It's all they've got.
Former IRA folk are former IRA folk. Some are in SF.
Common knowledge. Nobody cares.
I thought the sketch was out of order but with wins thin on the ground I'm surprised it doesn't have its own thread.
And it ain’t Mary Lou or Michelle, Bee.
ML gone to ground since the issue arose and O’Neill also quite anxious to draw a line under the issue.
O’Reilly, CArthy, and the ‘up the Ra’ lad very quick to throw poor Eoin under the bus.
Hmmmmm …
Is he the 'nailing Catholics' lad?
I can see why some of the regulars have the knives out for Mick Fealty.
He gets to the heart of the issues with some straight talking.
The whole incident serves as a good reminder as to who actually is in charge of Sinn Fein.
I have never Eoin OBroin so ill at ease than on some political show the other night.
The female presenter and a chubby lad from the Govt, grilling him on Gerry’s vid.
Eoin obviously had a new one ripped out for him from Connolly House and was now drawing back on his ‘apology, stance.
Very very anxious to “draw a line” under the whole disaster for SF.
For a party who were so ‘upset’ by issues for other parties, the Shinners were remarkably accepting of Gerry’s activity.
Felt a bit sorry for poor Eoin, should have ‘cleared things’ with the Council before opening his mouth.
Just shows you who actually runs the show for this lot.
You mean there's a party whip? Do you think they might close down his branch? Sinister.
My guess is you'll be extremely hard pressed to find anyone in the South, debating on voting SF in the next election that might be "put off" doing so based on Adams satire sketch (for a charity), or indeed that of the "murky past" of the troubles.
Yes of course, some posters in here might be "offended" by it, but they're (including yourself I guess) the type that were never going to vote SF anyway.
The MSM (and those within FFG) should definitely run with a "let's use the troubles of the north" campaign at trying to dissuade potential voters from leaving them "en masse" in favour of SF, because let's be honest it worked magnificently in the last two previous general elections.
It's ancient history to the younger generation. They're "at nothing" trying to stick with a proven flawed strategy.
Self-made blunder
What is Fine Gael’s message beyond criticising Sinn Féin? And why do they keep at it when it’s not working? Almost every attack tweet gets ratioed. Every video gets slagged to bits. This strategy failed before the 2020 election, it failed during the campaign, and it’s failing now.
If anything, it’s driving more and more younger people towards Sinn Féin, the same generation who became politicised through bipartisan grassroots activism, imbued with an understanding of the importance of building alliances, civility, reaching the middle ground, and leading with empathy.
I don't know if it's arrogance or stupidity that makes FG stick with the strategy, but it's in full throttle reverse to what it's intended to do.
The Adams video is a side-show distraction but what it shows is the partition in perceptions between north and south. In the ROI (not a term SF is likely to use) the electorate is reminded of SF's murky recent past and ambiguous present, in the north it's just Gerry hav'n a wee joke.
You are putting far too much emphasis on what my views might be on "Gerry Adams" views of the world blanch152. All I am doing is highlighting the shameless hypocrisy within your posts.
You are trying to highlight what you perceive to be "disgusting comments" by one side, and asking hypothetical questions on how posters may feel if the "other side" were doing something similar.
Next thing you know, similar comments appear from the "side" you habitually use, and link to as a source to bolster your own views. Obviously had you not have taken such a lofty position on your moral ground, you wouldn't have fallen so ungraciously from it.
As I say, hoisted by one's own petard.
All the boxes ticked there, one would suggest.
Only thing missing probably was ‘quislings’….. it of a slip up there.
Good start though, good start.
Did I say anything wrong or is it a case that you don't like what I said?
If you believe I said something wrong, then I am more than happy to furnish you with posts to back up my assertions.
If it's simply a case of you not liking what I wrote and doing your usual running away tactic, then I am afraid, that's a simple case of "tough tittie" I feel.
If it was Friday night and I had a few beers in me, there might be a risk of me overreacting to your baiting and taunting. As it is, it just makes me laugh at the attempt.
The Spectator are well known for their unbiased look at Irish politics.
Show us the "something"?
Would you believe that Blanch has only discovered Slugger in the last year. Myself and @FrancieBrady must take some blame for putting him onto it.
You weren't around for the Ballymurphy thread. You should seek it out and see how Blanch his ilk reacted
There is certainly something to the rumour that O'Broin is being disowned. The Boys in Belfast calling the shots again.
Yawn, not bothered by the contortions you are putting yourself through in order to try and discredit an anonymous internet poster.
If you think "nailing Catholics" is sickening in the context in which it was used, you must be looking for Gerry to be jailed for his various pronouncements and videos.
Oh dear Brendan Bendar is regurgitating rumours again. Hopefully this one will have more substance behind it than the Carthy v Harris one.
Hoisted by your own petard blanch152, and let's not go through the silly charade where you pretend that had that (let's be frank, it's a disgusting comment he made) you would suggest there's nothing wrong with the sickening description of "nailing catholics".
The poster is obviously correct, you have a myriad of posts linking to the Slugger O'Toole website, because it obviously draws you towards it.
Whether that be the numerous articles where it propagates articles that would appear to be written to appeal to belligerent unionists and partitionists, or If you're attracted to the shall we say "colourful views" and opinions of its editor, who knows.
The finest team of satirical comedy writers in the land could not have come up with the sketch you got yourself into this evening with that one. It was like watching a bulldog chase a parked car in slow motion.
I think Adams was out of order. Disrespectful to those who died on all sides. Cheesy too.
Can't see O'Brion resigning over it. Up to Adams to apologise or not.
Are you saying this because O'Broin did what you didn't expect when he asked Gerry to apologise.
No harm O'Broin being put back in his box. Is it a resigning issue? Of course not.
hope that rumour ages better than the last one bendar lol 🤣
appears you got the bad report 😂
Strong rumours of a split in SF, apparently it’s said O’Broin about to leave.
At the moment pure rumour but it appears something’s stirring.
Came from a usually “ in the know” source…….
from lowlife Twitterati with Ivory Coast flags, utterly despicable.
A few points; while he condones anonymous twitter accounts do you have any proof to back your assertion he's 'lowlife twitterati'. He tweets some nonsense, ill give you that but to be fair to him both flags are similar and would be tiny as emojis.
Also I think the man is under enough pressure with the criminal investigation and this isn't a FG thread. Give the man a break.
Another opinion on the great Gerry.
If you want an eye-opener to the cesspit of Twitter, just go on the feeds of Ann Travers and Austin Stack and look at the replies to them from lowlife Twitterati with Ivory Coast flags, utterly despicable.
To be honest, as his own reply stated, it is not as offensive as their actual murder though, and remember his point - the PIRA killed more Catholics than any other group.
And certainly nowhere near as offensive as a man who has been accused of ordering many of those killings then making a "comedy" video mocking the victims.
Get up out of it! You have a long and chequered history here of throwing out knowingly false and soft "sectarian" accusations.
Shoes on the other foot now blanchey, imagine the sheer dramatics out of you if that was some republican figurehead using similar language to describe prods.
Arse just fell out of your credibility pal.
