A lot of the asylum seekers we get have the resources to get to /smuggle into Ireland. They are wealthier compared to the average inn their own countries, hence the complaints about DP. Their living standards were higher at home. The goal is to get onto the Irish welfare state, which provides a standard of living, with no work required, comparable to the upper middle classes in their own countries. The destitute farm laborers are not making it to ireland. They are stuck.
And eat free food from a plastic bag rather than starve.
The lads were caught faking the food in plastic bags story. They had their meals served properly then placed them in the plastic bags. Also remember the.morbidly obese ones claiming they were starving and the government should give them money to buy their own food. When in Africa i ate N'shima with a bit of mystery stew at my own expense. No spuds or roast beef
Well maybe they were starving because they were served normal portions.
Irish portions would likely be larger than you would get in other countries anyway. Considering the weather and culture, we have a habit of eating much more food than what's usually available elsewhere, especially in hotter climates.
I seriously doubt they were lacking in food being provided. I've seen what both the small middle class, and the lower income groups eat in Africa.. and it wouldn't be as good as what's commonly available in Ireland, especially in terms of nutrients/healthy food.
Besides.. they're in DP, and most aren't working... it's not as if they're needing to eat to compensate for working hard all day.
no, they claimed they were starving because the Irish food was not up to their standard, so weren't eating it , and demanding more money so they could buy their own ethnic food.
'Besides.. they're in DP, and most aren't working... it's not as if they're needing to eat to compensate for working hard all day.'
Good job we don't need food to survive🙄
Friend of mine was a chef in a DP centre in the early 2000s, she used to cook their own food for them and allow them to prepare their own.
Wasn't a big deal.
i think the big deal is were angling for increase in the cash allowance by being dishonest when recruiting the media/sympathy
/sigh.
I'm watching GB News now. It's really refreshing getting a different perspective on news stories.
The Waterford Sanctuary for Asylum Seekers website has a photo gallery. All the religious people in these photos are non-Catholic. My view is multiculturalism is great for the protestant churches here.
And in the "Stans" it was Rice, rice and more rice,,,rice with everything, loads of it. But in fairness, some of the nicest rice I have ever eaten was during the times I was in that part of the world. Maybe they are not providing enough rice in the Direct Provision Centre's ? And as a souvenir from Africa, after eating local food, I have an issue with my stomach which still requires treatment, years after the event.
Yes I met a Bulgarian who is a member of the Celtic association there . I never had time to get more details .
A friend or acquaintance for all occasions. 🙄
A relative of mine is a handyman for a DP centre, says all the women are aiming to get pregnant as it helps their case.
Over half had already succeeded
Sorry you don't have any friends J
Smell of “Confessions of a Handyman” off that nugget tbh 😂
Well in the not so distant past, before the loophole was closed, enough of them were not even waiting until they arrived to get pregnant they were arriving in the maternity hospital's just in time to deliver their babies. And it despite having a referendum to close that loophole, it seems that there are efforts to overturn the results.
There is still a strong bias towards helping people with children.. that's been seen well enough in the media. Rules will be "bent" to allow families to enter and stay.. where single or childless families might be turned away.
It makes perfect sense to establish a connection if you want to stay in Ireland, and having a child with an Irish person, would remain one of the best ways to do that, regardless of the referendum (which dealt more with simply having a child in Ireland and getting to stay because of it)
Its true, it does sound suspect but its true.
Happily married man as well 😂
TBH if they are getting pregnant with your man they deserve to stay.
But if they're getting it with their man, that's all they know to do anyway, but we the civilized world have a soft spot for pregnant women, even when the right thing to do will be to deport them immediately before they are to far in to travel.
Fair point jm but that was 15 years ago now, the babies born then would be teenagers now if not in their 20’s, as opposed to what @Luxembourgo s mate was suggesting - that all the women are getting pregnant in order to stay in the country. His impressions are well outdated.
Oh I didn’t think ‘twas him doing any ridin’ ‘tall. The way I read it was that all the fellas in DP were hooking up with all the women. I don’t doubt he told you that alright, I’ve heard the same sort of shìte many times myself.
The thing I always wonder is how do people like them square it with themselves that they’re seeing all this shìte going on apparently, but yet they’re still perfectly happy to maintain it as long as they’re getting paid at the end of the day themselves!
FWIW I’ve been in a few of these “DP centres”, and I wouldn’t house a dog in them, let alone a family with children. Your mate truly does sound like the type of person who looks down on the people in there, is critical of where his tax money is going, but is happy to support the system at the same time - once he gets paid he doesn’t REALLY give a fcuk.
British media reporting today that majority of child migrants are adult men.
Edit 2/3rds proven to be adults not 1/3 proven to be children.

very poor start to your assimilation. Fully grown men pretending to be children in order to garner sympathy and better treatment. I wonder how they dealt with them in foster care
Not at all, as hed say himself is none of his business. He gets on great with most of the residents, goes above and beyond for them and has a fantastic relationship with many of the longer term residents . It was an observation (one I added due to this "I used to know someone" from bubbly) . Besides having sex isn't illegal, nor is having a baby.
You seem very happy to jump to conclusions about people. Apologies I did say all, he did not, he did say large number, I stand corrected on that.
What has you in a few different dp centres?
Troublemaker perhaps? Serial complainer and constantly moved around perhaps? An inspector? A member of the clergy?
Saw photos before of 'child' migrants in classrooms in Sweden iirc. Sweet Jesus how anyone could put them down as under 25 beggared belief.
Another snout in asylum industry trough if I was a betting man! Now hands up anyone for more funding required!
It’s your mate is happy to jump to conclusions about others, I’d make the same point to anyone who comes out with the same sort of shìte. They don’t be long realising I’m not interested in their shìte talk, let alone would I bother repeating it or embellishing it just for shìts n giggles.
Voluntary work lads, relax, what you pay in tax doesn’t cover the bar bill in the Dáil, let alone fund the enormous waste of money that is Direct Provision.
You’d swear the way some people go on that anyone was taking the bit out of yer mouths.
