Well its more interesting than the stories. I mean keeping marketing info like others and a Christmas card :)
Most of the electorate live in the present. I doubt history was why we saw a shift to SF.
With three paragraphs from/about the article and part of one addressing your pal's tendency to overstate anything about SF undermining legitimate concerns, I'd say you could do with a bit of work on your maths if you think that I've spent more time, 'attacking' the poster than the post. I think my post addresses the content of Blanch's post rather than any personal aspersions about him/her but if you disagree, feel free to use the report function. I stand by my assertion that when any story like this breaks, rather than a level-headed analysis and criticism, Blanch resorts to hyperbole and overstatement and I fully believe it undermines legitimate criticism. The post I replied to was a perfect example; implying that because the article highlighted that SF were the only party with a bespoke database that they were the only party who had run afoul of the DPC, when the article clearly demonstrated that wasn't the case and that FG/FG/Greens all had their own issues highlighted and recommendations issued.
As for the requirement for SF to correctly inform people that they're storing their data and the right to removal, GOOD! I'm 100% in favour. I don't know why you're throwing this at me as some sort of body blow when I fully support the correct implementation of GDPR regulations. I welcome the recommendations made to all the parties, and the efforts to protect my personal data from the DPC.
Considering it has been national news, I don't think there's much exposure inherent in adding it to their election material; people already know about the database now. As for contacting 210,000 people for permission; well depending on what information they have stored, that really may not be quite as difficult as you think. The bigger blow will be the need to anonymise the data of anyone who doesn't give explicit consent. There will still be value in the anonymised data, though certainly not as much as their wrongfully obtained personal data.
If they DO shut it down? Great, as I said I was uncomfortable with the idea anyway; I highlighted that their database wasn't inherently illegal and they COULD keep it if they wished (implying that it wasn't as murky and menacing as yourself and Blanch were suggesting last time around), not that I was somehow an explicit supporter of it. Given the data-driven nature of the world now, I'd be incredibly surprised if they did so though. If they're the only party with a bespoke database, it would imply to me that they're ahead of the pack when it comes to analytics....a concerning thought for the rabidly anti-SF, and likely too big an advantage to sacrifice for the sake of a small font disclaimer message that everyone already knows about on the bottom of a pamphlet or website etc.
The Indo is a fantastic help to them, why would they want it to stop?
Outrage and blaming the media will only get them so far. If they think they are getting a rough ride now, god help them when/if they get into power. It is going to be very very toxic.
SF are riding Indo outrage in to Govt.
Would SF be polling as high without the Indo, unlikely.
Ah, that is a good one.
Tell us, is there ANY story the Indo can run which in your eyes is fair game when it comes to SF?
Because the usual crew were out yesterday, going on about the biased media at every turn when it came to a few stories about SF..
We hear that a lot, anytime SF get caught doing something they shouldn't be doing, it goes very Trumpian all of a sudden.
Seems to me your concerns ring hollow as you spend more time attacking the poster rather than the post.
At the end of the day, SF has been found with their hands in the sweet jar. Sure, they can keep their ABU database, but at a huge cost. They will need to say on ALL their election material that they possess such a database and will have to contact all the people in the database that their names are on there, that is about 210,000 people... which is no mean feat.
If your name is one there, you have a right to ask SF to remove it.
So, are SF going to expose themselves to such an enormous task, or just shut the whole thing down?
There is a very clear turning away from the past Republican movement in Dublin SF.
Mark Ward mad for the expenses during lockdown.

The special criminal court showed its value today.
good to see my local TD SF Violet Anne Wynne calling this out on social media. Not before time too.
It was gas when she made an arse of Mr. 'Sinn Fein don't like white people' when he claimed there were no protestants in SF.
Would you ask her while she's at it whether she has been vaccinated.
Should be banned.....and a serious root & branch review of all allowed expenses....they getting paid more than enough to afford a few stamps and envelobes.....any/all politians found to been abusing this system for personal usage should be forced to resign/have pay cut to the AIW
Good lad ….criticise SF…. It’s petty gutter journalism.
Jaysus !!
You could get thread banned for using my personal photo.
There's a tradition of TD's using tax payer money to send cards and calendars, (advertisements) to people. It should be stopped and the culprits made refund.
Great to have such a wise contributor to the discussion...
Tbh id more peeved about politians abusing public office and the expenses system.......fairly simple solution to your problem here, dont have any messing allowed by politians and fcuk em out and make em earn re-election,if they do
Nothing will ever change here otherwise
The indo, in Mr Anti SF angry mode today. Regrettable that they don’t have the same energy on other issues like the homelessness crisis, the rising cost of living, holding vulture funds to account, our underdeveloped health service, the Siteserv, NBP and childrens hospital controversies plus much more.
The Indo resorting to petty SF attacks will do nothing but lose more readers. Defending FG at all costs while they are struggling in the polls might seem a “great idea” to those right wing journo hacks, but the reality couldn’t be more different.
And if anyone thinks that FG are not aware to this gutter low style of Indo journalism, then imo they are truly mistaken!
I would be pretty pissed if the tax payer had to fund a by-election over a Christmas card.
Not defending or claiming it cancelled it out. The critics are hypocritical is my point.
Bang on....if you want to be the best and achieve all you want, you have to demand the best of those around you
Let ffg play the game of blaming everyone else for their mistakes, the lad done wrong, simple as....either pay back monatory amount in multiples of what he done here,or resign
Fairly small beans stuff, but in saying that, 'but FF/FG did it too' isn't much of a defensive argument when made by those who argue that SF represent some sort of change from the same old corruption and cronyism.
Nobody ever claimed he did say that, thats the lie. You are now complicit because you know that. Quote it? He failed to do so. Sure come back after Christmas and claim MLMD wanted to open all the pubs. Habit of rehashing lies some of you have.
Easy solution here is for.this lad to resign and regain a political approval of his electorate....and force ffg into a by-election and use it to beta-test the accuracy of internal polling and reform/adjust it to better enable vote management for future elections.....consantrate heavily upon which boxes are strong/weak for em
Use every oppurtunity and controversy to hone its internal mechanisms with an eye onto the next general election
Jaysus they really are desperate.
Didn't we have the civil war parties sending out reams and one on the hook only a few months ago?
So you can't remember. I can understand that. Its like a code.
