd imagine the height of the Ecosport probably suits this man. I think he's probably in his seventies so would probably find it easier to get into than a Puma.

Do most dealers have cars ready and handed over on the 1 January? Or do the majority wait to open until the following day(s) - this year being 4 January?

You've answered my own question, I too was confused (given I live in Laois) actually the Reg as a better look to it, 2nd LS reg in 2022 so to speak 😉
We used to hand over new cars the first day we were back open, if the cars were in the yard before January they'd be ready to go just fit the number plates. We'd never open just to hand over a new car on the 1st unless we were back open of course

I take it so that if you wanted a very low number (e.g. 221 Ls 1) you would need to pay the 1,000 for it to guarantee it or be friendly enough with the dealer that they are on straight away when the portal opens to try and get it.
So it's definitely 1k to reserve a reg. No. ? Pricey enough
Yeah, it went up to that around 2008, used to be less than €400
