Connolly House were burning the midnight oil, it’s been said.
Fail to see the outrage here. Adams just did a political comedy skit, the exact same sort of political skit that the likes of Oliver Callan does on RTE every week, using the exact same sort of satirical and hyperbolic traits. If Oliver Callan did the exact same skit for RTE radio, which he has frequently done, the likes of this mornings outraged Claire Byrne would have the thing played on her show as some sort of hilarious advert for Callan's show.
It wasn't Callan though. Imagine Boris doing a funny sketch about Bloody Sunday or internment, that is the level of what Gerry did. In fact, it is worse, because Boris had no direct involvement in those events.
Callan does this exact same sort of ridiculous $hit every weekend concerning Sinn Fein. He constantly uses their slogans and their past in the violent conflict as a tool of satirical comedy. And when he does, nobody gives a $hit. It has become normalised due to this. Adams is just copying what the RTE radio editors sanction every weekend.
I assume when you talk about "Boris" you are talking about the current UK Prime Minister Johnson? I don't have to imagine any funny sketch concerning that lad, I just look for current British news and literally witness it.
Also, the last time I looked at the current and History books, Adams is not and never was the Taoiseach, so your comparison with Johnson is not comparable whatsoever. Adams is retired, is in no position of authority, unlike RTE, who are the state's national broadcaster. So the next time you hear the same sort of lame sketch puddled out on their airwaves, direct your outrage there. Because that's what this is about right? Making fun of the past conflict?
ah jaysis ?? last time you were trying to suggest you had heard rumours and had an ear to the ground , it didnt exactly go well .....
matt carthy maybe did get in serious trouble though , and maybe harris actually made a complaint bout him , and it was kept hush hush , but I wouldnt think so lololol 🤣
you never learn lolol
So two people in the same party having diffetent opinions on something is what now? That's democracy for ya.
Pray, explain.
I've a list of facts here on how building is cheaper than buying and leasing.
So if we stopped buying and leasing so much and built, we'd save money.
Nothing to do with Adams having been Taoiseach, all to do with his support for terrorism.
Adams was a disgrace making that video, but I suppose what's new about that? The man has no empathy for victims.
I reckon SF will campaign in the next general election as an independent party.
Blanch I gave a bit of a lecture (as my kids would say) yesterday on here about this habit yourself and others have with selfishly using victims, and trying to capitalise on their misfortunes for what you may (wrongfully in my eyes) perceive to be a tool to dissuade potential voters away from possibly voting for Sinn Fein.
Might I suggest that apart from yourself, and a few others in this vacuum of an echo chamber won't be giving the IRA of Gerry Adams a second thought when it comes to the election. You are trying to preach to the already converted, which is a thankless and entirely pointless task (but whatever makes you happy I suppose)
For the record, I've seen the video of Adams, and I don't get the big deal.
Yes, you gave a lecture all right, but that doesn't mean there was any sense in it.
Highlighting victims and the way they were treated is not selfishly using victims. I promote what the victims are saying.
Putting your hands over your ears, humming nonsense, and hoping they will go away is not a dignified way to respond to them.
"They brazenly beatify Provisional IRA members who murdered civilians, and their representatives openly chant “Up the RA”, rubbing salt into the wounds of those maimed and bereaved by the IRA. Yet, Sinn Féin claim unionists would be respected in their “new Ireland”. How could any unionist believe that?"
Couldn't have put it better myself and Adams' video is only the latest example.
"For all that divides them, the DUP and Sinn Féin are united by intransigence. Both have abandoned any pretence of wanting a shared society. Both represent nothing but their own insular ideologies. And both are undermining themselves and their objectives through successive own goals."
The two sides of the same ugly coin.
That FG voter probably got the inspiration from me.
Let's not indeed.
Lol.
I missed your concern, and input to other victims of the troubles Blanch.
Did you offer any stellar contributions or thoughts on the Miami Showband victims, or the recent thread about the Sinn Fein councillor that was murdered?
You're using victims to point score in your political crusade. I'd say you might have convinced those in the thread who already would never give the shiner's a vote, but doubtful you persuaded anyone else. The perfect example of an echo chamber.
The demographic is changing and the civil war party loyal voters are dying out, each new day they're replaced with a new, much more optimistic and nuanced one. That's why FF and FGs days are numbered.
You know it, I know it too.
For those who don't get the big deal of the video of Adams, here is an article that spells it out
"A classy piece of work for the thousands of families still missing loved ones murdered in 30 years of what we euphemistically call “the Troubles”.
And a real gee-up for the hundreds of people still suffering pain and incapacity from being maimed in various forays by “our brave IRA freedom fighters” who Gerry allegedly never joined – but never failed to publicly support."
It is when you ignore the victims that don't fit into your agenda.
And here you are, ignoring the victims of the PIRA, if it was a unionist making a video like that, you would be screaming about it.
You quoting a fair minded unbiased observer's opinion piece as some form of validation? :)
I posted here yesterday that I agree with you. I also posted that Adams should step down from all positions as a public representative.
But as I say, ignore what doesn't suit your agenda.
Ha! This posts a laugh 🤣 claiming people might take offence to a polar view/biased opinion.
Links up above to Slugger OToole.
Seen the editor being called out on another thread. Seems like a lovely fella blanchey, I can see why you're so fond of echoing his "neutral and unbiased" opinion..
"Nailing Catholics"
Fealty, the rag he edits and you, have absolutely zero credibility pal.
Yawn, whatever. The guy has a very successful set-up, but anyone that doesn't follow the Provo line always gets a hit around here.
Apologise for what?
Saying Tiocfaidh ar lá? Our day will come? A United Ireland is coming one day, there's no doubt about that.
Also, it was a comedy sketch for charity at the end of the day.
Get up out of it! You have a long and chequered history here of throwing out knowingly false and soft "sectarian" accusations.
Shoes on the other foot now blanchey, imagine the sheer dramatics out of you if that was some republican figurehead using similar language to describe prods.
Arse just fell out of your credibility pal.
To be honest, as his own reply stated, it is not as offensive as their actual murder though, and remember his point - the PIRA killed more Catholics than any other group.
And certainly nowhere near as offensive as a man who has been accused of ordering many of those killings then making a "comedy" video mocking the victims.
Another opinion on the great Gerry.
If you want an eye-opener to the cesspit of Twitter, just go on the feeds of Ann Travers and Austin Stack and look at the replies to them from lowlife Twitterati with Ivory Coast flags, utterly despicable.
from lowlife Twitterati with Ivory Coast flags, utterly despicable.
A few points; while he condones anonymous twitter accounts do you have any proof to back your assertion he's 'lowlife twitterati'. He tweets some nonsense, ill give you that but to be fair to him both flags are similar and would be tiny as emojis.
Also I think the man is under enough pressure with the criminal investigation and this isn't a FG thread. Give the man a break.
Strong rumours of a split in SF, apparently it’s said O’Broin about to leave.
At the moment pure rumour but it appears something’s stirring.
Came from a usually “ in the know” source…….
hope that rumour ages better than the last one bendar lol 🤣
appears you got the bad report 😂
