That article just seems like a bit of a joke, I doubt they actually tasted them an just went off prices and what they think the general view of them is.
They say this about Glens
About as bottom shelf as you can get without actually being on the ground.
The slogan written atop the cap makes bold claims of being 'THE EXCITING VODKA', presumably because anyone buying such hooch plans to drink it all in one sitting, leading to some wonderful memories, or lack thereof
While it came first in blind tasting done by some "experts"

Finally, we finish our marathon and tot up the marks. The scores are close, but we are unanimous in our top three. We open a large brown envelope which reveals the names behind the bottles. Third is Absolut, second is Russian Standard and first is, wait for it, Glen's. Glen's? A supermarket cheapy, distilled in Scotland from sugar beet.
"I don't believe it!" exclaims Wisniewski.
"Nor me," says Innes. "I've always struggled to see value at the top end of the vodka range, which this result vindicates. But I'm astonished."
We retaste it neat and agree that it's still our favourite, with nice spicy notes and a faint hint of citrus and ginger.
But I'm still not won over by vodka. If anything, I'm even more confused. Why spend £30 on Grey Goose or Belvedere, when I can spend a lot less than a tenner on Glen's? After all, I'm only going to slosh it in my Bloody Mary.
1st: Glen's (£8.69)
2nd: Russian Standard (£13.29)
3rd: Absolut (£14.99)
4th: Wyborowa (£15.99)
5th: Finlandia (£14.19)
Joint 6th: Smirnoff Red (£12.19);
Stolichnaya (£14.99);
Belvedere (£30)
9th: Grey Goose (£30.79)
10th: Smirnoff Black (£15.99)
Haven't drunk vodka since 1979!!
after a few bottes, will you really notice the different? 😂
Not great it would seem

The crafty beer is surprisingly good - there are several types in that box - I'm a particular fan of the Saison and both Pale Ales. As for the Belgian beer - I only ever get the 6 pack in there - it's very strong stuff and not to everyone's liking.
Leffe, delicious and strong
It can be when at normal price across the board. I previously would go between the 3 of them depending on what I need to stock up on as each would have specials unique to themselves. Asda is a pain from Dublin, there's a branch in Kilkeel but it's small and southern plates may stand out like confederate flags to the locals in the place

Isn't Asda the best supermarket price wise and offers on beers, lagers, ciders etc? Sainsbury's is a bit dearer across the board no?!
If I remember correctly, Sainsburys Newry had the biggest sales of booze out of any Sainsbury store in the UK at one stage (mostly ROI customers I'd say 😀).
That's great to know given MUP is on the horizon. Thanks
I have to say, the Newry Sainsburys drinks section is waaaay better than Lisburn. Much bigger area, much bigger range of wines & beers, & they seen to be constantly restocking also. Last time I was in Lisburn I vowed never to go again as they were out of stock on the one or 2 wines I wanted to get. I stopped in Newry on the way back & they had plenty. I wouldn't waste time going to Lisburn tbh.
I picked up a few bottles of the Shiraz... will use for cooking if not up to much. They actually scanned at €2 !
Tesco
