You're taking other peoples differing opinions very personally and creating imaginary boogey men. I hope for your sake it's just internet bravado
A lot of us just want better transport infrastructure and to not have to spend our lives sitting in traffic or risking our lives walking and cycling. I haven't seen anything to suggest this road will help with that. The environmental damage is just the extra kicker on what a bad plan it is.
Tell us more about this conspiracy theory " so their bike shops " ???
The number of bike shops and the local family's who have run them in Galway City has not changed all that much the last 30yr or so I have been about the town.
It's not a bypass
Any examples of all the projects being held up by bike lanes?
That was a brilliant decision by Apple, almost encouraged me to by something of theirs
Eh lol
Your going to have to provide something to back that up
This sad old chestnut - do you also remember how VW/VAG lied about their emissions?
Just to clarify, I don't actually object to the M20, I think it is needed
As for the article you listed, it doesn't support your claim about bike lanes blocking its development
Theres nothing about bike lanes or the green party holding up the M20.
Our slow planning system is holding it up, and some citizen groups who live near the route, but afaik no party are stalling it.
I would never vote for the greens either, but its clear you have a massive chip on your shoulder wrt the green party.
No, you seem to be confused. I asked for examples of bike lanes blocking infrastructure projects. You just linked articles about the Cork to Limerick motorway being held up, nowt to do with bike lanes there I'm afraid. Remember, you stated that bike lanes are blocking road projects. Just a few examples would be great, even one would do I suppose.
"I will also now complain and object to bike lanes as these are being used to hold up all infrastructure building in this country"
Bike lanes ARE infrastructure.
Dont forget to link to the road projects held up by the demonic bike lanes.
Well now I think you're just taking the piss. Equating the construction of high speed rail networks between cities of millions with a road to nowhere that isn't going to help traffic congestion. The only "whataboutery" is from yourself. The only person that keeps trying to make it about the environment is yourself.
If this was China they'd have just force migrated everyone west of the Corrib to the midlands and made all of us in the city use public transport.
Which Greens have bike shops that sell overpriced Chinese bikes please?
Ah now, if he can't find a link for the bike lane/road thing he's never gonna find that one.
I don't think this is a good Idea...
Is this cycle land for transport or leisure?
If it is transport (i.e. reduce traffic) then DR Mannix Rd is far more suitable. It is sheltered and links up the schools. One of the major challanges to cycling in galway is how exposed we are to the elements especially wind.
Also why does the one way system need To out past blackrock? Residents on that road pushed Brooklawn to get home that going to cause carnage and be dangerous for a cycle lane that won't be used in bad weather.
It also means that the Garda in Salthill will be going through residential areas to answer calls in Knocknacarra.
Why can't it be both
I agree, a full network of protected bike lanes is indeed needed from Salthill, to Dangan, to Castlegar to Roscam
People cycle in bad weather all the time and to use the old adage, there's no bad weather, only the wrong clothes.
Regarding the oneway portions, has there been info released yet? I know they are starting the consultation before Xmas and will include the plans, but I haven't seen any plans released yet.
From what I understand it'll be one-way for general traffic between Barna Road and Blackrock. Outbound towards Barna will be via Threadneedle and left down Kingston Road.
There is an option for one-way on the prom too but that looks unlikely. The most likely option is maintaining two-way traffic on the prom (Blackrock to Grattan Beach) with some loss of on-street parking.
I think the consultation will open early January (according to discussion on GBFM), it'll be a lively discussion. Hopefully the plans are tweaked from the feedback and suggestions.
"From what I understand it'll be one-way for general traffic between Barna Road and Blackrock. Outbound towards Barna will be via Threadneedle and left down Kingston Road."
Where did you get that information, out of curiosity?
It was discussed on Keith Finnegan during the week and a few councillors have also been tweeting about the proposals.
You have to laugh at the greens. They're saying the ring road will be a climate disaster. But sure aren't we all going to be driving the wonderfully clean electric cars they're pushing on us by the time it's completed?
If there is two way traffic on the prom, this means parking on the prom will be removed. The residents will be up in arms in a week... What happens is people park there cars up Rockbarton and other residential areas...
I still don't know what this cycle lane is supposed to solve... If it is to move people from cars to bikes during peak times then why not use Dr Mannix Road?
It is more sheltered, closer to schools, less traffic...
Tell us more about these wonderfully clean cars;
The solution doesn't involve more cars. Replacing one type of car with a slightly less polluting type of car isn't the solution.
Send that link to the greens and then maybe they'll stop forcing 50k EVs upon us.
Define 'forcing' please?
The solutions is less cars (or less miles per car)
A denser more efficient form of transport (mass transit) is needed, for urban areas at least. It really is mad to think of it that most of knocknacarra will drive to work in the city/parkmore. Not their fault mind, the transport options besides driving are sh*te
Or people might start using other modes of transport to get to the Prom? A two way cycle lane on the Prom side is pretty common visitor amenity for many Promenades in Europe(UK) Will increase the road capacity as well. The no of vehicle movements on a 2 way cycle lane is about 3-4* same regular traffic lane
Dr Mannix Road is already been used; but definitively something needs to be done at the junction of Threadneedle/Salthill Road Lower when traffic stacking occurs and provide better access to Lenaboy Park
It's not supposed to solve anything. Its sole purpose is to pander to the vocal minority of green cycling fanatics; nothing more, nothing less.
Is this them?
Ah yes, a photo of a well organised demonstration that's taken place once or twice a month for approximately an hour. One has to admire their campaigning and propagandising to be fair.
